Not quite the RNS we were hoping for, but welcome nonetheless.

Versarien plc

("Versarien" or the "Company")

Appointment of Head of Research

Versarien plc (AIM: VRS), the advanced materials engineering group, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Stephen Hodge as the Company's Head of Research.

Dr Hodge was previously a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Cambridge Graphene Centre at the University of Cambridge, Teaching Fellow in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Graphene Technology and bye-fellow at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge. He graduated from the University of Bath with a MChem in Chemistry and then obtained his PhD in Nanomaterials Chemistry at Imperial College London, before joining the Cambridge Graphene Centre in 2014. His research interests cover the large scale development of nanomaterial-based dispersions, inks, coatings and functional 2d and 3d architectures for their incorporation into flexible electronics, sensor applications and energy storage/generation devices.

Dr Hodge will be primarily responsible for overseeing all the Company's graphene and other 2d materials research and development activities, including the Company's participation in the recently announced Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre at the University of Manchester. He will be based as an industrial visitor at the Cambridge Graphene Centre, additionally fostering the training of students in graphene technology and developing joint projects.

Neill Ricketts, CEO of Versarien, commented: "I am delighted that Stephen has been appointed to the newly created role of Head of Research. He has been working at the forefront of graphene and other 2d materials development for some time and his leadership of our R&D function will ensure that Versarien remains at the very cutting edge of the development of 2d materials and their applications."

Shavian, I think it was from a Dec'14 quote, when she was explaining how graphene could be extracted from methane generated by cows....

Extreme caution required when absorbing another of her quotes from that era:

“It’s mind-blowing to think that not long ago, it was only possible to make a ladleful in a year. Now we can make enough to fill a whole building,” she tells The Sunday Telegraph. “And we have the capacity to increase that 100-fold.”

Back to more serious matters...

Axo: Mikkydhu has it spot on, and it only took him 23 minutes to find her - respect!

The only question I cannot answer is your last one - “Why is she looking so pleased?”
Does Cambridge Nanosystems know something we don’t? Whatever is in that box is certainly not heavy. May be tea leaves after all.

I find it interesting that NR retweeted this:

“If the company's Annual Results on Thursday are good enough to boost the share price, the author might proudly revisit Versarien, to boast his prowess as a tipster. If so, I hope the ceo is going to offer his phone number to discuss further detail”.

-------------------------------------------
Melf, I too find it interesting that a ceo would associate himself with that comment by sharing it. Doing so kind of implies that such a scenario is possible. Surely if the results were set to disappoint, he would quietly wince and stay schtum rather than provide the likes of TK with ammunition?

(the 'author' referred to being the Daily Mail journalist who named Versarien his 'Punt of the week')

Bearing in mind the Daily Mail tip... anyone new looking in...95% of posters here intend to be VERY long term holders, we've been here a while and are lucky enough to have some great minds who research and share...there are very few shares in free float...we all feel very lucky to be invested in the company that could very easily be at the beginning of the next industrial revolution...all incredibly exciting...but DYOR ... the Stockopedia links at the top are a great place to start...

There is a lot there to get through...that's because this company has a lot to offer...there really are no limits to where this could go...

Interesting this has 4m views in less than a week (Why graphene hasn't taken over the world?...yet): hxxps://youtu.be/IesIsKMjB4Y Makes it seem easy to manufacture and no discussions of the different grades of graphene or the need for an ISO.

sonson - not meant to be a ramp, just my opinion. and my price target. I might sell a few on the way up (for example I have a tax bill end of this year), but I won't be selling any large amounts (given I only hold 55k anyway!) until that price...

"Johnson Controls International plc is a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Cork, Ireland, that produces automotive parts such as batteries, and electronics and HVAC equipment for buildings. It employs 170,000 people in more than 1,300 locations across six continents. As of 2016, it was listed as 242nd in the Fortune Global 500; in 2017, it became ineligible for the Fortune 500, as it was headquartered outside the U.S.

The company was formed via the merger of American company Johnson Controls with Tyco International, announced on January 25, 2016. The merger led to the avoidance of U.S. taxes on its foreign market operations ...." (source )

How is this relevant?
Because Versarien has been linked (via WMG) with Varta? And in the last couple of years (as well as in this older reference) Varta has changed:

"(Varta).. In 2002, the consumer battery activities (excluding button cells) were sold to Rayovac. The automotive battery business was acquired by Johnson Controls..."
".. In January 2018, american company Energizer takes control over VARTA consumer battery segment .."
".. Energizer Holdings is an American manufacturer of batteries, headquartered in Missouri. It produces batteries under the Energizer and EverReady brand names.."

(source: )

PS: Mind you - if the WMG connection is with Varta m/i rather than with the Varta products division, some of all this might not be relevant at all! But at least it explains how a few familiar battery names are related ;-)

Anyone like to take a guess on this one?

1) Who is the young lady?

2) And what's she got in that box?

3) And where was the pic taken?

4) Why is she so pleased?

Clue: They're not tea leaves...
