11/4/2024 08:17 | None of my portfolio are going ex dividend today, so I might beat the Markets for once!Good dividend increase announced from AZN this morning. | gateside
11/4/2024 08:15 | With the large driving distances in the Highlands I am not considering an EV. The infrastructure is still too limited. My Citroen C1 gets 75+ mpg which makes it's very economical. | gateside
11/4/2024 08:03 | Not sure I agree with you on EV's MrP, there is plenty of reviews out there from owners of EV's highlighting the negative's. We considered installing a charging point along with the solar panels, but, after plenty of research decided an EV wasn't for me. 4 main concerns I have, 1.Cost 2.Depreciation 3.Environmental 4.Range anxiety/charging infrastructure regarding the 3rd point, To manufacture each EV battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, 25,000 pounds of ore for copper Diging up 500,000 pounds of the earth's crust For just - one - battery. Hardly clean. Going to be a red day for me with PHNX, CSN and SERE going xd wllm :) | wllmherk
11/4/2024 07:41 | Morning All. It's a bit of a sorry tale out there at the moment. As for EV's, unfortunately we have such a fossil fuelled anti-EV propaganda war going on in this country that we have wittingly allowed the Chinese to lead the way in car manufacturing and are about to see our auto industry decimated as a result. They have embraced the change whereas we have been stuck in our old ways trying to prop up the fossil fuel industry. I guess it was the same when the car came along - I saw a great cartoon the other day of a pair of horses towing a Model T Ford out of a ditch with the caption "they will never catch on, they always run out of fuel"! Tin hat day with those xd's | mrphil
11/4/2024 07:10 | Good Morning. I've got AV., LLOY, PHNX & SERE going XD today. The forecast sun this morning has been replaced overnight by cloud and rain. What a depressing list (3) apart. The Times Top stories 1. US intelligence agencies believe that Iran or one of its Middle Eastern proxies is set to launch an imminent attack on Israel, according to reports 2. Every constituency in Britain saw a rise in sickness benefit claims last year, with Conservative areas experiencing some of the biggest increases 3. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has said she found solace in sewing, knitting and being able to choose her own clothes while she was in prison in Iran 4. Farmers are warning of a food production crisis after months of rain and storms across the UK, leaving the country heavily reliant on imports 5. The EU has voted for a sweeping reform of migration laws that lifts the rule requiring refugees to apply for asylum in the first country they enter | skinny
11/4/2024 07:06 | Morning. Bearing in mind the dows performance yesterday and the following going XD BDEV,LLOY,EMG,ITV,AV | malcolm caton
11/4/2024 00:13 | Volkswagen electric car sales plunge as Europe returns to petrol Demand for EVs falls by 24pc amid high energy prices and rollback of subsidies | philanderer
10/4/2024 23:06 | Gilts yields continued to rise slowly through the afternoon so 6 cuts in the next 12 months and 3 after is not quite as likely. It probably equates to 3 in 2024 and 5 or 6 through 2025. Keeping your same seat deadline has passed at the Bantams and season ticket sales are going badly so it looks like this season's poor atmosphere will get worse. It's hardly surprising when you send a bright young striker to Swindon and freeze out the young local midfielder who is the most exciting creative player we've seen for a few years. A spinmeister CEO can only paper over the cracks for so long. We lost £400k last year. Season ticket sales suggest a loss of more like 7 figures beckons. How will the owner get his £10m asking price now? I think he and his CEO have messed up. | aleman
10/4/2024 18:04 | Kathleen Brooks, research director at XTB said the immediate aftermath of the CPI report ‘has been a bloodbath.’ ‘The market has once again recalibrated to US rate cut expectations, and the verdict is that that first rate cut may not come until November. The market is now pricing in less than 2 rate cuts from the Fed for this year. | philanderer
10/4/2024 17:47 | Portfolio +0.15% mainly down to TSCO, SHEL and BVIC ......big faller AAL. Added a few more ROR. Bright morning clouded over after lunch and the rain arrived just after I washed the car. Warm enough and a breeze 15C. Had a quick walk late on with the umbrella but nobody was about. Wok night for the stirfry chicken, crispy veg, noodles and kung pao sauce. Plus a bottle of vino :-) Watching 'Ripley' on Netflix at the moment , very good indeed. | philanderer
