Someone just made an interesting comment that somehow what has become accepted as fact is the idea that trade is something that is allowed to do someone a favour rather than the fact that trade is beneficial for all. Typical of how the political class thinks the world revolves around them

If you think bank shareholders having their divi’s held back or pensioners (one of the only groups who haven’t had payouts ie grants, furlough etc) having taken the brunt of covid-19, look what a think tank is suggesting to Rishi

Agree grahamite2, predictable enough though. Project fear has less impact with each iteration....just further discredits the BBC and SKY.

Is there the prospect of a deal worthy of the name?

Maybe there is.

The days of the dogs Juncker and Verhofstadt are gone.

Perhaps the Franco-German alliance is not what it was. Maybe nationalities in the great European Union count for much the same as they always did, not to mention history. Now there's a thing.

I feel that Germany would be quite content with a deal; after all, their position as the powerhouse of Europe is not in any doubt, now and in the future. So we have Barnier with his French interests, and Ursula with her German interests - and really not wanting to go down in history as overseeing a messy split.

FireEye hack: Cybersecurity firm says nation-state stole attacking tools

"This attack is different from the tens of thousands of incidents we have responded to throughout the years," the firm says in an SEC filing.

Major cybersecurity firm FireEye has been hit by a cyberattack, with hackers stealing its attack test tools in a targeted heist, the company said in a blog post Tuesday. CEO Kevin Mandia said the hack most likely came from a nation-state attacker.

The hack hit one of the largest cybersecurity companies in the US. FireEye has investigated prominent cyberattacks including the Equifax breach and the Democratic National Committee hack. The hackers stole FireEye's "Red Team" tools, a collection of malware and exploits used to test customers' vulnerabilities. Mandia said none of the tools was a zero-day exploit (a vulnerability that doesn't have a fix).

That media line might be mildly amusing, Cheshire Pete, but the other one - the resurrection of project fear in full flow - isn't funny at all.

A PR stunt that's all maxk, so he can say to meeja that he went the extra mile.
Let's hope he doesn't wobble if she's wearing the fishnets at dinner.

Have to laugh at lefty meeja line...we're almost there apart from fishing, competition and governance. Hasn't anyone explained to them that's what 99% of Brexit is about.

The stark truth that this exposes is that the phrase 'trade deal' is a misnomer, the reality is that this is all about sovereignty. From the beginning, it has been clear, whilst the UK wants a trade deal, EU wants to control us. Either the UK is sovereign or it is not. The British people voted to be sovereign, not semi-detached from the EU obeying their rules and their court....Ian Duncan Smith... Daily Telegraph

There wont be any rows this side of the channel, it will be mission accomplished, we'll be able to put our feet up and watch the drama unfold at Brussels & Berlin. The question is what's going to be the least damaging.....a climb down to secure a deal or the fall out and resignations which will come if they let a deal slip through their fingers.
The boot now is firmly on the other foot. I wouldn't be at all suprised if it were Brussels pleading wih Boris for a way out of this mess. If I were Boris I'd refer them to his old friend and colleague David Cameron in 2015.

They want a deal so badly.......... however I think their positions are irreconcilable. When things are so close, that is when you have a row.
