A Russian handler told UN inspectors that a rocket made a 180-degree turn before impact close to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in an attempt to convince them it had not been fired from Russian-held territory.Renat Karchaa, a Russian nuclear expert, told the bemused group from the International Atomic Energy Agency that the cluster munition made a sudden U-turn just before smashing into the ground.Video shared online on Friday showed him gesturing to indicate the missile's alleged sharp change in direction, after he was challenged by inspectors on the origins of the shelling.... RUSSIAN BANKS LOSE $25BNRussian banks lost a combined 1.5 trillion troubles ($25bn) in the first half of the year as western sanctions shut the country out of large parts of the global financial system.Dmitry Tulin, first deputy chairman of Russia's central bank, said around two-third of the losses came from foreign currency operations as lenders were blocked from trading in dollars, euros and other currencies. He told newspaper RBC that the losses were concentrated among Russia's "systemically important" banks, which are the largest and have higher capital adequacy requirements. But Tulin insisted the central bank didn't expect a repeat of the 2014-17 banking crisis, when the regulator had to bail out several lenders and stripped banking licences from hundreds of poorly capitalised banks. It's the first time Russia has disclosed figures for its banking sector since the invasion of Ukraine.... japan will never join with China for the simple reason the Chinese have never forgiven them for Manchuria in 1930's and are merely biding their time to mete out retribution.

If you knew your history you'd know that!

"I think South Korea will also join with China and Russia, it seems to me reasonable to say that China will offer reunification with North Korea in return"

As long as North Korea runs the United Korea - else no chance of China allowing a pro West Democratic powerhouse on its doorstep.

Some really naive people on this board making ridiculous uneducated postulations.

Residents have said that Russian soldiers often drink from lunchtime, and can be aggressive and dangerous. There have been allegations of rape and theft. The Kremlin had hoped to turn Kherson into a model of how regions of Ukraine under its control would be better off, but it has not turned out this way. Most people in Kherson have said that they want to leave the region as its economy and services fail. Offers to take up a Russian passport have largely been ignored. Many areas and towns in Ukraine that have fallen under the control of Russia's army since its invasion six months ago have been razed. ... Most Japanese companies that had operations in Russia before the invasion of Ukraine are ignoring calls to withdraw from the market with just 6 out of 168 listed Japanese firms in Russia completely pulling out.

In comparison, 27 per cent of US firms have completely pulled out of Russia, along with 33 per cent of Canadian and 46 per cent of British businesses.

Tokyo Gas, Japan's biggest city gas supplier, signed a new long-term natural gas contract with the operator of Russia's Sakhalin-2 project which they will pay for in any other currency than the US dollar.

A spokesperson from Tokyo Gas said the Japanese supplier decided to sign since the essentials of the contract, such as the volume of natural gas, remained the same. Japan's top power supplier, JERA, on Friday 26 August also signed the revised contracts with Sakhalin for the same reasons.

Russia approved the inclusion of Japan’s Mitsui & Co. among the investors of a newly established company to operate the Russian Sakhalin 2 energy project, the company said Wednesday.

Mitsui “submitted a consent on Aug. 25, 2022 to take ownership of shares in Sakhalin Energy LLC” and was “informed of the approval from the Russian government yesterday, August 30,” the Japanese company said in a statement.

Russia has approved an application by Japan's Mitsubishi to take a stake in Russia's Sakhalin-2 liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, a government order published on Wednesday showed.

The Kremlin said it had approved Mitsubishi's request to transfer a 10 per cent stake in the old operator to an equal stake in Sakhalin Energy.

Shell has already declared its intention to exit the project in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but Mitsui and Mitsubishi chose to maintain their investment. Gazprom will keep its stake.

So only stupid Shell, so they could virtual signal to look good to the WOKE crowd, has walked away thereby writing off over $5bln of investment.

Uncertainty rules.

Anything could happen.

There's no precedent.
