Shavian,
I wouldn't say Steve Hodge is an "eminent" scientist. He may know a bit about graphene but he is quite young and only has about a dozen publications to his name. That's some way off eminent in my book.

Perhaps we should also be analysing what Neill had for his breakfast this morning, in case we can also suggest improvements to that for him?

If we all contributed a fiver, we could hire a private investigator to trail NR daily and report back to this board?

Or maybe one of those tracking drones?

Spike,

Perhaps there are facts I don't know but if I were travelling from the Cheltenham area to London I would drive south 38 miles to Bristol Parkway where, there is, as the name says, parking available and a good regular London service. To head north 57 miles into heavier traffic before turning south just doesn't make sense unless there's something I'm missing.

And I understand Birmingham station has a really big car park right next door.

Spike,

I could well be wrong. Just got that impression from the twitterers on here.

Sandbag - assuming Gloucester is starting point, there's not much difference between going via Bristol or Birmingham.

As I recall, last time he was on his own, and met Matt in London.

"Off to London as are a few other graphene related people I believe."

So he could be at Birmingham to meet another/others for the London trip. I believe the last time he was with Matt. All looking good.

Johnveals - Although nothing to do with last year’s performance, I assume that the appointment was announced today on the basis that the results on Thursday don’t need a distraction!

I see podcast done so that ends that debate.

Off to London as are a few other graphene related people I believe.

This is the second time Neill has tweeted that he's at Birmingham International Railway Station on his way to London. I would have thought Bristol Parkway would have been easier / nearer for a London Trip. Any railway buffs got an idea?

Agree this is another great appointment. Superb team building up.

'including research on more environmentally-friendly aircraft.'

Possibly = electric (they already exist) and RR is building an electric vertical take-off taxi:

And electric = batteries = VRS !!!

Great appointment, delighted that we have Stephen formally on the team.

I see Doc Holiday has tweeted his appointment. Maybe Neill has done the podcsat with him.

RNS (AIM: #VRS) Versarien PLC: Appointment of Head of Research …

11:56 PM - 15 Jul 2018

An obvious reason to announce the appointment this morning, is that Neill has meetings today in London. If they related to - say - China, then letting them know we have just upped our game even more, can only be a good thing ;0)

Obviously this is speculation). Best wishes - Spike

PM will announce today that £300m of government money will be available for several UK Aerospace projects, including research on more environmentally-friendly aircraft.

I'd like to think VRS are in the mix with the research.

Just listened to the head honcho at BAe (British Arsopace as was) telling the Today prog about their plans for an all-British fighter to succeed the Typhoon in the 2030s. As a cynical old Harrier jock my first reaction was ‘C’mon, pull the other one - this ain’t like laying down a batch of 500 Hurricanes in 1938, bringing forth a new generation jet must be beyond our means post-Brexit’.

And then I thought - “Aha - Nanene!”

"Two hours ago, Justin Waite emailed "I've away for a week.."

I don't know if he meant gone away for a week or been away for a week."

Justin Waite mentioned several times, during last week's podcasts, that he would be away this week. I took him to mean that there would be no podcasts this week, although there is occasionally a stand-in chap who does some podcast interviews.

Edit - from posts 20969 and 20970 it would appear some arrangement has been made for a Versarien podcast.

Whichever way you look at it it was a good appointment. It is difficult to come up with some wider motive re the RNS. Any ideas lovat scout ?
