16/11/2024 11:12 | +0.8% on the day. STCM's capital return gave a nice little boost. With a couple of modest dividends added, my YTD is now +1.8% so a decent week but the underlying trend still felt poor. No.2 seems to have recovered quickly. The dog is going back after blotting its copybook after being sick the last two nights for reasons we can't work out. Otherwise a pleasant stay. It was 11.5C after 2.0C on Friday. Nevis webcams show snow starting bang in line with forecasts from days ago. I still find it hard to believe we'll get much more than sleet but models have been very consistent about what is coming, including Tuesday's wind to add to the snow. However, I suspect the main problem will be morning ice for most. The sun has just come out now so we're walking the dog and taking it home. | aleman
16/11/2024 00:01 | Skinny, there's not a lot to smile about these days and plenty to look down and shake your head. The country I used to know has gone to the dogs. Machetes and knives making the news every day. Cold tonight. | philanderer
15/11/2024 23:47 | Mrs G has been waiting 3 weeks now for surgery on her ankle. We were told that it would be 2 weeks maximum!GP told us that there are 47 people waiting and desperately needing orthopaedic surgery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. NHS is in dire straits.Had a delightful lunch with 2 colleagues from my old work this afternoon. All 3 of us have left the school we worked at, so it was good to catch up and share stories.Portfolio not good at all, last 7 weeks have been brutal with big falls. It's supposed to be low risk and defensive!YTD is -3.49%Enjoy your weekend everyone | gateside
15/11/2024 22:08 | Your not alone Skinny. Investoree, I hope you pop by again, I like the cut of your jib :) Quite breezy today but dry, temperature around 11c for most of the day. My son was home for a couple of days, seems really busy at Uni with exams and his dissertation on the horizon. We ended up driving him back to his flat as the trains running between our house and Edinburgh were cancelled, no reason given. The powers that be want us out our cars and using trains and buses but, I find public transport, especially the railway service, incredibly unreliable. A bit of a recovery in my stocks today eventually ending up on the week +0.16%, YTD +4.05% Heading to Homebase tomorrow for 2 outside security lights, tennis Sunday. Have a nice weekend gents, wllm :) | wllmherk
15/11/2024 20:35 | I finished up 0.71%, +0.41% on the week and +2.15% YTD. Am I alone in becoming totally despondent with every aspect of our current society? Enjoy your weekend. | skinny
15/11/2024 19:49 | @blueliner - I think my lesson is to cut out the middleman and go straight to the provider.. hope you get on better than I did. Funds now updated and ended week +0.04% YTD is now +1.62% SNR dividend received today and will be reinvested next week. Good weekend all - if the weather holds I might get my lawn cut tomorrow and might be the last till next year then. | carpingtris
15/11/2024 19:15 | +0.37% folio, [FTSE All-Share -0.11%] Another good day for AV. deservedly so, also SCLP, NEXN, PHNX, PLUS, BT.A rose. My BA.,folio holding took a hammering, is this to do with Trump as well as renewables and pharmas falling, certainly fixed it for me. On the week -0.37% Shares of the week : SCLP, AV. Fallers of the week : BHP, GSF Folio YTD +6.81% Quiz wouldn't work for me. Best of luck with your new phone carpingtris, I have got that pleasure to come with Carphone. Have a good weekend everybody. | blueliner
15/11/2024 17:51 | Will likely update in the morning as waiting on some fund prices which have usually updated by now.. Painful day sorting a new contract for my mobile with visit to Curry's (Carphone warehouse) ... then visit to Vodafone shop where was corrected and back to Curry's to have what they'd signed me upto cancelled... performance to say the least and I put Curry's in the same category as Halfords... best avoided as poor customer service... and that's despite Curry's seemingly having more staff meandering about than customers! | carpingtris
15/11/2024 17:46 | UP 0.46% on day Best risers MSHL.PLUS,CPI,RIO,ZO Worst fallers FEVR,GSK,RR.,BA, On the week -0.61% YTD +2.32% | malcolm caton

Dry enough to get the mower out for a high trim . Looks tidy now. Fresh compost mixture into the climbing rose huge pot. Brisk local walk late on. No plans for tomorrow and a hike on sunday. Lasagne and salad tonight. Bottle of Pinotage. Good weekend everyone. | philanderer
15/11/2024 16:53 | Duff end to the week for me, down 0.35% meaning another down week YTD 6.5% VLX big loser, cost me 0.5% on its own, GSK didn't help either. It seems the appointment of antivax RFK hasn't gone down well. Regardless of his conspiracy theories I don't understand how you can put someone who was campaigning for the other side until recently and has no relevant experience into such an important job. His antifracking beliefs may cause some friction internally too. Had the car back, quicker than I expected but also more expensive. The part was £300 which was a bit steep, they did say it was the only suitable one they could get in a quick timeframe and I have to swallow that. Still less than the vets bill from last month. | dr biotech
