02/12/2018 13:38 | Sort of spoilt my Friday night at the pub listening to a GKN employee telling me how he sold his shares prior to the takeover. Was there any value in the Fokker acquisition apart from securing the supply chain, said not. I don't think the bonus paid was particularly good PR looking at the S P. as the Mail puts the directors in the same bracket as Sir Shifty Green. I am offside with MRO and faced with "sell" when I hit stops or break a rule that I "add" to the offside position. I should stop calling it a rule as I keep breaking it. My City Broker friend who has a smaller boat than I have tells me 2019 is going to be a year for manufacturing companies that have tangible assets and who produce profits, in essence he is being a Prophet, pardon the pun. First Sunday in Advent start of the Church,s year. Tyson Fury is a bit like the son in law "Turned out better than expected" I thought after such a lay off he would be slaughtered. | jackdaw4243
02/12/2018 11:06 | Jackdaw Yes the Cirencester area is beautiful, and Cirencester itself is better now than 20 years ago. Have been shooting twice, watched polo once. Rugby (number 8) was my game together with cricket (still play occasionally). Yes, lots of well connected people. But I live in the Severn Vale (hunting country and cider here) and not the Cotswolds so have little connection with celebrities or the great and the good. Prefer family and close friends. | brexitplus
02/12/2018 09:43 | Great part of the country for shooting and Polo nice farms owned by some very well connected people, lucky you. | jackdaw4243
01/12/2018 22:08 | Jackdaw Never seen Liz in the flesh, but once saw Hugh Grant playing golf on Stinchcombe golf course. He had a huge pile just below. She was probably a frequent visitor!!! My favourite church in the Ampney group is Ampney St Mary, small and all on its own. You can feel what it was like in medieval times. Haven’t visited for a long time. I’ve always been interested in church and railway architecture. And yes, I love steam trains!!! Real engineering. | brexitplus
01/12/2018 21:12 | B+ Liz likes to be famous, I do the little church at Ampney Cru. on the odd occasion with friends. | jackdaw4243
01/12/2018 20:19 | Meanwhile, maybe one of your hvs posts is what we need to lighten the mood!? | gettingrichslow
01/12/2018 19:22 | Getting “Hedge funds have shorted more than £100m worth of shares in government contractors over the last three months, as they hope to cash in on turmoil in the sector in the wake of Carillion’s collapse earlier this year. The likes of Marshall Wace, GLG Partners, Polar Capital and Brightsphere have been taking big bets against the industry, and are now shorting around £380m worth of shares in outsourced services and construction companies.” | brexitplus
01/12/2018 18:26 | Jackdaw Re Hedge. Impressive, isn’t it. We walk in the park sometimes. I believe it’s called The Village Pub. Have passed through but never drunk or eaten there. Yes, I believe celebrities go there. Liz Hurley lives nearby I think. | brexitplus
01/12/2018 18:19 | B + Can you get that guy to cut his hedge when you are in Cirencester. Nice pub at Barnsley if you want to mix with the great and the good. | jackdaw4243
01/12/2018 17:09 | Yertiz Gloucester win - we’re coming to get yer Although perhaps not this season!!! | brexitplus
01/12/2018 16:23 | I believe he posted “Never try to catch a falling knife” once. Kier could be that knife!!!! | brexitplus
01/12/2018 16:07 | B+, yes you're right, as if anyone is waiting for him to give them the nod on BUR given his recent track record! And don't forget, share price falls are good and rises are bad! FartLogicTM 😂😂 | gettingrichslow
01/12/2018 16:03 | Getting Christmas celebrations started today. A whole month plus the first few days of January until Twelth Night of fun, fun, fun. The Christmas mugs came out for tea this morning, both Advent calendars opened, Christmas music on Classic FM, and a venison casserole underway for the first of four family get-togethers next weekend (plus others with friends). This first event has been going on for 30 years, except when we were in Singapore. Also organised are several Carol Concerts, including a brilliant one in Tewkesbury Abbey, Church on Christmas morning, and something in Winchester. Turkey is ordered, wine cellar full (only a small but quality one), cards to be written, and our “Works Christmas Lunch” to book, probably at Cote Brasserie in Cirencester (certainly not Bill’s). And finally, several Maigret books to read plus the new Andrew Roberts Churchill (my hero) biography, which by all accounts is excellent (ordered from Santa). You don’t believe in Santa, shame!!! | brexitplus
01/12/2018 14:17 | PFG is looking good. Held up well during the last couple of weeks. Personal credit markets doing well and impairments well in control. Forward yield only about 9%. Woodford is right on many stocks. His problem is the size of his fund. It means his timing has to be way early in the cycle which leaves him exposed to tail-end bad news. I feel sorry for him because he is a good investor. Way better than getting, yertiz and brexit will ever be. The Fun Boy Three - This town, is nothing but a chimp town! LOL | minerve
01/12/2018 14:13 | "Don't forget, Minerve will say when. Such arrogance." Yeah, but I told you turnips that it most likely would fall, and I gave the rationale why, and guess what, it did! If I buy back in, I'm about 30% ahead of those that held. Minerve will say when! | minerve
01/12/2018 13:30 | Getting, PFG is another great Woodford investment. He really does pick them. And sold AJ Bell earlier this year prior to the announcement that it is going to float. Glad I sold out of Woodford when I had my profit. On the Burford board, of which I am a holder, don’t you just love Zimmer’s regular post of “Don't forget, Minerve will say when”. Such arrogance. | brexitplus
01/12/2018 13:08 | You seem very defensive about this, fart? Could it be that you're sensing you're chasing a lost cause? So you're having a Woodford-eque run...so what? Get over it and man up. And stop stalking this MRO board!! | gettingrichslow
01/12/2018 12:17 | "Kier operates in a low-margin sector, Kumar said" F%ck me! Never! Does it really? LOL | minerve
01/12/2018 12:11 | Vikram Kumar is a very smart cookie. Highly analytical. Went to Cambridge then UBS. Not Pontyprid Poly then Bills!! Naive punters in these sorts of situations tend to lose everything... | gettingrichslow
01/12/2018 12:04 | Getting, from the Sohn hedge fund conference on Thursday The only short idea at the 2018 Sohn event was also the most popular short in the FTSE All-Share Index, according to data compiled by IHS Markit. It came from Kuvari Partners LLP investment chief Vikram Kumar, who recommended betting against construction company Kier Group Plc. Any declines would be on top of the 30 percent slide the U.K. company has already suffered this year, which puts it in the bottom 35 performers of the FTSE 250 index. Kier shares have 50% downside risk, Kuvari’s Kumar said The company risks having to raise equity, its free cash-flow target looks “unachievable& Kier operates in a low-margin sector, Kumar said | brexitplus |
