09/4/2024 07:48 | Barclays launches legal challenge over motor finance claim Barclays is launching a legal challenge against the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) over a ruling that it unfairly paid commission to a car finance broker, Sky News’ Mark Kleinman first reported. In January, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced it was launching a probe into historic commission arrangements dating back to 2007, when the FOS first started overseeing the practice. Analysts at investment bank RBC said the motor finance industry could be on the hook for up to some £16bn. The high street banking giant’s legal challenge centres on the case of a single customer, known only as Miss L, but signals growing unease in the banking sector over the size of the potential compensation repayments. Miss L was not made aware that a loan agreement she took also included a commission payment worth almost £1,600. The case was highlighted by the FCA following its investigation launch. Early this year, RBC analysts predicted that Barclays, which provided motor lending between 2010 and 2019, could face up to £250m in compensation payments. However, Lloyds is expected to bear the brunt of the potential fallout, with RBC forecasting £2bn in potential payouts. In its annual results in February, Lloyds Banking Group made a £450m provision for potential compensation. | johnwise

08/4/2024 20:39 | HEZBOLLAH SHELLS ISRAELI AIR DEFENSE HQ, MISSILE & ARTILLERY BASES IN GOLAN HEIGHTS (VIDEO) Support SouthFront Hezbollah announced on April 7 that it had fired a salvo of “Katyusha&rdqu In a statement, the group said that the rocket attack targeted the headquarters of the IDF’s air and missile defense command in the Keila barracks and the missile and artillery base in the settlement of Yoav. Hebrew media reported material damage, but no losses. The IDF launched a series of strikes against air defense sites of Hezbollah in the Baalbek district in Beqaa, more than 100 kilometers away from the border, in the early morning after the group shot down a Hermes 900 combat drone using an anti-aircraft missile. The attack on the Israeli military sites in Golan was not the only one announced by Hezbollah during the day. Hezbolalh fighters shelled a newly-established artillery position of the IDF near the al-Manara site on the border with Lebanon, the group announced in a separate statement, noting that the attack was carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in Gaza. The IDF responded to Hezbollah’s recent attacks by launching several strikes against southern Lebanon, the heartland of the group. Launch sites used in the attack on the Golan were shelled in the towns of Kawkaba and Mays al-Jabal, according to the IDF. Israeli fighter jets also carried out strikes on a military compound belonging to Hezbollah’s elite Radwan force in the town of Khiam. The IDF said that the compound included seven buildings used by the group. It also reported a strike against a command center of the group in the town of Toura. Lebanese media didn’t report any civilian casualties and Hezbollah didn’t announce any losses as a result of recent Israeli strikes. The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip. So far, the border clashes have resulted in eight civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 253 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 70 civilians. Support SouthFront | stonedyou

08/4/2024 20:37 | SIR Your report ("Tories accused of blocking 'true blues'", April 6) makes crystal clear what those in charge of the Conservative Party are doing. However they dress up their policies, it is obvious that they are moving away from genuine Conservative values towards a centrist or even, dare I say it, woke-Leftist position. Do they not understand that this is political suicide, because grassroots members, good councillors and natural Tory voters no longer align with them? Such people are not leaving the party. The party is leaving them. Christopher Hunt Swanley, KentDaily Telegraph | xxxxxy

08/4/2024 16:18 | In Conversation at Pay360: Watch Lloyds Bank and CoBa Technology Discuss New Partnership At this year’s PAY360 conference held at London’s Excel – one of the largest payment events of the year in the UK – more than 5,000 payment and finance professionals from around the globe gathered to network and share insights on the hot topics in the industry. The Fintech Times took the opportunity to catch up with Lloyds Bank and fast-growing fintech CoBa Technology – a cloud-hosted platform that seamlessly connects banks and businesses – to learn more about their recent collaboration. Robin Scher, head of fintech investment at Lloyds Banking Group and Tom Stoddart, head of market sales at Lloyds Banking Group, were joined by Carl Hasty, CEO and co-founder of CoBa, to discuss their partnership as well as how they are collaborating to enable clients to digitally manage their banking needs through automation and workflow connections. Investing in startups According to Scher, Lloyd’s created a £50million fund internally to invest in early-stage fintech startups in order to “reduce the cost of change or increase the pace of change”. He explained why that included CoBa: “One of the things we look for and we absolutely love is great founders with real vision and an ability to execute. We look at the product-market fit as well, something that we think is going to work in the market. We also invest in things that we are going to learn from, that will innovate with us and partner with us in a true partnership fashion.” In agreement, Stoddart added: “We look for an aligned philosophy particularly with the purpose that we have as an organisation. An alignment over goals of what looks good from a execution and delivery perspective is absolutely critical. “What we have found by working with CoBa is that as a large organisation with multiple data sources we can bring that together and hand it to CoBa who are much more nimble and agile in terms of the way that they can deliver solutions for our customers.” Hasty also added: “We focus on strategic relationships and want to work with a bank right at its core. We’re very much about bringing the bank and the client together.” To find out more about their collaboration and how the strategic partnership plans to co-create tailored solutions for clients., watch our interview below.
