25/7/2018 19:14 | Tesco still doing well I'm pleased to say. OT HI PHIL I notice you started the thread for CTEC have just bought in and wondered if you would mind if we started a new thread? I think the original header might put people off! I'm hoping somebody else will offer as my charts don't often work! | hazl

24/7/2018 09:39 | Kantar Worldpanel showed Sainsbury's market share dipped by 0.4 percentage point to 16% in the 12 weeks to July 15, while Tesco's fell to 27.6% from 27.9%. Morrisons' market share was steady at 10.5%, and Ocado's edged up to 1.2% from 1.1%. "Football fever" bolstered by hot weather in the UK boosted supermarket sales by 3.6%, Kantar said, the fastest rate of growth so far this year. | fangorn2
24/7/2018 09:34 | Back to your Morris dancing......... | ladeside

24/7/2018 07:45 | Be interesting telling the wife that I am just popping up to Jack's. | ignoble
24/7/2018 07:44 | I like the name Jack's ....different | ignoble
24/7/2018 00:04 | Tesco is hiring staff for a new chain of discount stores called Jack's as it seeks to face down budget rivals Aldi and Lidl. It looks set to open between 30 and 60 shops by changing existing stores or reopening closed ones. The supermarket has now started recruiting for the project – sparking speculation that the first Jack's could open this autumn. The chain has listed a series of job adverts with a closing date of August 10. They do not reveal much detail but make it clear that employees would not be working in a normal Tesco supermarket | philanderer
23/7/2018 15:00 | I notice that on a lot of products Tesco pretty much match Lidl/Aldi, but I would think a near copy of their stores would see considerable savings on operating costs, especially if they copy the employment model. If they make it work I could see the model being rolled out across a lot more existing smaller Tesco stores. You have to wonder, what took them so long? | lefrene
23/7/2018 14:53 | Tesco to launch new store format to take on Lidl & Aldi: Thoughts? | pj fozzie
17/7/2018 18:15 | I think that Tesco and Carrefour are 2 & 3rd in world terms behind Walmart so I would expect some probe by somebody. Probably routine. edit: opened a small bullish position today. | alphorn
17/7/2018 18:09 | Presumably that would not have occurred had the UK been remaining? | ianood
17/7/2018 16:17 | Tesco facing competition probe with Carrefour tie up | philanderer
13/7/2018 11:48 | We've been over the "equal pay" nonsense 100 times before, basically there is no case to answer as it's not a like for like. The warehouse / distribution centre role is completely different and entails hard graft /heavy lifting etc and as such pays a premium. Best to just ignore all the ridiculous scare stories and of course the saddest part is that many of the previously respected broadsheets are now behaving like the tabloids with all the sensationalist spin. Pretty pathetic I'm afraid.............. | ladeside
12/7/2018 18:29 | @Scotches "So why didn't the women apply for the higher paying warehouse jobs in the first place?" Because they're generally not strong enough, and seemingly prefer to work in the main part of the shop! @Phil "Good idea :-) 'Morrisons to offer customers 10p for each plastic bottle they return in new trial' Pity not Nationwide. Notheading north of Watford gap to hand in some plastic bottles. Superb idea though. Pity it's not cash And I wonder which dodgy charities they have lined up. | fangorn2
12/7/2018 17:42 | The argument seems to be that it is the perceived "value" of the job is going to be assessed. Many will view for example hospital staff of more "value" to society than a lawyer but I don't expect them to achieve salary parity any time soon. | scotches
12/7/2018 17:37 | Good idea :-) 'Morrisons to offer customers 10p for each plastic bottle they return in new trial' You can take the money in points or make a donation to charity under the new scheme being tried out by Morrisons | philanderer
12/7/2018 16:56 | Not just Tesco though is it ,seems to be the latest way for briefs to make money we live in strange times. | nathdani
12/7/2018 14:46 | So why didn't the women apply for the higher paying warehouse jobs in the first place? | scotches |
