Initial share price reaction suggests sweenoid's interpretation MIGHT just be overly optimistic (so what's new!)

No one knows if it’s even Apple.

Yeah Apple can bring big rewards to suppliers in volume BUT it comes with some Jeopardy!

Many thanks for the various comments. Whilst I'm also hopeful that AMS's loss of this contract is not directly negative for IQE, I find it staggering that AMS can lose it so suddenly after investing such a huge sum - approx EUR 800m.

This Yole post from last year comments that "Failure of Apple’s production ramp or Samsung VD halting TV efforts could bring the industry to a halt." If whatever's happened is anything along those lines it would obviously be a concerning event. Let's hope it is indeed just a change in supplier.

I think this could be good news for IQE and my thinking is the same as Sweenoid

On the plus side, even if AMS is our customer for Apple supply on Micro LED (which is far from certain) I don’t think it’s being factored in to our paltry current year figs, imo at worse it would affect the already pie in the sky, finger in the air 3x revenues by 2027 numbers . If it does impact us then it will be indicated in any TU early to mid March.

If it’s a switch to Porotech / Micledi then ✅✅ and it could be a very good time to add…

It could also just be a further delay of using Micro LED which has had some supply chain issues and been “the next big thing” for several years…

Would be interested in any thoughts on the announcement from AMS last night of change to microLED strategy. AMS shares down over 40% this morning.

Statement says: "A cornerstone project underpinning its microLED strategy got unexpectedly cancelled today, triggering the company to re-assess its microLED strategy."

AMS were rumoured to be Apple's provider for microLED display on next generation Watch.

Is IQE likely to be in the AMS supply chain for microLED? If AMS's customer (whether Apple or not) is simply switching supplier that obviously creates a different scenario than if they are discontinuing the microLED project entirely.

We definitely won’t be seeing any mid term benefit in huge numbers of Apple glass wear being flogged. Only 200k pegged in as 2024 sales and apparently no major iteration change until 2027/28. It’s going to take this tech being untethered and in the form of normal eye wear for it to take off big time.

amt - thanks & good luck with both. BGO looks high risk to me though & illustrates exactly what I was talking about - i.e. analysts / house brokers making hopelessly inaccurate forecasts, then simply revising them massively downwards when reality hits.

From recent recommendations, SEE no, BGO no, ELSI possibly. Anyways let’s keep this thread IQE and companies relevant to it 👍

Lol much sense there. Actually there are many opportunities at the moment eg Bango.
I did average on IQE at 20p but that's just me trying to get my original stake back.

amt - the current market cap of any company bears little relation to its future share price.

With the benefit of hindsight, today's price of some shares will turn out to be hugely overvalued. Whilst others will surprise massively to the upside.

IQE's market cap is already pricing in an element of recovery (which we've yet to see). But if Americo delivers on even half his 5 year plan, the current market cap will look laughably low by 2027.

Problem is, nobody knows which companies fall into which category. Analysts are remarkably hopeless at getting this right, simply adjusting their forecasts repeatedly each time there's an unforeseen development. A few fund managers have a decent track record in picking winners. But even they make mistakes. In short, it's all an educated guessing game. Welcome to the wonderful world of stock picking/gambling!

Crosswires, you know much more about it than me. I hope you are right. IQE has a large market cap to start with so the upside is limited anyway. Its never going to be a ten bagger although I suppose if all goes well it could go up two or three fold

I took some Ensi at 59p yesterday as it’s an interesting space BUT i don’t believe the potential is similar to IQE if Americo can execute his plan.

It’s easy to be down on IQE since 2018 BUT you have to be able to reset your head as an investor sometimes, remove the baggage and see what the future may look like. It’s all about proving to the market it can deliver, no doubt there is huge opportunity for IQE with the exponential growth of CS which is about to happen.

Time will tell which is the better investment but I thought the edge computing angle was interesting enough of Ensi to see where it leads, although be sure that iit’s only similarity to ARM is that it’s fabless.

I am very happy with my Ensilica investment that somebody suggested on this BB thankyou. I think the potential is much greater than IQE.

crosswires - I don’t see much changing in the next few months, as any progress (such as it is) has already been well flagged.

Year end results tail end of March, then probably nothing of great significance until May/June. It’s mid year at the earliest before I’m expecting a slightly more upbeat outlook statement. Even then, I wouldn’t bet the house on it. But I am a BIT more hopeful.

Assuming anyone’s brave enough, still plenty of time to add between now & then (at, I suspect, a price below today’s if your timing’s right). Personally, my 12p ceiling remains, as I’ve already quite enough skin in the game even if we don’t re-visit that level.

Anyhow back to IQE, a sleepy start to the year, surely there will be some further signs of shoots of recovery soon, perhaps a TU next month. Last year March 9th saw bad news, let’s hope it’s the opposite this time round..

I’d view Ensi as a potential short term trade but perhaps not a long term bet, as we see with AIM often, the share prices of the latest flavour of the month can run up big time, and then deflate in a hurry, so maybe it’s worth viewing it as an opportunity in the short term, as it may get pushed up by AI hype

I would wait to thank anyone until you have sold and banked the profit. Ensi looks like it is in an interesting space but also like it needs plenty of money to realise the opportunity, and if it has large potential and ends up dealing with large companies it will only mean it needs to raise even more to cope sooner rather than later. At the moment it’s a tiny acorn, but who knows, always great to see new UK tech.
