15/11/2024 10:07 | Morning everyone. Cold and overcast . Quiz = 1/7 and that was a guess. Chicken farmers in Herefordshire have just about wrecked the lovely River Wye allowing all the slurry to run off into the rivers. | philanderer
15/11/2024 09:59 | 4/7 for me. Big fall in VLX is going to cost me today. Results and a potential takeover of TT not going down well. Down 0.6% on that alone. | dr biotech
15/11/2024 09:39 | A bit ironic this comes out just when we are all in support of our farmers following the recent IHT raid. | mrphil
15/11/2024 09:36 | Skinny, if he keeps the high tariff on Chinese EV's then cancelling the tax credit would help his mate Elon in the long run. Must admit I do worry for the UK & European auto industry as we are clearly heading down the EV route medium to long term and we have allowed the Chinese to totally dominate that market, largely down to the anti-EV rhetoric here which has simply served to harm our local producers by forcing them to still faff about with old technology whilst the Chinese have invested heavily in EV's. No wonder they are starting to flood our market with their cheaper products. The problem is that our auto industry have failed to embrace the change to EV's, they have just tinkered with it enough to tick eco boxes. JLR are taking Jaguar down the "EV only" route but have left it a bit late and I'm not sure if their re-brand into the upper luxury market is such a good idea, but time will tell. The I-Pace certainly proved they are capable of producing a world beating product, albeit 6 years ago! | mrphil
15/11/2024 09:32 | 3/7All guesses | gateside
15/11/2024 09:06 | 4/7 for me, better guessing than usual! Is there anybody that ever thought labour would meet their housing target, including themselves? | mrphil
15/11/2024 08:35 | Morning cold and grey skies,and a red portfolio. 5/7 knew most | malcolm caton
15/11/2024 08:16 | Good morning. Sunny after a chilly night. I can see what looks like a bank of fog nearby. No.2 off with a mild fever. UK Q3 GDP +0.1%. UK Q3 GDP per capita -0.1%. So flirting with per capita recession continues through a 3rd year during a period that the public sector has grown, mainly down to a roughly 10% rise in NHS employment, adding perhaps about 0.2% per year to GDP. Knock out the NHS growth and the private sectorof the UK (excluding health) is very likely in its 3rd year of mild per capita recession. That's why so many smallcaps are still struggling. | aleman
15/11/2024 08:15 | Morning All. Certainly getting a chill in the air here, we're forecast a high of just 11°C in the sunshine this afternoon. I can live with that if it stays dry. Will be late reporting this week as we're off later this afternoon for an evening concert to see Aussie Pink Floyd who I have seen before with eldest son and they were brilliant so taking MrsP this time. Tomorrow we're meeting friends at Petworth Park for a catch up which will be nice. We try to meet up once or twice a year at a National Trust place somewhere between here and Kent (where they live) and this time it's closer to us! Let's see what delights today has in store. | mrphil
15/11/2024 07:24 | Good Morning. No quiz link as yet. | skinny
14/11/2024 21:20 | Tuesday is 2 feet of snow for Scottish Borders summits (Beattock) , OR a foot of snow for Yorkshire Pennines, OR 2 inches across the Midlands - take your pick. Note that it's basically heavy snow on highest ground and not a lot elsewhere. Like I said, expect it to feel very cold in sleety rain and wind, with overnight icing issues. Edit - Model output gets dafter. Check out the wind on the back of Tuesday's "slider" low - peaks of 80 to 150 km/h/50-90mph. How can it be so windy and still be cold enough to snow when seas are still up at 12C? Seems unlikely both can be right. | aleman
14/11/2024 19:59 | I'm up +0.576% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.509%). Best rises: AV. +4.56%, UU. +3.39% and BP. +2.49%. Worst falls: UKW -2.47% XD, BA. -2.19% and SMDS -0.89%. Nice rises from AV. and UU. Miners dull, oils better. Curry day at Wetherspoons today. Misty first thing, but cleared. Got some washing dry. DF | deanforester
