18/11/2024 14:30 | wilm It's an appalling market. I really have no confidence in it. We've had that before of course, but it's ''when will confidence return'' is the bigger question. | scottishfield
18/11/2024 14:30 | Afternoon All. Got some jobs done before the rain set in. Conservatory roof cleaned, my car washed and polished, MrsP's car washed. Boiler engineer now here for annual service. My lot struggling today. FSFL down for no apparent reason, SCLP down on good progress with trials. | mrphil
18/11/2024 14:13 | Very cold this morning taking my Mrs into work, -2c. Struggle to see much growth in the economy with energy prices remaining elevated. Factor in the recent pledge by Starmer at COP29 to reduce carbon emissions by 81% and I worry we will be poorer and colder in the years ahead. Talking of becoming poorer, my shares are looking rather red at present. wllm :) | wllmherk
18/11/2024 10:47 | Energy prices to rise 1% in New Year | philanderer
18/11/2024 10:26 | How quickly the chickens are threatening to come home to roost! | skinny
18/11/2024 10:24 | 5 deg here and a bit of sun. Rain forecast for later. | scottishfield
18/11/2024 10:19 | Morning everyone. The sun is doing it's best to break through. Not too cold. Portfolio not woken up , dead flat. Had a good circular walk around the heathlands of Wokingham yesterday. Lunchtime sandwiches and tea at a fruit farm :-) G, pleased to hear the good news for your wife. | philanderer
18/11/2024 09:39 | We usually get condensation in September early October until we get the central heating on every day to dry domestic textiles out. By now, condensation is normally less of an issue with just occasional very cold days causing any. The run of southerly humid air and grey weather of late seems to have been a conveyor of moisture and slowed the dehydration process out this year. I've had to wipe windows pretty much every day for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping crisp sunny weather, drier air, and more heating use will take us back to normal. | aleman
18/11/2024 09:17 | Ale, condensation is a problem this time of year. We bought a Bosch window vac to go with the dehumidifier, which seem to work well. As the condensation on the windows is pure water, a secondary benefit is they are kept very clean! | bamboo2
18/11/2024 09:08 | Good Morning. A cold but bright start. Gateside - I'm glad your wife seems to be over the op and in to recovery mode. My youngest daughter (36) did almost the exact same thing earlier in the year - a one step stumble, resulting in a plate and pins. She has just finished her course of physio and seems well on the way to regaining her fitness. | skinny
18/11/2024 08:27 | Morning. Thanks for update wllm. Sunny and 4C here,no frost yet, forecast for next few nights, then warming for weekend, | malcolm caton
18/11/2024 08:03 | Good morning. There's a hard frost and sun will be shining soon. The windows are caked in condensation, which we've been getting quite a bit of in the past week, so I've done quite a bit of wiping first thing. Roads and paths have some white patches and any little puddles are frozen. I've put a little sprinkling of salt outside our house since the council have done nothing yet. Obviously a week is not enough warning. Still don't know where this snow is going but Midlands looks favourite, though Met Office still seems to be going for the North. South is not yet ruled out, though it does not look cold enough down there yet for any significant settling. | aleman
17/11/2024 22:09 | My dad always spoke very highly of Aberdeen NHS when he needed them. Glad to hear somewhere is trying to maintain standards because I'm referring to 20 years ago. | aleman
17/11/2024 21:55 | Thanks gents :)Mrs G had her operation late this afternoon. She had a spinal block, as opposed to general anaesthetic, so she was aware of what was going on. The miracles of modern medicine.Had a plate and pins fitted to strengthen her ankle. It was all misaligned after breaking her fibula.Tripped on a friend's baby gate coming down their stairs!I'm told nurses and doctors there (Aberdeen) are all amazing. Pity she had to wait 3 weeks for surgery, but it's done now and recovery proper can start. | gateside
17/11/2024 21:37 | I do hope that Mrs Gateside has got her procedure done successfully. Snow showers are settling at my sister's, near Aberdeen. 2.0C here now. Models now predict somewhat different snow directions for tomorrow, some well south of us. Just look out of the window at tea time so see who gets it! A small milder low circulating a big cold one does make predicting marginal snow very difficult, though. I remain impressed this was in models a week ago and did not change much since. | aleman
17/11/2024 15:34 | Thanks wllm for the standings. Hope your wife's ankle op has happened Gateside. Nothing worse than getting prepared with fasting etc then have it rescheduled as my ankle repair was . | blueliner
17/11/2024 12:49 | As for my portfolio, I'm really not sure why I'm so far behind everyone else. Its spread over 28 different shares and a number of sectors and countries and is mostly defensive.Oh well, more important things to concern myself about at present.Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. | gateside
17/11/2024 12:46 | Thanks for the update wllm Got a call yesterday evening, took my wife to hospital for ankle surgery today. It was due to be this morning, but she's still waiting. Hopefully it will be done today, the nurses and doctors are all fantastic, but the ward she is in is distressing.Hopefull | gateside
17/11/2024 10:15 | Good Morning. Thanks wllm. A bright start @8C, but it looks to be downhill from here until next weekend. | skinny
17/11/2024 09:02 | I hope your wife gets her treatment soon Gateside. Mrs wllmherk could tell your many stories of people being failed by the NHS, it's actually frightening as we get older. I can't help but think back to the crazy policies pursued during the pandemic, stay in to save the NHS they said, what exactly did we save? wllm :) | wllmherk |
