29/7/2018 12:53 | If there is another producer stealing a March with the likes of continental or mclaren I'd love to know who. Nanene is the premier product, maybe others are simply cheaper and the trade off isn't worth it in more simple applications like tyres. Then again, we mught get a nice surprise this week ;) | sonsonnyjim
29/7/2018 12:50 | It seems reasonable to assume Continental were working with another Graphene supplier and seeing some benefits. For example multi layer Graphene would still be a good heat conductor. They then appear to have started testing Nanene. In properties such as strength Nanene would be expected to out perform 'inferior ' Graphene. As Continental has been working with Graphene for a while it is entirely possible that they could at relatively short notice substitute Nanene for others Graphene due to improved performance. | serratia
29/7/2018 12:24 | This is the only fact relating to them getting Nanene from VRS in April this year. "Versarien will initially be providing 500g of Nanene for testing purposes, to explore the benefits of adding graphene to tyres supplied to the automotive sector. If successful, further orders would be expected." Nothing at all to do with commercial tyre applications no more to say on it. | luckyorange
29/7/2018 12:11 | My previous post to yours was purely factual, not opinion i.e. not 'spiking' up (hence me quoting the links). Previous posts where I have voiced my opinion have stated 'IMO'. | spike_1
29/7/2018 12:08 | Re-visiting the VRS presentation of July 2018 pdf. The opportunities in China screen - absolutely blown away by the scale of the opportunity. For those who have not seen it - total interest 24 (at the moment)- creating 17 proposals of which 13 are joint ventures and 4 sources of research interest from nine regions (not including the state). In a more positive market environment just where would our share price be? | anotherdrink
29/7/2018 12:02 | Please stop winding it up Spike, they didn't have any significant amount and I wouldn't want new investors being 'spiked' on the sp, it is for automotive and at a guess specifically for EV's which will have a knock on effect for ordinary automotive I would guess. | luckyorange
29/7/2018 11:56 | Curtain: yes very pertinent: Tweet: 15 Aug 17 visiting Continental Tyres 'wish me luck' Exactly ten days later in 2017 pod saying "only last week we were at a major global tyre manufacturer R & D centre .....in almost all their products" etc worth listening (courtesy Curtaon T) but from 8:30 where he appears - IMO - to tell us exactly what could just beginning to happen now. Continental: "Our centre of our engineering experience can be found in Hanover, Germany." | spike_1
29/7/2018 11:55 | Spike, re iso, lets hope it's august. But we do know VRS is supplying nanene for testing regarding the accreditation process of 'verified producer' status of the US NGA. Which appears to be on a selective quality basis; Upon confirmation of what membership means in terms of the standards applied, and if we pass ; in the absence of worldwide ISO accreditation, my view is VRS could be viewed as the de facto world lead at that point. Time will tell. Aimo. Best ellis | ellissj
29/7/2018 11:53 | Been running tests for the last year? They haven't had Nanene that long so it's a case of wait and see! There are so many tyre applications that it can be used for but the sample was for automotive testing in April this year, nothing to do with port tyres.... just keeping it honest. Versarien PLC 16 April 2018 16 April 2018 Versarien plc ("Versarien" or the "Company") Graphene Supply to Major Tyre Producer Versarien plc (AIM: VRS), the advanced materials engineering group, is pleased to announce that it has secured a purchase order for the Company's proprietary Nanene few layer graphene nano-platelets from a leading tyre producer, based in Europe. This relationship has been cultivated via OQEMA plc, formerly Lansdowne Chemicals Limited, with whom the Company has a distribution agreement, as announced on 16 February 2017. Versarien will initially be providing 500g of Nanene for testing purposes, to explore the benefits of adding graphene to tyres supplied to the automotive sector. If successful, further orders would be expected. Robert Moss, Group Managing Director of OQEMA UK, commented: "OQEMA UK is delighted to announce our first commercial transaction with Versarien for graphene. "This innovative material has caught the imagination of a wide variety of sectors, who see the fantastic potential in 2-dimensional materials. Without doubt, companies like Versarien are leading the way in creating the materials of the future. OQEMA is committed to partnering with innovation sources to bring these materials to wider markets as we embrace modernisation. "Graphene's numerous benefits have almost limitless potential. New and exciting applications are being discovered on a daily basis which can only yield an exciting future for companies such as OQEMA and Versarien who are willing to put themselves at the forefront of technical advancement." Commenting, Neill Ricketts, CEO of Versarien stated: "We are delighted to have secured this initial contract to supply Nanene to a leading producer of tyres. We look forward to working with them to explore the benefits that graphene can bring to their products. "Our relationship with OQEMA is expected to bring us further exciting opportunities and we are very pleased to have the support of such a significant player in the global distribution arena." | luckyorange

29/7/2018 11:28 | Continental Port Tyres A new compound has been developed for Continental tyres that will see use in harbourside applications. Continental calls this compound Port Plus, and reports that it reduces tyre heat generation, minimises wear and extends tyre life significantly. The Port Plus compound will premiere at TOC Europe in Rotterdam next month. “We have been running tests at our customers over the last year and have seen cases where the tyre life was even doubled”, says Julian Alexander, Product Line Manager Material Handling at Continental CST. | spike_1
29/7/2018 11:24 | This article from 2010 has all the right ideas, just lacking the new 2D material coming on stream now. There's aerogels in there, now with graphene, solar charging glass etc. Everything in the article can likely be improved with 2D materials that potentially are disruptive versus conventional on offer now. Of course, timescales are a variable factor here, but to my mind, if the need is pressing enough and the gains from 2D materials are too big to ignore, early adoption could follow than traditionally thought of. All to play for here ! Aimo. Dyor. Best ellis | ellissj
29/7/2018 11:10 | Lucky: re your: no date on the powerpoint that I can see and no hexagonal structure on the carbon so no Nanene, however if there was a hexagonal structure then it would give the game away somewhat. I did think that Nanene would replace carbon black? Actually - if you look VERY carefully there IS a date on the brochure (powerpoint), and interestingly it is 12th June 2018 (final page bottom right printed vertically ;0). And the lack of hexagonal structure in the advertising graphic is simply that. Incidentally the graphic shows small 'chains' of what looks like coal, and - as happens - they are hexagonal in shape, albeit not platelets. Also graphene can't replace carbon black (28% of a tires weight), but - when added to the CB - it can do exactly what the 'special carbon black' says it can. Best wishes - spike | spike_1
29/7/2018 11:09 | I find it useful re listening to these podcasts as I learn more about the company and progress is made ... a) you can connect more dots b) credibility grows as what they say months or a year ago starts to come true. | mikebrenner

29/7/2018 10:33 | Re port tyres: if not +nanene; logic suggests if continental have been impressed by results of likely non iso compliant graphite enough to produce; it shouldn't be long before likely iso compliant +nanene goes into production with them. Given test results versus conventional gave a 150% improvement (via superg/NR). And if +nanene; let the party begin ! Aimo. Best ellis | ellissj |
