01/12/2018 20:22 | Riots today in Paris, populist movements on the increase in the EU, the same EU that the elite establishment, the architects of project fear, May, Hammond, Carney et al are trying to brainwash us into thinking we must stay shackled to. Not long to wait now till end March. The people aren't stupid, they know what's happening and democracy will prevail. Soon there will be no more threats from Tusk, and Barnier and Juncker will be a distant memory. We will be free, we will prosper, this country is great and there are no limits to what we can achieve.....all we need to do is believe in ourselves and ignore those who talk the country down. | cheshire pete

One-third of 18-year-old university applicants get unconditional offer Rise in England, Wales and Northern Ireland fuels debate over student recruitment Richard Adams Education editor Thu 29 Nov 2018 00.01 GMT One in three 18-year-olds applying for university places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland this year received some form of unconditional offer, figures show, sparking fresh debate about student recruitment and the effects of separating offers from A-level grades. A report by the Ucas admissions agency revealed that open unconditional offers continued to rise this year, from 3,000 in 2013 to 68,000, and reached 87,500 when combined with offers that became unconditional when a student made that university their firm choice. Combining the two forms of unconditional offers means 34% of 18-year-olds applying through Ucas received an offer from one of the five universities they had selected. More: | maxk

01/12/2018 17:27 | "I compete with fund managers not individuals with illusions of grandeur." LOL | minerve
01/12/2018 17:07 | Alphorn..buy and sell is an idiom, I compete with fund managers not individuals with illusions of grandeur. I have no need to boast. Bargain, I like your little snipes at me, they are sometimes quite funny. I don't have an inferiority complex which is a psychological impediment. It is very predominent among Scots. | jacko07
01/12/2018 16:33 | Bargainbob - no, not at all interesting - assumptions so far ahead are worthless, even if it said that Brexit would boost the economy by a similar amount. But then Brexiteers don't give out worthless assumptions 15 years into the future. Now THAT's interesting. | poikka

01/12/2018 15:21 | Not one of your best posts Jack. Who really cares who could buy out who? You obviously do otherwise you would not make any comment. It is of interest what individual posters have invested in; even better when arguments are given as to why. This is an investment forum. | alphorn
01/12/2018 14:57 | Jacko I have a feeling will not be happy over Brexit shortly , the Tories are a predictable bunch and easily bought . | bargainbob
01/12/2018 14:16 | Jacko, I'm certain posters' families need not be drawn into these debates. It's rude and beneath you. | patientcapital

01/12/2018 13:25 | "At which point will you admit that your judgement was wrong? In a month, a year, 10 years?" They will NEVER admit it Alphorn. Their whole life is built on excuses, ducking and diving, and blaming somebody else. That is why I know for sure they have mediocre lifestyles at best. True leaders and winners take responsibility, own up to their own mistakes, learn from them, and move forward. Chimps stay chimps in CHIMP LIFE. | minerve
01/12/2018 13:10 | #226. Studies show that individuals lighter on the IQ surround themselves with better teams and accomplish the most. High IQ individuals often meddle and accomplish less. (Trump may be an exception - time will tell. It may just be the social media available today). | alphorn
01/12/2018 13:01 | Poikka - "instead of facing facts.....and endless etc etc" At which point will you admit that your judgement was wrong? In a month, a year, 10 years? Or will you just blame someone/something else. Perhaps the weather, the wrong type of leaves? | alphorn
