11/11/2024 09:14 | “The twist is the diesel cars are better for their owners with the defeat devices working, and if you fix them it makes them worse,” said Molden. “The devices typically allow better fuel consumption, driving power, convenience and reliability. If manufacturers are forced to remove the devices, they may need to compensate the owners.” So they want to prosecute manufacturers for making diesels more efficient? And then there's this - Trump pushing bitcoin and issuing more T-bills (which banks often use in transactions as money), which inevitably creates less demand of $s, which then fall in value and create inflation. Was it in his manifesto to undermine the $? I keep wondering whether the world has gone mad or the reporting media or both. We live in interesting times if and when the president sacks regulators: Trump promised to make the United States the “crypto capital of the planet” on the campaign trail and to create a strategic stockpile of bitcoin. He also said he would appoint financial regulators that favour digital assets, and sack the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Gary Gensler. Gensler has led the regulator’s crackdown on cryptocurrencies. | aleman
11/11/2024 08:25 | Good Morning. Thanks wllm. A bit of sun here too this morning - the first this month. Gateside - green energy, REITS, financials - in fact everything, doing for me this year. | skinny
11/11/2024 08:18 | Good morning. Sun's not out but it is bright. That's enough after the last week! Very unlikely to be accurate at this range but wowsers - it shows the whole UK under settled snow in 24th (though it does thaw quickly, anyway): Thanks, wllm. | aleman

10/11/2024 15:01 | Good afternoon, I’ll aim over the coming week to summarise my portfolio in more detail. It’s the 2nd year of a very poor performance for me. Portfolio is a mixture of: FTSE100 shares which have an international market. Renewable Energy funds that I bought for their high yield, which have seriously underperformed due to the UK being so slow at reducing interest rates. Investment Trusts, which are focused on UK and Asia. YTD sits at a very disappointing -2.5% | gateside

