"Why wait for over 4 years"

Frustrating for those who could see the EU's game, or should I say EU politicians' game, but if the government didn't try for a trade deal, they'd be criticised by the sad excuse for an opposition and their media cronies, which wouldn't do the Tories' election chances much good.

Aside from that, it gives the UK time to conclude trade agreements elsewhere.

4 years and still arguing about the same issues, pathetic.

Nice to see we have some common ground!

It's quite simple, really. We have two groups with fundamentally different principles and standpoints that simply cannot be squared. When you get that it's time for a parting of the ways.

Exactly...if there was going to be a No Deal why wait for over 4 years...no wonder the FTSE and some of the household name shares have under performed big time compared to other western indexes..

"Brexit will see a boost for Cheddar over Brie, the Tesco boss has said as the French cheese price could rise by 40 per cent in a no-deal."

Don't get it, Mr Tesco, shouldn't you be comparing French brie with Somerset Brie? Credibility issue, or maybe I missed something.

A small benefit to the UK, and the environment will be that yoghurt will no longer be transported to the continent for packaging and then shipped back again to our shops. What craziness was that.

So, yes, many opportunities for increased production in the UK.

Too much talk of trade.
financial services are just as important.

A two way trade and services war could develop, similar to the American 'buy American First' Policy.

It will take years for this to become clear.

At the end of it all there will be more general elections, (here and all over the EU).
The public a fickle and soon change their minds, particularly if many face hardship.
Democracy has always been messy, to work well it needs an intelligent electorate.

Fat chance.

Liam Fox and Dominic Raab Talking today.
It sounds to me as though they are preparing everyone for a no deal announcement.

Unless it is more last minute bluffing.

FedupsouthernerPosted December 10, 2020 at 6:31 am | PermalinkIt's simple. They want us to fail and come back begging. We have never begged before so don't start now. No other country has had to give up their sovereignty so why us? Stand fast Boris and get us out. The world will see what the EU is truly like if they make life difficult for us. We already know both from past experience and the present.

Correct. But watching this is fascinating... it's like watching a cult that has been convinced to blow itself up, cheering as the explosion nears... it would be funny for people outside the cult if it weren't for the fact that they will be enveloped by the same explosion. And to stretch the metaphor to breaking point, the EU might catch a bit of shrapnel, but can then start picking up the pieces that we've given up.Apparently that's what patriotism looks like.

Pitcain Islands...Q&A | Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific PartnershipWhat is it? The CPTPP is a trade agreement involving 11 Pacific Rim countries, broadly similar to the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership being negotiated between the United States and European UnionWho is involved? The agreement is an expansion of a free trade deal already in force between Brunei, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore. Since 2008 Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and Vietnam also signed up. The United States joined in 2015, but withdrew under President Donald Trump. The CPTPP in its original form could originally be understood as a US-sponsored bid to counterbalance China's economic dominance in the Pacific region. The current CPTPP is the world's third-largest free trade area. What does it cover? The TPP requires signatories to significantly lower trade barriers; refrain from over-fishing; meet environmental protection standards; combat human trafficking; enforce anti-corruption laws; meet minimum international labour standards.A large tranche of regulations favoured by the US were removed when President Trump pulled out of the TPP.When does it come into force? Following US withdrawal, the 11 TPP nations, led by New Zealand and Japan, forged ahead with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). It was signed on 8 March 2018 and has been ratified by all signatories but Chile. Will the UK join the CPTPP? It's not impossible. The government has held exploratory talks with several members over post-Brexit membership and the UK's Pitcairn Islands territory falls within the treaty's geographic catchment area.... We're leavin' together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To Earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again?
It's the final countdown
The final countdown

The Nats are no different from Brexiteers. Every problem is because of Westminster/Brussels and the only solution is Independence/Brexit. Two peas in a pod, and equally stupid.

If you want complete sovereignty you'd need to resign from every international body, and drop every trade deal. Become like North Korea. Every agreement involves giving up a bit of sovereignty for benefits.

H Jones6 Dec 2020 11:59AMThe EUSSR has not the slightest intention of actually agreeing a deal that will restore our complete sovereignty and put us on level terms with the rest of the world, and all the visits to Brussels and further negotiations will not produce one.The EUSSR`s intention is that we shall finally crash out, struggle along for a short while, repent our (in their view) dreadful error, and come begging to be taken back on whatever onerous terms the EUSSR decides to impose to punish us for our temerity. The assume that this will also help `Pour encourager les autres ` to behave themselves and  not step out of line. All further discussions and panic visits to Brussels are a complete waste of time, the EUSSR has already decided (or, at least, France and Germany have) that we either toe THEIR line completely or we leave without a deal and come back later begging. So, tell them to get knotted, and leave, and then STAY OUT.. Shes never been popular with intelligent Scots who are prepared to get off their backsides and better themselves Scruff, she resonates with the bitter thickos like Bobster & wee ginger Dug who I'm pleased to say is recovering well after a stroke.
