However, Tesco still also shed market share, down 0.5 of a percentage point to 27.4%. German discounter Aldi was the fastest growing supermarket in the period, with sales up 14% on year and market share up 0.6 of a percentage point to 7.6%. 16/9/2018 09:46 | I buy Comfort Lavender as my softener, however for a little while I couldn't work out why the bottles now say '36 washes' when they use to say '42 washes' and both bottles cost £2. After I got it home and took a closer look I noticed that the older bottle was 1.5ltrs while the new bottle is 1.26ltrs. I strongly dislike this as this is inflation through the back door, keeping the price the same while reducing the amount of the product. The price per unit of Comfort has risen by 19% in a year while the inflation rate shows it hasn't gone up because the bottle still costs £2. Over the past 10 years I've notice prices may go up by say 5% a year while the contents reduce which means the real shopping inflation rate is 15% plus a year. | loganair

13/9/2018 09:54 | Shore Capital excited by Tesco’s new arrival News that Tesco (TSCO) is launching a new discount chain called Jack’s next week is ‘exciting&rsqu Analyst Clive Black retained his ‘buy’ recommendation on the shares, which were trading at 237.5p yesterday. Black said Jack’s arrival could ‘move the dial’ for Tesco, which would not ‘embrace a potentially major piece of work for it to be marginal’. ‘Hence, Jack’s potential arrival does bring with it a modicum of excitement,’ he said. On the Tesco shares he said they are still a ‘buy’ despite the ‘rather fulsome near-term stock rating’. ‘We see the UK as stable and now generating growing operating cashflow… Ireland looks increasingly well set,’ said Black. ‘All in all… a business where cashflow, earnings, dividends, and returns look well set for the medium-term.’ | philanderer
