Got it in one, Meanwhile. I've thought the same ever since Band Aid. I remember during that concert seeing what I knew was Phil Collins flying overhead in a helicopter from one venue to another in London and wondering how much that cost.......... I only give to established charities.

Sadly we live in an age which worships celebrity and they can do no wrong in the eyes of a gullible public.

Eddie Izzard and Ewan McGregor have entertained a lot of people for some time and have earned many millions as a result. McGregor, for example, owns a large mansion in Los Angeles, next to that last owned by Marilyn Monroe.
Good luck to them for their efforts & rewards.

But it's this time of year, and I suppose also 'Children in Need' time earlier in the year, that they appear on the TV begging for us to send a few quid to UNICEF or other charity.

I feel there's something not quite right here, living in an LA mansion but asking us for a few quid for UNICEF. We don't know if they contribute a lot of their own cash to the charities they act for but maybe if they had an additional quick whip round among themselves, they could raise just as much cash in short time and spare us the barrage of begging adverts.

Getting, menu sounds great.

My lovely sister in law, cooked a gorgeous paprika beef casserole. Brother in law whipped up apple and blackberry (both from his orchard) crumble served with artisan ice cream. Cheese was award winning Tunworth which is local to here in Hampshire. A good Merlot with the casserole and Prosecco with pudding and cheese.

Nephew watched a short video on The Chimp Paradox. I told him about our Alpha Wolf. He says he sounds very unsavoury.

Apologies MW, I should have mentioned the amazing pan-fried loin of venison with salsify mash and caramel jus. I had a Wiper & True Milkshake Stout which was quite exceptional. I have no idea where most of the cheese was from but I know one was 'Black Bomber' from Wales. Is that better? No nieces or nephews involved I'm afraid. But our waitress was Miss Albania 1998!

The point I was making was that if you only read the negative doom and gloom on the BBC and Ch4, you would assume that the economy is going down the pan. That is absolutely not what I'm seeing and I've been in central London, York, Swindon, Glasgow and Dundee in the last few months. Friends report similar buoyancy in Birmingham, Sheffield, Doncaster and Exeter. The press seem fixated on a few Jamie's Italians and Indian restaurants shutting down. But why aren't they reporting the surge in sushi bars, independent coffee shops, micro-breweries, Turkish restaurants and craft beer pubs?

By the way, getting, that's a reasonable start in your temporary role handed down by your master, brexit, as the stand-in bragster & boaster while he's away.
May I say though, that brexit would have given a bit more detail of the food & wine, the meat served, its rareness, gravies & sauces, number of wine bottles consumed etc. He would probably have woven a nephew or niece in there somewhere also.

But a reasonably good start, well done.

Sounds like the Barnsley lads were in control £889 , your friend must remember the Brooklands Days, he got off cheap. Not connected with SWFC I hope.

Getting

That’s cheap. Giles Coren, writing in The Times last weekend went to Casa Cruz in W11 with 4 others, total 5, and paid £1010.97. He scored it 3/10 for cooking and likewise for service. On expenses of course.

Guildford today, chain restaurants were queuing out onto the pavement. Nando’s, Wagamama, etc all heaving. Not my choices but obviously no shortage of cash. Stores also heaving.

Well this has got busy on here! I've just had a tough day at work in a rather good restaurant in Picadilly. 8 friends from all corners of UK. Bill came to £889. Minerve will appreciate what happened next. My friend from Barnsley insisted he paid the lot. Had a great year with his business that is going from strength to strength. I asked him if Brexit was a threat and he said something along lines of 'whaaa lad?? 'aats opportunity t'make munnnnyy, worrss wrong wiyyuu laaaad?'. By the way, central London was busier than I've ever seen it, couldn't even get in some pubs near Carnaby St, queues outside restaurants and some shops including Liberty's, Ralph Lauren, Boss etc

Chiefs . After last weeks demolition of your Gloucester team they’re on a roll. OK, not so much a demolition as a solid victory, really good game though. I refuse to entertain the fool Minerve, such an imbecile, poor little lamb, lol.

Poor old Brexit, he hasn't got the IQ to compete with me so he wants to meet-up to carry out his neanderthalic tendancies. Isn't that what Little Englanders do? I guess so. LOL

No agreement to meet to take the cast. Coward.

What do you want to cook? Sommelier, sorry, not me. I know what I like to drink which is good enough for me. Not plonk but not terribly expensive. After all, it goes in one end, makes me feel good, then comes out the other end. Mind you, some people are wine snobs, eg. Cristal champagne!!!
