06/11/2024 20:52 | Carp, I think a 0.25% cut is pretty much baked in. With the Government's borrowing costs rising I suspect interest rates may stay higher for longer as we move into 2025. wllm :) | wllmherk
06/11/2024 18:34 | Trump bounce didnt last. ended +0.12% Best risers BA,,FEVR,ENT,OSB.NAI Worst fallers AGR,BT,MSHL,BTRW,TW, | malcolm caton
06/11/2024 18:04 | £24bn went to the B of E in compensation for selling loss-making Gilts in Q.T. in the first 6 months of the financial year. Gilts have fallen further in the last few days so the rate of compensation to the B of E for these unnecessary sales could rise even higher, so possibly £60bn for the full year, which will then see the Treasury have to borrow even more and/or tax us even more. -0.4%. BEG and FRES were significant fallers. I thought we were going to have a nice day when the sun came out this morning, but it turned back to murk after an hour or two. It did push the temperature up and feel plesant, but only briefly. I've done a load of washing of very smelly bonfire night clothes but had to dry them inside as the fire smoulders through its last bits of charred wood. 14.2C after 10.3C. | aleman
06/11/2024 17:25 | 'Perhaps our lot should be telling us where the £40bn is going.' The NHS and overtime plus consulting fees I imagine :( | carpingtris
06/11/2024 17:24 | Bit of a disaster of a day after all, -0.85% with SSE, SAE & TEK leading a raft of fallers. Maybe IHT won't be an issue after all! Need to pick up some mixed peel on the way home for the Christmas pudding! | mrphil
06/11/2024 17:14 | I finished up 0.15% MEGP/KITW/BARC/DOTD (on results)/SPEC all did well. First 3 I'm well up on but the last two I'm somewhat underwater. GSK/CREO and my REITs all fell. To add to the conversation above it seems that higher yielding shares/bonds/propert Trying to work out which companies would benefit from a Tariff war. Any UK companies that are heavily domestic focused and being crushed by large US companies? Perhaps our lot should be telling us where the £40bn is going. | dr biotech
06/11/2024 17:11 | Strange day. Portfolio -0.21% , a few gainers , MKS (on results) , HILS (US spending) , TSCO. Plenty of big fallers , DGE, AZN, HLN, RS1, SGRO and ULVR. Overcast all day, no breeze 13C. Sainsbury's this morning, busy, plenty of nectar deals . Pukka pies almost half price. :-) Stirfry chicken, noodles, crunchy veg and oyster sauce. Bottle of Tempranillo. | philanderer
06/11/2024 17:08 | +£58.14 Portfolio with the FTSE All-Share flat BA., saved the day +4.9%, helped by smallcaps ADVT, NEXN, SPEC. BHP, BT.A, PHNX, SSE, GSF, the worst fallers. At least there was a result this time. | blueliner
06/11/2024 17:05 | Well I'm up 0.5%, but saved by JGGI & III. The UK mkt is unreadable to me. I wonder when we will move on? | scottishfield
06/11/2024 17:03 | Is it BOE interest rate decision day tomorrow? Expectations if it is? | carpingtris
06/11/2024 17:01 | I finished down 0.73% - enough said! Very gloomy and still all day today @12C. | skinny
06/11/2024 16:40 | 10 year gilt @4.574%, 30 year gilt 5.03%. | skinny
06/11/2024 16:39 | I posted on other threads my concern around the increased borrowing by the Chancellor and whether debt markets would ask a higher coupon to buy Government debt, this appears to be the case. They should really look at cutting spending, I think this would ressure the bond market. My high yielding stocks such as SUPR, NESF and PHNX are taking a battering. In recent weeks my stocks seem to start the day well, but, sell off as we head into the close. The yields on some of these stocks are mouth watering.......if they can be maintained??? Another down day for my lot with my 3 largest holdings falling. wllm :) | wllmherk
06/11/2024 16:30 | Not sure where all this media information comes from that EV's aren't selling. | mrphil
06/11/2024 16:28 | Complete reversal for my lot which are actually down by as much as they were up at their peak! Utilities hammered for some reason as well as anything to do with renewable energy so it's all a bit bizarre! | mrphil
06/11/2024 16:25 | Well the US market flies on Trump and we've gone the opposite direction with Starmer... :( | carpingtris
06/11/2024 14:54 | I topped up PSN too early, lol, fairly typical for me. Well I console myself when I first brought these that they were for the Labour term as houses need to be built (that's the mantra anyway) so I've a few years yet to see what they end up looking like! Hope better than they are looking today. | carpingtris
06/11/2024 14:37 | A major hit for employers and wealth creators It was widely expected, but confirmation of an increase in employer national insurance contributions (NICs) by 1.2% from April 2025, and the reduction in the NIC threshold (from £9,100 to £5,000), will add significant costs for those looking to scale, grow, and invest in a business. The plans to further increase minimum wage rates on top of this rise in employer NICs, is a double whammy for those businesses looking to create jobs and raise wages. The increase in the higher rate of capital gains tax from 20% to 24%, and an increase in the rate of Business Asset Disposal Relief from 10% to 18%, will also be viewed as a deterrent to people looking to scale and ultimately exit a business. And with cuts to corporation tax ruled out for the rest of this parliament, there wasn’t much for business owners to take encouragement from. | mrphil
06/11/2024 14:35 | Dow Jones +1272 pts , +3% | philanderer
06/11/2024 14:32 | SAE struggling as well today so my lot not doing as well as they should be! So another big blunder by Starmer, allowing half his MP's to go and help Harris try to win the election. Where has that left us now?! So a large electrical wholesaler (good customer) has announced the closure of 17 sites across the country. Can't be certain it was all down to the budget but I suspect the NI increase could have been the final straw. | mrphil
06/11/2024 14:31 | Disgusting underperformance from the FTSE once again. A short sellers paradise. Disgraceful. | justiceforthemany
06/11/2024 13:55 | Earlier gains all but gone. The future is orange! | skinny
06/11/2024 11:49 | I went to our local fireworks display, its one of my favourite nights of the year. The mist made them less spectacular but made the sounds louder. Fortunately my cat seems unbothered despite the noise. Dismayed at Trump getting back in. He is not fit to be president, I see him being bad for Nato/UK&US trade/Environment/De 1-0 loss for Watford at Swansea, I had hoped our away form had turned but it wasn't a great watch. Up a lagging 0.7% | dr biotech |
