13/11/2024 10:54 | Skinny, brilliant sketch! Watched an episode of Porridge last night, still has me in tears! scottishfield, I hold a few CLIG in the ISA which I bought a few years ago. Divis are reinvested so the holding is gradually increasing. | mrphil
13/11/2024 10:46 | One of the best comedy sketches ever :) | gateside
13/11/2024 10:29 | The expected cold spell has narrowed to Sunday to Thursday but it now has light snow in range for us on Sunday morning and a significant event for England out of accurate range next Thursday. Being the iffy first snow forecast of the season, I still expect to be running the touchline in cold rain on Sunday morning. So this will probably still be nothing much in the UK but remains interesting, if nothing else, because Europe looks like having an early start to winter with a significant snow event: | aleman
13/11/2024 10:20 | Yes, another nail in the coffin of the high street and the DIYer - soon there won't be any conversations like this :- | skinny
13/11/2024 10:11 | Thanks for the suggestions, I did look at the engine and the bit that is causing the issue is hard to access - both garages I spoke to said they would have to remove the bumper first. Its more than I was prepared to do myself, which tbh isn't saying a lot. My interest in cars varies from very little to zero. I couldn't tell you how old my car is without looking it up. I was given a private reg plate for my birthday many years ago and it was one of the best gifts ever, not because its something I wanted, but it would stop my inlaws telling me their car was newer than mine (they change theirs every 3 years for reasons I've never fully understood). Blue but only just this morning. | dr biotech
13/11/2024 10:05 | Morning everyone. Sunny morning and that fresh breeze has dropped. Good reaction to SMIN update. | philanderer
13/11/2024 10:01 | Seems a few here hold CLIG | scottishfield
13/11/2024 09:56 | Skinny, poor old Homebase has certainly had a tough time in recent years. They were a good customer of ours years ago. Looks like many will be incorporated under The Range. | mrphil
13/11/2024 09:46 | Good Morning. Some early sun and the washing is out - more in hope than expectation. CLIG is always a bit of a basket case - currently +1.54% on 3,966 shares traded. | skinny
13/11/2024 09:21 | CLIG reopened at an odd spread of 373/395 (after closing 390/392, as if MMs did not want it to rise because they were short of stock?) though seems to be 384/394 in actual trades. | aleman
13/11/2024 08:22 | Aleman, I've not had much luck with Baillie Gifford having had a couple of their funds which were really poor performers and I had to get shot of them. That leaves a poor taste! | mrphil
13/11/2024 08:17 | Good morning. THe sun is out to play and we have a very slight frost just on the garden shed. There's a possible technical buy here for some? BGCG have announced a 100% tender offer at NAV less expenses if they underperform their benchmark over the next 4 years. Discount was 15% but they've opened slightly up. It does not really guarantee any upside - just limits downside to benchmark underperformance plus maybe 14%.If they underperformed by 10%, the tender offer would reduce the discount so shares beat it by 4%. If they outperfromed by 1%, tender would not be activated so discount could actually expand. Bit of an odd one to call. | aleman
12/11/2024 19:49 | Light snow for The Highlands and north coast are coming into reasonably accurate range for Scotland at the weekend. (NW wind.) Still out of normally accurate range is a foot of snow for the Pennines and a couple of inches to low levels (SE/E/NE wind) across much of the North on Tuesday as a low bumps up against the cold air and moves on east. The cold is currently modelled to stick around until another inch of snow across central England brings warmer weather back the following Sunday. The first snow forecast is usually more wayward than futher into the winter so still take with a significant pinch of salt, but it is attracting more interest as it comes into range. | aleman
12/11/2024 19:48 | I'm down -1.380% on the day today (FTSE100 -1.0224%). Worst falls: VOD -8.19%, S32 -3.63% and TW. -2.36%. Only two rose: BATS +0.58% and AZN +0.05%. Smallest fall: DGE -0.04%. I thought VOD had announced that dividend cut some time ago. Obviously came as a shock to the market.Miners and oils downcast. THree loads of washing done today, but we had drizzle about 3pm, so it came in still damp. Dentist tomorrow, then a club lunch, where I am the only one of the Committee still standing. One undergoing chemo and the other with a severe cold. I have to do the speech, such as it is. DF | deanforester
