10/7/2019 14:34 | Brexit was always more about selling out to the USA than leaving the EU. Farage and Johnson are in Trumps pocket. this latest incident may help tone down his subservience. The Ambassador must have known his childish comments about Trump would be leaked. Many have told us the inside of the Trump administration, including those sacked, so his information was useless. What an amateur diplomat his is, and we used to think these people were capable. | careful
10/7/2019 14:32 | Grahamite2, term used advisedly since the Royal prerogative is used nominally by the Sovereign on the Prime Minster's advice. | patientcapital

10/7/2019 13:47 | same thing...…. dont split hairs... They don't have formal ambassadors because the EU is not yet a country, but as you say he became...from 2012 "Permanent Representative to the European Union" | mr.elbee
10/7/2019 13:42 | Ambassador of US was his first post as Ambassador! But look at his establishment/ pro EU back ground. "In 2000, Darroch moved back to policy work as Director of EU Comd, and in 2003 promoted further to be Director-General, Europe. In 2004, he transferred to 10 Downing Street, as Head of the Cabinet Office European Secretariat, where he served as the Prime Minister's principal advisor on European affairs. After three years, Darroch was appointed to replace Sir John Grant in Brussels, as British Permanent Representative to the European Union in 2007 for a four-year term.[4] On 24 June 2011, it was announced that Darroch would replace Sir Peter Ricketts as National Security Advisor in January 2012, with Sir Jon Cunliffe selected as Darroch's replacement as Permanent Representative to the European Union" Overpromoted on basis of his Politics, his Pro EU stance. Wonder if he's a member of Common purpose. | crossing_the_rubicon
10/7/2019 13:35 | kmjs, All our city's have been seeing investment and regeneration over the past 15 years, however there are still many areas where there's absolutely nothing, high unemployment and little to no amenities and as such commuting for work is the only option. I suppose this story is much the same throughout the UK where everything is increasingly being centred in our largest city's. Not good in my opinion. Glad they enjoyed themselves though and as I've said, we're neither anti English or anti anything up here despite the mischief that some wish to create........ | ladeside
10/7/2019 13:32 | dannoch has gone! halleluyah! and where was the ambassador before he got the job in the States? ,I ask the clever among you. he is the first of many to walk the plank...and the BBC are producing an endless supply of Sir Humphreys to say how awful it all is! YES! | mr.elbee

10/7/2019 12:56 | These type of reports are Business as usual fo all governments, the issue here is that instead of just ignoring it Trump has made it an issue most sensible leaders just brush them off, and of course the person or persons that leaked it deserve to lose their job. | hernando2
10/7/2019 12:49 | I see Sir Kim Philby has resigned. Obviously he had to; whatever you think of his reports, the leak made it impossible for him to function. An astonishing amount of drivel talked about this. | grahamite2
10/7/2019 12:41 | LADESIDE 264347 My nephew moved to Scotland to set up home with his Scottish girlfriend and now also travels to the centre of Glasgow for work. My sister and husband have just returned from their first visit to Scotland and I was happy to hear they had very much enjoyed it. They said there appeared to be lots of money being spent on a massive regeneration of the city, so is that scale of investment being repeated in other Scottish cities/towns, or is it mainly confined to Edinburgh/Glasgow? | kmjs
10/7/2019 12:20 | Craft beers are starting to do well in the US, no surprise there! US beer manufacturers are also some of the largest aluminium recyclers in the US. A bit of trivia for you. | minerve 2
10/7/2019 12:19 | Trade deals continue..but the constant messing about and obfuscation of the likes of Grieve and co, resulting in much uncertainty, is obviously, impinging on deals getting signed. But progress is being made... Signed UK trade agreements transitioned from the EU A list of the trade and mutual recognition agreements the UK has signed with non-EU countries. | crossing_the_rubicon
10/7/2019 12:17 | Who SAID "“Our first object is the consolidation of the British Commonwealth. Our second, the fraternal association of the English-speaking world. Our third, a united Europe, to which we are a separate, closely and specially-related ally and friend. 10/7/2019 12:15 | Trade deals are being arranged for our exit, and drugs companies still will be supplying us from the EU I also enquired about whether any companies based in the EU have indicated a wish to cancel contracts to supply the NHS with medicines in the event of us leaving on WTO terms. I am pleased to see that trade agreements have been signed with 32 countries. It is also unsurprising to see that no companies within the EU have indicated they no longer wish to supply medicines to the UK in such an event. "No cut off on medicine sales to the UK then - another project fear lie hits the tarmac!" | crossing_the_rubicon
