GKN Driveline market info

“The automotive differential market size, by value, was estimated to be USD 22.52 billion in 2018 and is projected to reach USD 30.17 billion by 2025, at a CAGR of 4.27% from 2018 to 2025.

The need of better traction on roads and fuel efficiency are key drivers for the growth of the automotive differential market. The automotive differential market has good growth opportunities amid increasing vehicle production. The growing demand for all wheel drive vehicles is also a major driver for the differential market.

The increasing demand for electric vehicles act as the major restraint for the automotive differential market. These vehicles using a pure electric powertrain system eliminates the requirement of differentials, and therefore restraining the market growth.

The automotive differential market has been segmented on the basis of drive type, differential type, aftermarket components, on highway vehicle, off highway vehicle, hybrid vehicle, and region.

Asia Oceania is estimated to be the largest market for ICE vehicles during the forecast period owing to the largest vehicle production and growing inclination towards all wheel and four wheel drives integrated vehicles in the Asian countries.

On the basis of on highway vehicle type, the passenger car market is the largest in terms of volume and value. The key factors influencing the sales of passenger cars in various countries are the increasing per capita income and improved standard of living.

In terms of differential type, the open differential market is estimated to dominate the automotive differential market in 2018. Most of the vehicles are equipped with the open differential due to its low cost, and the reason that it provides better traction on good condition roads.

AWD/4WD is estimated to be the largest as well as the fastest growing market for automotive differential, by drive type, during the forecast period. The AWD/4WD drive systems differential market is mainly driven by growing demand for SUVs, increasing demand for improved vehicle safety, stability, and enhanced driving dynamics.

The ELSD (electronically controlled limited slip differential) has the fastest growing market for ICE and hybrid vehicle owing to increased focus of automotive OEMs to replace the mechanical parts with compact electrical components for fuel-efficiency which resulted in the adoption of ELSD in mid-segment vehicles and heavy vehicles as well.

In the hybrid vehicle segment, HEVs have the largest market share in terms of value. HEVs are premium vehicles in terms of their price range and features offered, and they have higher fuel economy compared to the ICE variant of the same model. Japan is the leading country in terms of sales of hybrid vehicles owing to the presence of leading hybrid vehicle manufacturers such as Nissan and Toyota.

In the Off highway vehicle segment, agriculture tractors are the fastest growing for automotive differential owing to the rise in the global population, degradation of soil fertility and unpredictable climatic changes, increasing mechanization in the agricultural industry, lack of skilled farm labor, increasing labor cost, and increasing need for operational efficiency and profitability.

The major players in the automotive differential market are GKN (UK), Eaton (Ireland), American Axle (US), JTEKT (Japan), and Dana (US), Borgwarner (US), Linamar (Canada), Schaeffler (Germany), ZF (Germany), Continental (Germany), among others.

Currently, GKN, Dana, and ZF are the dominant players in the automotive differential market. The extensive competition in the automotive industry has led these companies to primarily focus on innovations. Mobility is becoming increasingly advanced and automated, which requires a highly complex technology, therefore, companies must focus on innovations.”

Exactly.

My nephew, who is training as an anesthetist plans to do NHS and private work and use the proceeds to buy property for rental income. He and some friends are also looking at a property in France for themselves, friends and family to use. Have offered to look after it for them!!!

Syncona near £3 today. Up 74% in 12 months.

Tournesol, you are right that they are not NHS employees but they can still pay into a defined benefit pension on generous terms. It's one of the reasons so many GPs are retiring early (they would bust the Lifetime Allowance easily if they stayed). But note although some GPs earn big money, most are on c.85-100k which is far less than someone of comparable education and experience could earn elsewhere. In the City for example that would be considered a laughable income.

Yes they are self-employed but actually get a “gold-plated” pension for NHS work. If a GP does only NHS work they get a pension for that. Retiring early by one year they lose 0.5%!!!

They is why so many retire early.

GRS: Please remember Meanwhile's issue with numbers, the truth and quite possibly his memory.

I think GPs are actually self employed rather than being employees of the NHS, so they make their own pension arrangements which will not result in an index-linked pension unless they just buy an annuity - and that of course is something any of us can do.

Hi Getting

GPs owning pharmacies seems the mean. A retired GP friend took things a bit further. Everywhere he practiced in a long career he bought a property to rent out. When he retired he sold his share in the practice and pharmacy and bought two more houses. He now has a lovely house in our village, two apartments in Bristol harbourside and has seven other houses he rents out. Plus he and his wife, a teacher, get big index-linked pensions.

Who says GPS are hard done by!!!

getting,

Please show me the post where I say my MRO holding is worth 250K.

I think you won't be able to because it isn't there. You must start reading these posts more carefully and stop making up your own figures.

Well it's still very hot and sunny here in Majorca. Spent the afternoon paddle boarding in Cala Ratjada (mainly Germans and Scandinavians) then tapas in old Alcudia (at least 50% British Home Counties).

Meanwhile - you keep forgetting you've already told the world what your MRO holding is worth, and while £250k isn't to be sniffed at, it is hardly 'a fortune' is it?!

One week's wages for Mesut Ozil!

My brother (a GP, so not a huge earner) has just sunk £300k into a pharmacy that he jointly owns with the other partners and he just mentioned it to me in passing - presumably you would think of that as a fortune?

It's all relative I suppose.

Hi Yertiz

Agreed. Syncona is powering ahead. I’m interested in Arix as they appear to have complementary investments. Artios is interesting and in the news, but Syncona has some interest via the Pioneer fund. Not sure how much.

It’s definitely an great area to be in, but very uncertain who the winners will be!!!!

B+ - Arix is an interesting proposition but possibly a year or two needed before any developments start to come to fruition. Dr Franz Humer, ex-Roche CEO, is on the board, met him a few times, he always struck me as a shrewd and highly intelligent businessman and scientist, an unusual combination few can boast of. With him on board, success can't be too far away.

Still keeping my powder dry, but Syncona seem to be doing what's right..... unfortunately for me!

I used to bank at Coutts. I don't anymore. If you want to put all your net-worth into escrow we can wager our net-worths on that if you wish. You will be the loser.

My politics are more aligned with Vince not McDonnell. I don't see why you ridicule them because the politics of right haven't delivered to the majority of people in this country over the last two decades. The whole economy is stacked on credit and a residential housing ponzi scheme that is very much starting to show cracks. Not a way to run an economy or society if you ask me.

Germany knows how to run an economy and the Little Englanders are intimidated by it and are jealous. An engineering power house of which we are not. Everything relies on smoke and mirrors 'The City'.

Average age of first time buyer - mid 30s.
Employment very low - but built on zero hour contracts and gig economy.
Defined benefit pensions - almost extinct.
NHS - crumbling but able to give Virgin Healthcare healthy profits.

You are laughing from your castle built on sand.

Let us wait and see. Tories look like a party soon to be extinct. If it wasn't for JC's poor image they would be history already.

My making of a fortune from the Nortek rights issue really eats away at you, doesn't it getting? You try to ignore it, deny it, you pretend it was much less than it was but it gets to you because you know the details are all true.

Well, if I were you I would try to brace myself, because there's another one brewing, maybe even bigger, which I'll be very pleased to tell you about when it comes to fruition, probably in the form of one of my little calculations.

Getting. Please don’t mock the afflicted. MW trolling effort is pathetic.

Have been looking at Arix to complement Syncona. Interesting business. Big difference is real expertise is in the board not the management like Syncona. But Syncona on a big 40% premium whereas Arix on 20% discount. May buy a few on hope of discount narrowing as Arix has a good portfolio, exposure to Autolus, and lots in the bank.
