28/9/2018 09:18 | Hazl. I will just add, though,as only just caught up with bb contributions, that food-banks,certainly round here,do not give food out at the drop of a hat, people have to go through rigorous vetting, so I was told by a friend/volunteer. ==================== That was certainly supposed to be the case Hazl but in practice it isn't so, from my observations locally it's a free for all and in some cases the banks cannot give away all they collect and it gets dumped. There was a news report (can't remember the exact detail at the mo) where the locals were complaining that the road away from the giveaway site was littered with food dumped by recipients leaving the place. | vaneric1
28/9/2018 06:50 | THANKS Philanderer to return to Tesco talk. I will just add, though,as only just caught up with bb contributions, that food-banks,certainly round here,do not give food out at the drop of a hat, people have to go through rigorous vetting, so I was told by a friend/volunteer. Also they might get a box and then have to wait for some time before getting anything further. Lastly, the 'kind' donors often give nothing but baked-beans, and things are sometimes out of date! Don't judge a man till you've walked ten miles in his shoes as the old saying goes! | hazl
27/9/2018 23:54 | 👍 'Supermarket giant Tesco launches trial that pays its customers to recycle plastic bottles as part of government push to go greener' | philanderer
27/9/2018 18:18 | 'Sainsbury's and Asda may have to offload 460 stores to seal merger' ......The watchdog said its initial investigation indicated overlap within the supply or acquisition of groceries, fuel and homewares. It said the two grocers would account for just over 30% of the groceries sold by the top nine UK supermarket chains and, alongside the market leader Tesco, would control a total of 60%. | philanderer
27/9/2018 17:22 | it all boils down to short and longs everyone trying to justify there position.lol | nathdani
27/9/2018 16:50 | A quick look at the local news shows that there was a severe water shortage in the Rochdale area, canals and swimming baths closed and water being shifted from one reservoir to another, maybe that's a hint as to why some were stocking up. | vaneric1
27/9/2018 16:40 | As I said Logan, you need to know the circumstances not just the headlines. | vaneric1
27/9/2018 16:38 | vaneric1, you do realise it's 2018 and not 1948 don't you ? Rationing. Volvic flavoured water. LOL. | dexdringle
27/9/2018 15:56 | I have never seen any rationing at my local Tesco, are able to buy as many bottles of water as one likes as long as they have them on the shelf. | loganair
27/9/2018 15:49 | It's called rationing Dex, there to stop the greedy taking the lot and leaving nothing for anyone else. You need to know why the policy was put in place before jumping to conclusions but newspapers have no interest in that, it doesn't sell newspapers. | vaneric1
27/9/2018 13:26 | "Customers watched on as an officer allegedly wrestled a man to the ground" Is it possible to physically watch someone allegedly doing something ? Surely if you are watching them do it they are actually doing it ? Shop Assistant: "I'm terribly sorry sir, we have a store policy that allows the purchase of only ten bottles" Customer; "I do apologise, I had no idea. I'll just take the ten bottles then and be on my way..." Idiotic policy meets idiotic customer. What could possibly go wrong..... | dexdringle
27/9/2018 13:18 | Carefully edited video, not showing what went before and why the cops were called in the first place. | vaneric1
27/9/2018 13:01 | You can't believe everything you read in the media. | filmster
27/9/2018 12:25 | Tesco, Time to stop the arrogant dictating and get your act together, this is unaceptable. Shocking moment police 'drag couple to the floor and arrest them at Tesco tills after staff refuse to sell them trolley-load of bottled water' Photo. | johnwise
27/9/2018 09:21 | Neilyb365 - You are definitely 'special' I'll give you that.... | dexdringle
27/9/2018 09:17 | That should read 'Some young people' Neilyb675, there a many many youngsters who do as we did, they're not ALL layabouts. | vaneric1
26/9/2018 17:59 | 1. Did a paper round early morning, then after school. 2. Did skittles sticking up (sweaty work). 3. Got my first real job aged 16 (FTSE100 company). Paid maximum AVCs from age 18. 4. Took voluntary redundancy after 22 years. 5. Took part time job in local supermarket (FTSE100 company). 6. Head hunted into role similar to that which I took redundancy with FTSE100 company. 7. 2 years into job not happy, several rows, head hunted into bigger company (FTSE100), HUGE company and took 20% pay rise ++ benefits. 8. Maintain role at part time job. Young people do not have the willpower or drive or mentality to succeed. I do. | neilyb675
26/9/2018 09:45 | Not their pattern of trading reels, they're not interested in bricks and mortar, I don't think they could afford it either :-)) | vaneric1
26/9/2018 09:45 | reels, given the Amazon business model I would think that Ocado would be more tempting? | lefrene
26/9/2018 09:27 | Would amazon buy Tesco? For logistics, access to Uk food and deployment of cash overseas. Just a thought. | reels
25/9/2018 21:43 | Likewise, I've got to where I am through hard work, I've had no financial handouts, I did benefit from University before tuition fees but still had to take on debt for rent and living etc. I did paperounds (plural) from 12, worked in a local shop from 14, worked every summer break, worked 20hrs/week evenings in a warehouse whilst at University (all minimum wage). I do give to charity (3 of them) on a monthly basis and run a local business that gives a % of profit to local causes. AND!!! I'm still the type of c*nt that thinks use of food banks should be means tests. I really should get a grip... | greenroom78 |