15/11/2024 16:15 | Mr Phil, unfortunately it isn't that easy to escape some of the extra taxes imposed on cars by successive greedy Governments which have an original list price of over £40k irrespective of what price the customer pays, whether new, or second hand - the problem is that it is the original list price that counts with the additional £410 VED (Road Tax) charged for 5 years after the first years cheaper rate VED (Road Tax) not the price the customer pays. I recently bought a second hand Ford Kuga PHEV with an original list price of just under £40k for £24,400 as I didn't want to be saddled with the extra 5 years worth of additional £410 VED licence fees on top of the £180 per year. I also wanted the option of filling up with conventional fuel at a garage and using the electricity generated by my solar array (when the sun shines) for most of my journeys which are within the range of the battery. They are trying to force everyone to buy electric cars, power their homes by electricity and cover the whole countryside in windmills, solar farms and pylons so that when the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine like it didn't during the last fortnight we will eventually end up cold shivering and hungry when we can't cook our food and the cheap rate electricity currently available overnight will eventually be charged at a premium rate when everyone wants to use off peak electricity. There are some dark days ahead. Forcing farmers to sell off land with their inheritance tax scam is designed to free it up for solar farms and housing for the freeloaders crossing the channel from France. I expect I will get a visit from the local gendarmery to report me for non hate crime offence. I could carry on my rant but will end it here. Good luck and best wishes to you all | investoree
15/11/2024 16:13 | Bit early but here are my figures for the week. +0.20% on the week, YTD now +5.27% Enjoy your weekends MrP | mrphil
15/11/2024 15:53 | Well done to Paddy McGuinness, looks like he has raised £7.5M from his chopper cycle ride! | mrphil
15/11/2024 15:25 | phil, so many contradictions in their actions! As it happens, I wouldn't buy a brand new EV (or any car for that matter) as you can get such a cracking deal on nearly new, then you avoid the luxury car tax. Bit early to report as anything could happen in the last hour, but MrsP's ISA gained +1.45% on the week and is now +16.15% YTD. I seem to be doing well with that, just wish I was doing so well with my own investments! | mrphil
15/11/2024 14:50 | Never ending. Electric car drivers have been warned they face a new £2,125 luxury vehicle tax from April next year, in a move which could risk conflicting with the UK's net-zero ambitions. The additional levy, known as the expensive car supplement, will apply to all electric vehicles priced above £40,000 | philanderer
15/11/2024 14:34 | Skinny, Badger beers are my current favourite but haven't seen this one yet, probably a special for the season, and it looks like it is only in cask so I'll have to see if they have it in our local classic car meeting venue next month! Looking good today other than GSK & TEK | mrphil
15/11/2024 13:08 | MrP - I've just had an email detailing this beer - your neck of the woods. | skinny
15/11/2024 12:31 | An hour or so outside cleaning / de-vine weeviling begonia tubers and the earlier shine seems to have come off of the utilities - anything obvious? | skinny
15/11/2024 11:46 | Click on image for video of next weeks falling snow (not settled totals). It could well be cold enough for most of it to hang around. (BBC seem to be the only ones restricting snow to Scotland on Tuesday. They never seem to report snow until you can see it outside your window.) The ettled snow map suggests anoher slider on Friday that will "fill in" the southern Midlands bits that miss the first two, and no thaw until the 24th. Met Office has issued a yellow snow warning for Scottish north coast and Borders. England's Health Care Authority has issued carers' first level warning for North, and second level for Lancashire/Cumbria. This looks more like what to expect in reality, based on previous experience - 10cm per hour of snow somewhere high on the Borders, Pennines and N.York Moors. Cold sleety rain for lower levels, Vale of York, and then a freeze. (With showers and sliders after Tues managing lower levels once cold is better established.) | aleman
15/11/2024 11:23 | Thank goodness I didn't bet the house on TEK. Down 65% so far and struggling to see any sign of recovery. | mrphil
15/11/2024 10:55 | None of these articles seem to mention that the new CPTPP pact, opening up trade with markets containing 500m people, goes live in 4 weeks. That's besides a number of modest new bilateral agreements and some large new ones under negotiation that include the USA and India. All the media ever report is that Brexit has screwed the economy while mentioning none of the new deals. | aleman
15/11/2024 10:36 | MrP - you have to despair! | skinny
15/11/2024 10:35 | "Tesla CEO Elon Musk, one of Trump’s biggest backers and the world’s richest person, said in July that killing the subsidy might slightly hurt Tesla sales but would be “devastating&r We seem to be accelerating towards 1984, both here and across the water :- | skinny |
