26/7/2018 07:49 | With the 3 tonne capacity you do need to turn it on its head a little. When VRS were producing grams it was for samples, kilos were for testing in various guises and now tonnes is a different story. If you were a company that had tested it and everything was fine but you couldn't get quantity to meet your needs in the timespan that you require it then it would all be inconsistent. Now VRS can meet say a 50 kilo order on an ongoing basis which if you were planning a production run at various intervals is absolutely vital to the smooth running of a factory. It will give the bigger customers confidence in the supply. | ![]() luckyorange
26/7/2018 07:48 | Tini - would have thought Continental would need more than 3T? But maybe that's just to start, and wtfdik anyway? ;-) | club sandwich

26/7/2018 07:38 | Matt has been seconded to bring prosperity to the Uk have we yet heard how this will happen ? Im probably naive but surely its shareholders who benefit from the outcome of collaborations ..China etc .. can anyone explain to me how he might achieve his agenda... is there something that we still have no idea about ? | ![]() hattie1
26/7/2018 07:38 | if vrs had come out with news that they were scaling up to 1 tonne we would have all been excited as no one was expecting it. but 3 tonnes..... "We have continued to invest in our graphene manufacturing capability to support collaborative application agreements and have also ordered additional equipment that will see our graphene capacity reach a maximum of almost 3 tonnes. Shareholders will be aware that we take a prudent view on capital commitments and scale-up as and when demand dictates we do so. Our European equipment supplier is aware that market-take up will require either significant quantities of standard equipment or custom designed equipment and we intend to enter into a collaboration with them at the earliest opportunity." | ![]() jointer13

26/7/2018 07:25 | VRS aren't promising a china deal. There is serious interest from 24, maybe 25 now, parties out there. If the terms are right, we will deal, simple as. As for collabs, to many firms, the public and 'the city' 2D is simply science fiction. Until the unknown is know, waryness will prevail, and the pace of change reflects this. To my mind, Tests results will change the game, as will'verified producer' status. Meantime, We are all waiting for the dam to burst. Aimo. Dyor. Best ellis. | ![]() ellissj

26/7/2018 07:23 | Graphene-based Solid Lubricant as a Replacement for Oil. "For years, researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Argonne National Laboratory have been trying to develop a solid lubricant that could eventually replace oil. Through its Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) Program, scientists were given the resources to study the properties of graphene as a solid lubricant. Graphene gives off a slippery texture, which makes it an excellent lubricant and is why it is a good material for pencil lead—it easily drags across paper. Graphene can be used to protect ball bearings from corrosion when exposed to water, a process commonly referred to as tribo-corrosion. The process that Argonne developed shows that a few layers of graphene not only reduces friction in steel seven times more but also wear-and-tear 10,000 times more. Not only that, it can significantly reduce tribo-corrosion. According to the researchers, graphene is also cheaper, more efficient and has a longer lifespan. “That’s a significant improvement over any other existing solid lubricants coating available today,” said researcher Anirudha Sumat. “Also, the amount of graphene needed is very small, therefore, cost is much lower. And, eliminating oil waste would be more environmentally friendly, which is a great side benefit.” | ![]() jointer13
26/7/2018 07:17 | All good then CS, thought it was needed for end of July. Come January we'll all be rich! ;-) | ![]() woodpeckers
26/7/2018 07:17 | 1 crack - thank you - very interesting, it wouldn't be particularly significant in terms of size (only 106 cars being built, and already sold out ;0), but in terms of kudos, absolutely incredible. I've been trying to find out, but no success so far: “Technology has moved on, particularly in carbon, and in our tub and monocell," "This team is set to grow to 200 and is working on pushing advances in carbonfibre tub technology." "Around 45 McLaren employees are already located at the nearby University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), which is partnering McLaren. This team is set to grow to 200 and is working on pushing advances in carbonfibre tub technology. Using the university’s facilities, McLaren’s team is making pre-production versions of its one-piece 'MonoCell' tubs that form the basis of its cars. Employees are therefore already gaining experience of the build processes, which are said to embrace some new techniques and more automation." Cheers - Spike | ![]() spike_1
26/7/2018 07:12 | Nothing for you to worry about then CS, orders won't be far away , they haven't ramped up to 3 tonne capacity just because they felt like it! | ![]() luckyorange
26/7/2018 07:12 | It's always been about orders. It always will be. 'Busyness' is what it is. Neill and co are positioning the firm in a methodical way and credible manner that creates opportunity and breeds confidence. All ingredients for success. Timing is a commodity that cannot be bought. Expectations are variable. As neill said in the podcast. He is focused upon building a substantial company for the long term, everything else 'is background noise.' Aimo. Glalth. 26/7/2018 07:10 | Woody, don't need to pay until 1st Jan - plenty of time yet ;-) If there's no China deal and no collab orders have arrived by then I'll be seriously worried about whether VRS can actually deliver on their promise... | club sandwich
