The SAE gain now only half what it was earlier, maybe should have sold and bought back but the spread would have taken most of it.

After a promising sunny start, winter has returned with yet more heavy rain and feeling really cold. The wind is picking up too. Local roads were already flooded earlier, it's going to be a mess out there.

Feels like we are going back into winter.

API taking a hit after the merger failed, I hedged this by holding the other party (CREI) but at the moment it looks like a down day. Briefly saw a bit on sky about how much power data centres use and it could be as high as 30% of the total electricity supply in Ireland. That sounds like madness.

Heavy rain through the night again. Front edge of Storm Nelson just arriving, starting to blow a hooley outside. The council have chosen a bad day to repair a pothole around the manhole in the road outside

Good morning. Wet overnight. Sunny now. I want some better weather. This cold of 16 days has seen little discomfort but it's been very snotty. My head has just about cleared but I still have a loose phlegmy cough that is proving annoyingly persistent even though I'm not suffering. I'm just sick of people giving me dirty looks even though I move away and cough down beneath the plentiful layers I am still having to wear in current rubbish weather. They don't see that I'm being careful but then turn around and give me daggers!

Good to see the inbreeding of dogs getting some bad press. Our friend has two dachshunds and she's always telling me not to play with them in various ways in case their backs suffer, even though they're young and want to play. It's not right. We should not be making dogs suffer for dog owner's vanity.

Up a bit again this morning. Could it be a decent week for a change?

SAE looking very good this morning and I'm now only down 30% in the SIPP and 7% in the Drawdown, but I have a fair few so today will help! Sadly already dropped a little from the high but hopefully we can hang on to a decent gain?

Finished down 0.05% Mixed day. Announced after the close that the bid for API has not passed and they will instead have a managed wind down. Thats probably going to hit me a touch tomorrow.

+0.5%. A small bounce at DEC helped. I note a run of modest rises at INCH and PLUS since the start of last week (after INCH fell in results). The better day was despite investment trusts still refusing to follow NAVs up.

Bright morning. Spotting lunch. Sunny late on. Cold wind. 12.1C after 5.2C. Washed both cars and mowed the front even though a touch damp and clogging a bit after lots of overnight drizzle. Some of our new daffs are still opening against the front wall to the North of the house. It appears the later ones are variants. Mrs A must have bought a bulb selection, so that's a pleasant surprise that makes outs different from everyone else's!

I'm up +0.701% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.013%).

Best rises: SMDS +10.23%, TATE +2.90% and AZN +2.89%.

Worst falls: KGF -1.52%, BP. -1.40% and SHEL -1.28%.

A bidding war has started for SMDS, which suits me fine. The oils were down.

Got a load of washing in this morning. Forecast said rain at 1pm, so I kept my eye open. At 11:45 a dark cloud appeared and it began to spot. I was rapidly out to the line. Mostly socks, whijh were still damp, but three pairs of trousers which were dry. Now drying or airing indoors.

I finished up 0.21%.

My 4 hour delivery window, turned out to be just that - all but 10 minutes - amazing in this age of technological advances!

I see advfn have today found time to change the background colour at the top of the screen rather than fix the myriad of reported problems with the site!

Portfolio +0.51% ...... top gainers BAG (results yesterday) , SBRY (broker upgrade), ABF and AZN ......fallers SMIN (results yesterday) , BP and SHEL with the oil price.


Rain never arrived but threatened , due through the night now , very breezy 12C .

Sainsbury's this morning very busy. Like christmas with the vegetable offers. 2KG bag spuds, bags of carrots, parsnips, swede and cabbages all 15p . Found two boxes of casserole cubed beef with yellow stickers under £4 as well.

Did some garden digging this afternoon and went for a local walk , deserted.

Sirfry chicken in the wok tonight, crunchy veg, noodles and oyster sauce and a bottle of Pinotage.

Some heavy downpours this morning but it's actually been quite pleasant all afternoon. And my lot recovered nicely and ended +0.42% thanks to SSE, SBRY & DEC

A few people off tomorrow, making the most of the long weekend. I intend to grab some time at some point.
