By-the-way Brexit, my percentage return on the company I founded was 46,728%.

Makes your list the other day look like chicken feed. ;)

Stick that in your old fart's pipe and smoke it! :)

Minny, as so often seems to be the case, you've got it wrong again. It's not a 'predicament' - it's the opposite really, I have no 'need' to speculate but I enjoy it! In fact I absolutely love it. I did tell you this before but you seem to have short term memory loss. I like nothing better than a fairly risky investment that comes off - and I've had some really good ones in last few years in AHT, HLMA and HL amongst others. MRO fantastic too. And now PLUS. But if I were to lose a few tens of k I wouldn't be concerned in the least. That's life. What I certainly won't be doing is buying some negatively yielding bonds! I'll leave that to the chimps!

minnie, you have no idea whether we are in a position to meet our financial objectives are not. And you do not know our ages.

As it is, our investments do meet my, and my wife’s, financial objectives now and for the future. The money I invest here is ‘pin money.’

Regarding HILS, if Yertiz, and I have no idea of his financial position, invested 5 years ago he will be about 180% up to your 36%.

As we tried to explain the other day, and obviously failed, people of all ages have different risk profiles. Mine is careful for the majority of my wealth, with a bit to play with.

Your problem, if I dare to say so, is that I think you are a control freak, who wants to control everyone around you.

Investing is all about achieving long-term financial objectives. You need a certain amount of money in the future to pay for something planned/unplanned. Investing therefore is not about 'making as much money as you can', it is about 'making a sufficient/planned amount of money for a given risk'. That is why professional investors sometimes buy negatively yielding bonds: these bonds are unlikely to earn them anything, and most likely will cost them something, but it narrows the risk - sometimes measured financially as variance - so those financial objectives have a greater chance of being met.

So, I founded a business which listed which means I don't need to focus much on gain to attain my objectives: risk is of greater importance to me. That is why BAE is a great stock for my portfolio. It hasn't grown by 250% because - for me - it doesn't need to. But look, it hasn't dropped by 25% today either! LOL Who is sat pretty? I am meeting my financial objectives and are making the best risk-adjusted plans in order to meet future ones.

Yertiz, yourself and getting are obviously not in a financial position to meet your objectives because if you were you wouldn't need to - and wouldn't - speculate with your money and put it at unnecessary risk. One has to ask why - at your ages - you are in the predicament of having to speculate on the stock market: it is a moron's game, for kids and immatures.

Agree. HILS is a good company. Has been for a long time. Results not desperate so over sold I think. Lots of stop losses kicking in. Still may take a while to get back. Until today up 250% over 5 years. Even with the drop much better than the likes of BAE, etc.

Interesting post on Advfn which suggests that HILS’s expectation management is at fault. Should have promised less. Better to under promise and over deliver?

B+, H&S have had the stuffing knocked out of them. Still oversold (more so this pm) IMHO, but there are two trains of thought here - one is that there will be another profit warning later this year with no recovery, the other is that the 2nd half will improve profitability and outlook, I think this is the more likely scenario.

I didn't see this coming, like most PI's we don't get to see the complete story, so I guess I'll try to grin and bear the losses for today and hope H2 does improve. I'm in no rush to sell, nor to buy either!

At least NMC, Melrose, Ashtead and Plus 500 are keeping their heads well above the waterline.

When Dana said the GKN deal wasn’t really important to the company I didn’t really believe them. Then in July

“Dana Inc. has agreed to purchase the driveline business of the Swiss technology and engineering firm Oerlikon for the equivalent of $600 million.

The deal, announced Monday, is Dana’s second acquisition in a little more than a month. In late June, the Maumee-based firm announced it had purchased a majority stake in TM4, a Canadian company that makes electric and hybrid powertrain systems.”

It was always a bad deal for GKN, IN MY OPINION OF COURSE!!!

B+, good entry point today in Plus500 - it surged another 4% yesterday, and now going again today. Interesting how many posters called this to hit £20 in this sort of timescale, and it has just sailed past £20 and heading higher. And still on a tiny PE...

Hi Yertiz

I agree that it’s overdone. Peel Hunt have put HS under review so that may keep the price down. Will keep watching today.

Since its cooler today I have rummaged through my wardrobe and discovered an old cravat I can use while painting. Green and red - a bit faded.

When I’ve finished will go to my book of quotations for inspiration for my next post!!!

Ps. Forgot to say, found my school boater while rummaging.

That stung! Not a great first half of the year but plenty to come in the 2nd half. I’d suggest the fall is overdone (but as a holder I would say that, wouldn’t I?). Whether this is a good entry point for Hill and Smith remains to be seen, hindsight is a wonderful gift in investment!!

PATENT WIN FOR GKN. This win is very important for Driveline.

JTEKT unsuccessfully challenged many of GKN Automotive’s patent claims before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in 2015 relating to U.S. Patent No. 8,215,440. However, the PTAB confirmed the validity of key patent claims in the 2017 decision that are instrumental to GKN Automotive’s all-wheel drive Twinster® technology.

The appeals court, in a precedential opinion, ruled that JTEKT does not have standing for an appeal to challenge the PTAB decision. The patent issued in 2012 covers technology involving drivelines switchable between a four-wheel mode and a two-wheel mode.

“We are thrilled with the outcome of this matter,” stated Jennifer M. Brumbaugh, Deputy Director of Intellectual Property on behalf of GKN Automotive Ltd. “The ’440 patent is one key item of a suite of patents and intellectual property rights worldwide that protect our Twinster technology. GKN Automotive will continue to defend its intellectual property and leverage our patent rights to maintain our market-leading position in all-wheel drive and electric mobility technologies.”