14/11/2024 19:35 | Colorado Springs' snow record for all of November is 26 inches. They got 24 inches in 4 days last week. Denver had its its third heaviest snowstorm on record and New Mexico declared a state of emergency. Ski season off to a good start in western USA and the east is expected to get a big dump next week. h ttps://tinyurl.com/3 Wolf Creek is vastly outperforming its previous November showing. In 2023, the ski area opened on November 11th. This time last year, snow water equivalent (SWE) totals in southwestern Colorado were well below the median. Things look a little different this year. In the Upper San Juan basin—which straddles Colorado and New Mexico—SWE is at 267% of the median. South of Colorado, in New Mexico, Pajarito Mountain is also on a heroic run—the ski area has seen 44 inches of snowfall so far this winter. The early season dump allowed it to open on November 9th, marking the first time the ski area has opened before Thanksgiving in roughly 40 years. Ski Santa Fe—near Pajarito—pushe Out West, the early season action is getting underway, too. Mt. Bachelor, Oregon, announced today that it would open two weeks ahead of schedule on Friday, November 15th, after a significant helping of November snowfall. Storms are set to barrel through the Pacific Northwest this week, which could provide Mt. Bachelor—and others—further momentum. The highest reported snowfall total was 54.9 inches at a location 7 miles northwest of San Isabel, Colorado (southwest of Pueblo), the National Weather Service said. And with 20 inches of snow, Denver recorded its third-biggest November snowstorm on record, the biggest since 1983. | aleman
14/11/2024 18:42 | Just in and the mkt seems to have improved late afternoon. I finished better than I thought I would at one point, given that I'm holding KLR, albeit a small holding. So up 0.36%. The risers were DEC, HSP & III. Fallers KLR, BA.& BUT. Good evening to all. | scottishfield
14/11/2024 17:24 | +0.35% Folio, [FTSE All-Share +0.55%] Risers : AV.+4.5% and the snall caps weighed in for once. ADVT, SCLP, ENSI, DFCH, Some xd's NESF, UKW, GSK, Scattered cloud, Watnall 11C Max. Looked at one snow map , has it all happening in South Pennines and Derbyshire Peak District next week | blueliner
14/11/2024 17:20 | Orwell doesn't seem so far fetched! I finished up 0.56%. Another accident at the Dartford crossing means miles of traffic everywhere again. | skinny
14/11/2024 17:17 | -0.3% but there's an ex-dividend and my folio seems to be picking up some odd UT prices occasionally instead of bids. I've seen runs of this in the past when the market has been in fall mode but it might just be coincidence. Does this bode ill? Don't know. I do have a couple more dividends came which I will likely add tomorrow as I have no spending plans for them. I was hoping all the dividends coming in this month would add to gains but it turns out it is just helping me avoid turning negative for the year - and I have no confidence that will continue! A damp (floor) but sunny morning gave way to a wintery feeling cloudy afternoon that started mild but no longer is. 11.1C after 7.9C and now 6.9C. This already feels chilly in the greyness so I hope there's some sun with next week's cold. | aleman
14/11/2024 17:09 | Pleasant reprieve following recent onslaught, +0.90% AV., DEC & SCLP Just been having a closer look at the upcoming NI increase which that sneaky woman tries to say is only 1.2% (that's just plain deceit). Not only does it work out nearer a 30% increase to the employer, but I now realise they even charge the 15% on the entire gross salary BEFORE the forced reduction we have to pay into their pension funds. Every single thing they do is designed to squeeze the last penny out of small businesses. The woman has absolutely no clue how the real economy works, this really is going to be the last straw for many. | mrphil
14/11/2024 16:59 | Portfolio +0.78% , a full house of blue apart from SBRY xd . Top risers BP, HILS, GRG, HLN and AZN. Sunny morning but clouded over pm. Cold 12C. Out with the leaf blower again , three bags full. Planted some mixed crocus in containers. Had a local walk before it got dark. My wife is on cooking duty tonight. She's making some sort of chicken curry. I'm supplying the merlot :-) | philanderer
14/11/2024 16:56 | Up 0.15% (xd’s -0.2%) AV. only significant gainer. API (xd) MEGP biggest fallers. Feel I missed out a bit today. No news on my car yet, one of our tennis team just paid £4k to have his Porsche fixed. Great reason not to be interested in cars. | dr biotech
14/11/2024 16:45 | Up 0.13%. A mainly blue day,held back by a few large fallers, Worst fallers RR,ZOO,CPi,BA.,HAT,W | malcolm caton
14/11/2024 15:50 | Snowfall has been brought forward and into normally accurate range for Monday now. Cold is expected to stick around until month end. I'm actually now hoping we get snow and then crisp and sunny northerlies. Two weeks of wet cold does not appeal! | aleman |
