02/11/2005 10:41 | Directors buying at just 10% below this level (125p) you don't do that just to make 10p imo, especiallly after the stock has risen 200%! two little 1K sells and the mm's mark it down, I suspect they'd like to trigger a few more sells than that ahead of the results but are being frustrated. I also suspect theres a number of punters waiting to grab this on a tick up. CR | cockneyrebel
20/10/2005 08:39 | Yahoo must be using the historic PE from last year - 5p eps, well out of date! They have since done 12p+ eps which is also now historic. The important PE is the forward PE (where the company is going, not where it's been) and 16p+ lookis more than achievable which means a PE in single digits. In fact, come the interims investors will start to focus on the next full year eps which may well mean the forward PE for the full year ahead is something like 5 or 6 imo. CR | cockneyrebel
20/10/2005 08:35 | Thanks xdavid. So M AM is always updating the P/E to the forecast. And Yahoo is using old figures, I think I will lose Yahoo! Confusing for me who is trying to pick this stuff up. I am learning to work these figures out myself, but advice is always appreciated at this time. | graham_brown1
20/10/2005 04:38 | Graham, a PE of 28.8 on yesterdays price of 147.5 would equal 5.1p earnings (PE= price/earnings). 2004 earnings were 5p so it looks like 2004 figures they are using. In my opinion, ignore anything Yahoo says (they are always behind times) and learn to get the basics direct from the accounts - the earnings are always headlined in the accounts so it is easy to work out the last PE. "Earnings per share more than doubled to 12.7p (2004 - 5.0p)" "Earnings per share: basic 12.7p 5.0p" Earnings for 2005 were 12.7p which makes "2005 historic" PE 146/12.7= 11.5. If we are predicting that the current year (ending April 2006) earnings will be 16p then we are looking at a forecast PE of 146/16= 9.1. Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs ;-) -david | xdavid
19/10/2005 23:37 | Anyone where Yahoo gets it's P/E of 28.8 for MSI from? MnyAM shows it as 9.973 which is as at the last finals. | graham_brown1