08/11/2024 23:11 | Everyone - thank you for the friendly welcome back, very kind of you all. Thanks too for the congratulations for my daughter's results. I'm one very proud Dad.My daughter gets up at 6.30am on school days and does an hours extra homework before school. When I was teaching, I wish my students had done that. Wllm - Thanks for the messages that you sent, it's good to finally be back here. Sorry for any concern that my absence caused. Now the trouble is, I need to calculate my portfolio YTD figures, and I can give you a heads up that I'm certainly not going to be anywhere near the top of the leaderboard! | gateside
08/11/2024 20:56 | Cycled round Loch Leven today, 12 miles in total, tried not to fall asleep this afternoon as it was hard going. Much quieter at this time of year which is nice, but, it felt cool and needed my gloves and scarf. Heating went on last week and looking at the week ahead, temperatures are expected to fall into low single figures overnight. Tennis with the ball machine tomorrow in readiness for 2 matches later in the week. Weekly figures: Best Riser: ABDN +3.35% Worst Faller: ASLI -3.20% On the Week: -0.08% YTD: +3.89% Have a nice weekend everyone, wllm :) | wllmherk
08/11/2024 20:01 | Well I've done reasonably ok today. Day up 0.32% which makes the week up 1.86% which makes the year up 5.36%. Today's best rises were CHRT 3.9% CLIG 4.28%, HSP 4.26%, MNL 3.56% Fallers BRWM -3.99% and IGP -3.5% V happy with the week . Good weekend all. s/f | scottishfield
08/11/2024 19:57 | 4/7 on the quiz. Mostly guesses. I'm down -0.660% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.840%), down -3.66% on the week (FTSE100 -3.42%) but up +8.20% YTD (FTSE100 +4.39% and HIX+3.73%). Worst falls: RIO -4.90%, S32 -4.63% and BHP -3.93%. Best rises: BT.A +2.19%, PSON +1.86% and AZN +1.93%. The miners went ito reverse after yesterday's gain. AZN bouncing back slightly. Nearly time for the rugby. Have a good weekend and keep warm. DF | deanforester
08/11/2024 18:29 | I finished sown 0.31%, -0.74% on the week and +1.73% YTD! Enjoy your weekend. | skinny
08/11/2024 18:12 | A volatile week ending up +0.05% which breaks my recent losing streak. YTD +1.58% My PSN 'top-up' was badly timed in the week but will see what they look like in 4 years time! A Divi for PSN was received today and will be re-invested next week. Good weekend all! :) | carpingtris
08/11/2024 17:38 | Tired after double hospital outpatient appt for No 1, all was ok and discharged. Today wasn't good (CLIG, BT.A advanced) (BHP, RIO, BRWM, GLEN, HSBA, big fallers) but my ADVFN folio is throwing out just -£25 for the week, so will use that as there are no dividends till month end inclusion. Save doing a spreadsheet. Share of the week will be BA. Faller of the week will be ENSI. Folio YTD therefore +7.2 the same. Day after day of gloom with the temp inching down 9C.. Keep warm all. | blueliner
08/11/2024 17:28 | Portfolio -0.96% .. Horrible day for my lot , heavy on badly hit retail , SBRY, TSCO, ABF, GRG and MKS.....bad chinese news affecting BP, SHEL and RIO. On the week -0.48%, making +3.54% YTD . Should have been in cash this year. Miserable weather as well, overcast, very dark day 13C. Painted the back of the small shed, picked up some more oak leaves and baked a tin of welsh cakes. Local walk late on. Haven't seen a soul all day. Greek lunch out tomorrow , my wife wants to see the new Paddington film . Hike on sunday. Lasagne and salad tonight Bottle of merlot. Good weekend everyone. | philanderer
08/11/2024 17:27 | Down 0.6% - SUP/VLX/KITW all fairly significant fallers, nothing worthwhile on the upside Four minimal up days followed by a significant down day means I'm down on the week though its a fairly nominal 0.1% leaving me 7.2% YTD A few years ago I decided to diversify a bit and bought so European/Japanese and EM trusts/funds but nothing from the US, which was a mistake. My japanese trust is down 27% and most of the other are also under water. The only one that isn't is up 7% over 6 years, which is hopeless. Any future investments will just be trackers - you can see why so many fund managers are in trouble when their trusts and funds underperform. FWIW the trusts are included in my weekly figures but the funds aren't. | dr biotech
08/11/2024 17:19 | -0.5%. BRWM reversing yesterday's gain of nearly 4%. YTD +1.7% after crediting another large dividend to available cash, so not a great week! 9.9C after 8.1C. It's not even bright, though no drizzle today. Shopped at SBRY. There were a few offers but also the odd price rise. I hope the murk breaks to let some folk get a little sun over the weekend. It should feel pleasant if it does. Have a good one. | aleman
08/11/2024 16:54 | Another red day, only large riser WG, and that doesn't take me anywhere near my start price, just aboit everything else red, The reality of Reeves hate of the prudent workers is begining to sink in,any firm with a large work force seems to have been hit today. ON the day -0.95% ON the week -1.07% YTD +2.45% Acouple more weeks like this and I shall be back to minus for the year. | malcolm caton
08/11/2024 16:54 | Terrible end to the week, the worst day for some time. Not sure how, but I ended the week +0.06% taking the YTD to +5.07% so I can only presume the managed funds had a good week as the individual shares were a bit of a horror show! Off to the NEC tomorrow to the classic car show. Have never been so it will be a new experience! Tennis on Sunday, first time for a few weeks. Enjoy your weekends. MrP | mrphil

08/11/2024 14:07 | Morning all. I'm enjoying the addition of the HIX to my Stockofolio screen as it seems to flatter my performance on a daily basis - for example today at 2pm. HIX - minus 1.1% IUKD - minus .8% Allshare is minus .61%. Bruciefolio - plus .18% Needless to say, I prefer to be flattered than flattened, which also happens. I also notice the HIX yields forecast 5.7% in contrast to my 10.50%. No doubt someone will put me right? In the meantime the my stable of high yielders is testing my resolve: GSF; LIO; GCP at ALTs. And heading down again - SEIT and possibly NESF. As in life, so in investing, there is generally a reason why things seem cheap; the skill lies in separating the reality from the perception. | brucie5
