Lovat - attempt to sweeten us up before mediocre results or trying to gather interest so more are interested by good ones...all will be revealed

Most companies would hold back news of this appointment until final results on Thursday - interesting that VRS didn’t.

I think investors learnt a long time ago not to dive into shares after weekend tips.

Daily mail readers not rushing to buy as we were led to believe by the weekend rampers.

Once upon a time we numpties and newbies rather had to take on Trust with fingers crossed the claims that Nanene had been ‘independently verified’. It was bit of a leap of faith and a snap judgement of NR’s character which led me to jump in with both feet to this unknown company trading at 10p in October 2016.

Now the appointment of Steve Hodge as Head of Research fully vindicates those early decisions by many of us. Would such an eminent scientist risk his reputation by joining such a company if he was not absolutely sure of its science? No chance. I feel more confident than ever that this is the real deal.

We are into the middle of the 0820-0840 dip that so often follows an opening rise. If so, 0830 is typically the low at which buyers who know that pattern step in and take it back up ;-)

'His research interests cover the large scale development of nanomaterial-based dispersions, inks, coatings and functional 2d and 3d architectures for their incorporation into flexible electronics, sensor applications and energy storage/generation devices.'

= car batteries and probably soon!

What's not to like, the future is orange and the future is very very bright (IMO)

Best wishes - spike

Two hours ago, Justin Waite emailed "I've away for a week.."

I don't know if he meant gone away for a week or been away for a week.

If he meant he is away this week, he mightof course have recorded a podcast with NR regarding today's news (is that likely, prior to release of tan official RNS?) or might have done so between 7am and 8am this morning? And will he interrupt his vacation to record a podcast on Thursday? (I guess he might, as it can be done from wherever of course)

Excellent addition to the team, Neill is ticking all the boxes for me. Recent reports highlight that spending on R&D leads to market leadership and larger profits. VRS have the right people in the right places, impressive.

Does taking Stephen Hodge onto the payroll justify another podcast? I'm guessing not - especially so close to Results after which there surely will be one.

If I'm wrong, we get two podcasts in one week ;-)

Everything happens for a reason at VRS, twelve months ago the main concern was that it all hinged around one man (NR), certainly gives it a professional front for dealing with the large companies and countries and at the forefront of any new developments.

Expect a podcast later with a more in depth clarification.

I recall being impressed by the array of uses for the ink first time around looking at this.

So for those that didn't watch it.

O/t but £SEE have also made a new appt this morning: 'Jack Boyer, who is based in the UK and holds US and UK citizenship, is a highly experienced non-executive director with significant expertise in the advanced materials and technology sectors. Jack is currently non-executive director at Mitie plc, non-executive director of TT Electronics plc, a board member of the Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials and Chairman of Academies Enterprise Trust.' What could they be up to? Hopefully with advanced materials & the MoU connection they may be looking at graphene for their fovio chips / scanners too (I hold)

Bit of a scoop to get one of the top guys in the Cambridge graphene centre and one of the leaders in the UK on the subject.

Besides that a nice guy too who we met on the Cambridge investor day. An impressive guy. He was in that video presentation by the microfluidization lot where it described a number of uses for graphene ink including fibres.

I'll try to track it down.

Good to see Dr Hodge donning the team shirt. Underscores the idea that academia respects the direction VRS is heading and that Neill recognises the value of supporting R&D at the forefront of discovery.

Indeed. With the timing of this appointment, might we soon see another product launch possibly ? Aimo. Best ellis

elliss - well they've identified 2000 possible 2D materials, and so far we have Nanene, Hexotene and MoS2 - so yes, a long long way to go.

And IMO, as I've said before, this is the biggest surety for people not to try and steal our IP - if they try to, and VRS find out, they stop getting access to all the shiny new wonder-materials emerging from the VRS labs or the labs of those they have relationships with (and that seems to be everyone important in the UK). If you were China, would you try and steal the recipe for Nanene knowing that there's a whole queue of possibly even better / more revolutionary nano-materials coming up behind it?