10/4/2024 17:30 | Well, I was up 0.8% at lunch time, and finished down 0.34%. We had a heavy downpour a couple of hours ago and its been very windy (gusty) again. At least the daylight is stretching out. | skinny
10/4/2024 17:27 | Big swing from +1% to down -0.2% but a positive 0.3% finish. No real movers either way just more blues than reds. AV's xd tomorrow is the biggest single dividend I have, will knock off 0.3% Sold CTO at a 10% loss. | dr biotech
10/4/2024 17:16 | If I incorporated, I'd be an investment trust, yet the IMF seems to think I'm economically inactive because I don't have a job (neither in work nor looking for work), despite paying loads of tax . Also, it does not seem to think childcare is a valued activity or that old people should be allowed to retire. I don't suppose it's occurred to them that it might not be getting measuring correctly. Slash benefits to get more men into work, IMF urges Cutting benefits and taxes could help solve the global worklessness crisis by encouraging more men into jobs, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said. Tim Wallace reports: More training and childcare support would help more women into work, while higher pension ages can keep more older people in jobs. It comes amid fears Britain is being held back by the 9.25 million adults of working age who are economically inactive – those who are neither in work nor looking for work. Of these, 2.7 million are long-term sick, 2.6 million are students, 1.6 million are looking after their home or family, and 1.1 million have taken early retirement. | aleman
10/4/2024 17:09 | Ended up +0.35% a variable day. Best risers TSCO.ZOO,BGO.AVON,PL Worst fallers SAFE,RR.BDEV,OCOD. Sorry Aleman not in the market for that position :-).I'm trying for a positive result. | malcolm caton
10/4/2024 17:04 | -0.11% after being up +0.3%, [FTSE All-Share +0.31%] PLUS, HSBA, ADVT only material risers. On the downside, SREI, PHNX, JSG, Sporadic bursts of rain, Max 12C from 12C. | blueliner
10/4/2024 17:03 | I'm smashing it this week. +0.8%. AEI, DEC, PLUS and STCM all up over 2%. Anybody else fancy taking over bottom place this week? :-) :-o After 4 weeks, I managed to get the Doctor phone call dragged forward. I now get to see him in person in a week. I'm so honoured to see my GP in only 5 weeks when I've had a problem for a couple of months. Somebody should being getting the hairdrier treatment in court for managing the NHS this badly. Grey and wet afternoon after a pleasant morning. 11.3C after 2.3C. A few locals confirmed there had been a light frost overnight. | aleman
10/4/2024 16:47 | Aleman, even Blackrock Gold & General is only down by a bit on the year! Has been rubbish for the last couple of years so I don't know where they are going wrong?! Not a great day, -0.30% SSE, NG. & FUM leading the fallers. BP., DEC & TATE notable gainers today but not by enough. | mrphil
10/4/2024 15:57 | Yet another new high for gold of £1870. Interest rates down gold up, interest rates up gold up. (Down 0.3% in $s but $ has leapt 1% or more.) | aleman
10/4/2024 15:25 | Comfortably up last time I looked, now well down. And it's pouring with rain again! | mrphil
10/4/2024 14:33 | Seems an overreaction to me. Basically, the US is more sensitive to the oil price than most economies and the rise from $70 to $85 for oil in a few months has thrown CPI off a bit. Will oil continue to rise $15 every few months? Almost certainly not for any sustained period, though $100+ could easily happen in the short -term. While ever it continues to rise, rate cuts will probably be postponed - but should come if and when oil stabilises or falls back. This should be less of a problem for other developed nations that use half as much oil as the USA. Markets do love to overreact, though. Gilts now indicate 6 x 0.25% and 3 x 0.25% cuts in the next two years - not a big change since yesterday and only marginal since day before. | aleman
10/4/2024 14:26 | before I went for lunch I was up 0.6% , came back from lunch to find I'm now -0.3% . Thats why I don't bother keeping daily note of my portfolio performance and generally only record values at the end of each month. | ldavis
10/4/2024 14:22 | Now +0.2% and dow hasn't opened yet Rather than this mornings hunt the red its now a case of find the blue LOL. | malcolm caton
10/4/2024 13:58 | Dropped to +0.4% | malcolm caton
10/4/2024 13:58 | I've gone from 1% to 0.2% in 5mins. I'm surprised how little definition there is - 0.34% presumably would have been good news whereas 0.35% is bad news, given the rounding to the nearest 0.1% Perhaps this data is available to those who look deeper. | dr biotech
10/4/2024 13:53 | Dow futures drop 400 points after hotter-than-expected inflation report | philanderer |
