15/4/2024 12:34 | Does anyone know what the costs for care are actually going on?? Itemised bill? Scandalous that it can cost many thousands each month! I'd be wanting to know what it went on down to the penny! Is it a rigged market? Could someone not do a freedom of information request to find out where it all goes.. | carpingtris
15/4/2024 12:17 | MrP , that's a beauty :-) | philanderer
15/4/2024 11:00 | WE had a cloudburst earlier, repalcaed by sunshine but looking at the sky another bought of heavy rain approaches.April Showers living up to the saying. Portfolio not doing a lot, silighty red.Oils down defence stocks up. | malcolm caton
15/4/2024 10:58 | phil, lovely part of the country! We've just had a brief spell of horrendous gusts of wind, but not a lot of rain. Much more of that and we'll see some damage! Up at our woods yesterday our Bird Cherry area is looking spectacular. There is one main tree which must be around 50 feet high with flowers right to the top, and there are half a dozen or so smaller "saplings" all around it. | mrphil
15/4/2024 10:56 | Norning, thanks wllm for the standings. Earlier, trough with gusty winds/heavy rain gone through. The week doesn't look very settled. | blueliner
15/4/2024 10:30 | We've just had a prolonged horizontal deluge - absolutely foul weather. | skinny
15/4/2024 10:13 | Maybe slightly more positive news... | mrphil
15/4/2024 10:08 | Thanks for updating wllm. Aleman, the whole care home thing is a shambles and very worrying for all of us. This is also worrying | mrphil
15/4/2024 08:20 | Assessing elderly people for care, normally long term care, was the main part of my job before retiring. I sympathise with your situation Aleman, in the area where I worked the Care Homes could generally fill their beds very easily and they prioritised those that were self-funding over those that were Council funded as they could charge the self-funders more. However, if you are admitted to a Care Home for long term care on a self-funding basis and your capital eventually depletes to below the self-funding threshold you wouldn't be asked to find another care home. What the care home charges whilst your self-funding though is up to the care home and, as you correctly point out Aleman, it's a case of accept the cost or find another care home. I've edited your YTD figure MrP. Looks a very red start this morning, at least the sun is shining for once. wllm :) | wllmherk
15/4/2024 08:03 | Good morning. Heavy rain has just finished and it's looking brighter. Radar shows snow falling on high ground in Lakes/Pennines/Peak District/Snowdonia so I'm guessing it will be chilly out of the sun. Legal advice suggests a paying for a care home is treated much like renting a home. Don't like the suddenly elevated price? Then go elsewhere. After 6 years and over £500k, my mum is running out of money anyway, so will soon be at the mercy of the council care manager, like most others. It looks like we will have to resign ourselves to that and start preparing for a move and hope for sympathetic responses by the parties involved. This is all wrong. There should be some kind of insurance in place to spread risks of care costs - a bit like life expectancy risk is spread by buying an annuity. Maybe there should be a specialist care home annuity that increases payout at 20% per year or whatever actuaries decide fits the bill . Obviously it would be very expensive and you only get what you can afford to buy. Kicking people out of private care due to exhaustion of funding when their have reached an extremely vulnerable stage is not humane. | aleman
15/4/2024 07:35 | Morning All. I managed a small +0.30% gain last week. I actually mis-stated last weeks YTD which was actually +0.36% but this week I have ended +0.66% YTD which puts me back in the same position on the chart! Enjoyed Shugborough Hall on Friday, not a bad trip all around and no problem charging. We grabbed a few miles at Banbury during our brief coffee & comfort stop on the way up and that allowed us to make it back there on the return journey where we filled enough to get home whilst having a toasted sandwich! So total cost for all electric on 350 miles was about £29 which included expensive public chargers and charging from solar at work so that's just over 8p per mile. | mrphil
15/4/2024 06:54 | Good Morning. Thanks wllm - on both counts :-) | skinny

14/4/2024 21:27 | The Terriers drew 1-1 due to a late penalty given against them in the 10th minute of extra time. Wednesday and Terriers are odds on with the bookies to be the two to drop. | kiwi2007
