Yertiz, I don't know if you spotted it but the self-declared 'professional investor' also announced he'd flogged all his JMAT shares, then the very next day they soared 13%! Then after 5 more straight days of AA falls, he declared he'd sold them a few days earlier! Errrr...right, it's called not having the balls to admit you got it massively wrong!

Yes, Minerve, they are going nowhere just now and, as the Daily Mail states, this is taking the gloss off the reputation of the bosses. Everything else in the Mail article is just selectively negative. But they've never liked Melrose, and possibly for the understandable reasons of their asset stripping reputation and the greed of the bosses.

Nortek has been an apparent disappointment by old Melrose standards. 6-9 months after the GKN takeover and the previous acquisition is still there. Maybe it reminds investors of the FKI residue Brush, still on the books after 10 years.

I don't agree with ryelodge (who is a different person to me) that they need some improved public relations; they've never needed that before and I think they just need to dispose of at least some big bits of Nortek at a good price, to get the old system going again.

B+, like you I'm not worried about Melrose in the slightest. I'm confident they'll sort out GKN in a few years or so, I'm in no hurry. I sense Meanwhile will have another 'wobble' soon as he watches his one and only serious investment move up and down. Four hour lunch in York was great fun, and enjoyed the train back. London today. Working from home tomorrow. Paris next week!

Daily mail against GKN takeover from day 1. It was the DM that first mentioned cannonballs!!! They published an absolute load of rubbish. Not serious financial journalism. Ignore.

Melrose definitely off the Christmas Party list at the Daily Mail, the multi million pound bonus criticised and the GKN deal called into question over two pages. I am pleasantly surprised that the share price has held up. I think the G M closures may have also impacted on the disposal of some assets.

Has anyone read

THE CHIMP PARADOX: The Acclaimed Mind Management Programme to Help You Achieve Success, Confidence and Happiness. By Prof Steve Peters (author)

Apparently everyone has an inner chimp. Yes, everyone!!!

“The Chimp is the emotional machine that we ALL possess. It thinks independently from us and can make decisions.”

So when someone (no names) calls you a ‘chimp’, consider it a compliment, always knowing that person is a ‘chimp’ too.

I'm not sure about the Welsh and wanting them to leave the United Kingdom.

They are credited with inventing the first contraceptive, using part of a sheep,s intestine.

The British modified and improved it by removing it from the sheep. :-)

I understand Barack Obama is a keen golfer. Just looked him up and apparently he played 306 rounds while in office. And of course Trump has his own golf courses!!!

Very funny. Do you think we could get rid of Wales and the Welsh? Or are there no takers.

By the way, you said about youngsters playing not golf, my nephew who has just gone to a top university to study physics is no mean golfer, cricketer and tennis player. And he’s a lovely lad.

As Mrs May does her charm offensive I had this E-Mail from a City friend

"The rumours circling about backroom Brussels deals on ceding sovereignty of Gibraltar to Spain won’t help placate the legions of gammon.

My mole in Brussels says its actually more serious - apparently the Danes are demanding they get East Anglia, the French want the Channel Islands and have put in a claim for a large swathe of Chelsea, while the Irish will receive the North and most of the Scottish Islands.

Norway is getting Shetland and Orkney (although no one seems particularly bothered they aren’t even in the EU!) The Germans are claiming the North Sea on the basis the Shipping Forecast refers to the German Bight. The Swedes were offered York, but after thinking about it, politely declined. No one knows who gets North or South Utsire.

Sweet Rockall I think."

Off Topic sorry

I did read someplace that young people are not as keen on playing cricket, similar situation with golf.

Those were the days when the County Championship was strong and players became good by playing. Trueman 800+ overs in a season, Wardle 1200+ overs.

Today there is hardly any cricket during the real summer (it’s mainly what I call pub cricket) there is no real opportunity to develop skills. Moeen only 200+ first class overs.

Surrey appear to be forming the core of the current England team with Burns, Pope, Foakes and Curran in (and out) of the side.

Yes, jackdaw, potted meat, this was my dad's favourite for sandwiches, or ham with a huge band of fat. Of course fat was a key ingredient of the diet then, and yet fewer people were overweight.
I recall a 'Letter from America' from the journalist Alistair Cooke where he talked about the healthy eating trend sweeping through the USA at that time (this was probably in the 1980s). He had interviewed the oldest man in America, aged 116 or thereabouts, and when asked for his secret of long life, the man said he'd always been careful what he ate and had kept his diet to 'strictly fried foods'.

Rover, the dog, seems to have stirred the board into some discussion today so I think I'll ask it to contribute again on occasions.

Just a fact, Off topic

it would appear we always have a good England team when there is a good Yorkshire team for example . Willie Watson,Johnny Wardle,Len Hutton,Normand Yardley, F S Trueman and and deep pockets Boycott. Not sure about the Giant of the game Herbert Sutcliffe, thay all played for a few quid a game, the players that that is, Gentlemen got nothing or as they say "Nowt".