12/11/2024 17:58 | I used to change alternators for fun on my first car, a Triumph Dolomite. It used to be very easy to do on most cars if access was sufficient. Unclip electric connector and loosen a couple of bolts to remove and replace, one of which tightens the drive belt to the required tension (basically so belt only twists slightly with finger and thumb.) I'd buy them from wreckers for £5-£10. I think they were about £50+ new. Probably £150 now for a modest to average car and as little as 10 mins labour if you're lucky. I learned after a while you could sometimes just change the carbon brush for pennies if it was worn out through high mileage [perhaps 70k+ average running) though that added fiddling about time. | aleman
12/11/2024 17:49 | Probably so Aleman, thanks. I just go by ADVFN's final nos. No worries. | scottishfield
12/11/2024 17:45 | Terrible day for the Bio wallet Down 1.33%, 28-2 to the reds with 8 at (or very near) their YTD lows. Special mention to ULTP who managed to hit a new low and were also my biggest value loser at the same time. Started the car to come back and it sounded dodgy, the revs were higher than normal and it made a windy/whistling sound. When I joined the motorway it sounded better but after I came off there was an unpleasant rattle, the automatic stop/start failed so I opened the bonnet to see a few sparks and some metal shavings inside the chassis. Not great. Limped the local garage and they reckon its the alternator. Can't fix it for 3 weeks, next garage said four. They are all apparently snowed under with work, one of them said that part of the problem was the covid extension to MOTs where they allowed them to go from 12-18months. That means that no one wants them done during the months when lockdown occurred but every wants them done now. Not sure what the cost will be, but not cheap. | dr biotech
12/11/2024 17:43 | I have CLIG at 390/392 after 385/395 yesterday. So mid up 1p and my portfolio up 5p since it values on bid. Looks like scottishfield has the closing uncrossing trade price of 389p. I tend to disregard UTs as they often mislead, even if they are a genuine trade. The market usually opens with the same spread in the morning, in my experience, even if the UT trade is large and well outside the closing spread | aleman
12/11/2024 17:41 | I've been out for the most part - what ever news have I missed today? I finished down 0.95%. A light drizzle currently - enough to cause chaos with local rush hour traffic. | skinny
12/11/2024 17:29 | Bruciefolio -1.3%; As against HIX -1.3% IUKD -1.6%; allshare -1.25% Largest faller ASHM followed by GSF. Only 4/29 slightly green - SNWS, TFIF, REC, VSL. | brucie5
12/11/2024 17:28 | -1.0%. Market seemed to feel worse but media seem to be cheerleading the gloomy stuff again. Is this the new mantra? (You might recall me asking why they were not reporting bad news towards the end of interest rates getting cranked up, and as just a few overhyped tech stocks were driving indices up - and still are?) The sun managed about 30 minutes in the late morning but the rest of the day felt very cold after all yesterday's sun. I'm starting to have to run hating through bits of the day. The bikes gear change looks like it might be too rusty and damaged to salvge, though I'm happy to ride in just top gear if I can stop it rattling. Might do a small test run if weather permits. 11.0C after 4.1C. | aleman
12/11/2024 17:26 | Down 0.15% here, not too bad. Risers - CNC +12%, TIME +10.48%, JUSC +2.52%. Fallers - -FCH 5.68% by far the worst. I was going fairly well until the last 2 hours & though I might break even. By the way , I too hold CLIG and got it down 1p at 389p, certainly not up. I have 3 reporting tomorrow so looking fwd to that. Good evening all. | scottishfield
12/11/2024 17:08 | MrP , snap; portfolio -1.02% NICL the only standout in my lot. AZN, DPLM and BATS just shading blue , the other twenty four red. VOD very very red followed by RIO. Sunny, fresh day 13C. That north easterly forced most of next doors oak tree leaves all over my garden , spent a few hours collecting them. Nice outside working though, wrapped up well. Had a swift local walk before it got dark. Very quiet about. Had an invite to a christmas dinner from my wife's keep fit club for the second week in december. Bangers and mash tonight with carrots , cabbage and gravy. Bottle of pinotage. | philanderer
12/11/2024 16:52 | Had a bit of a cr*p day all around so this just about takes the biscuit....-1.02% SSE, NG., FSFL and just about every other share I own! | mrphil |
