Much as I would like to agree with you wendybatt you don’t really think that a future non EU country will be subsidized by EU funds do you. EU funding for EU companies. Boris & his cronies are going to cost this country a lot of opportunities but perhaps he forgot to mention that in Westminster !

if Brexit exits without a deal then so will IQE & the other UK companies mentioned in the news release. It’s in the interest of the many German firms already involved in the research project.

Yes it states further down in the article that:

"The capability will form the core of a future 150mm VCSEL prototyping capacity that will be leveraged by the consortium to work on custom VCSEL development, device-scale optimization and validation of VCSEL epitaxial materials development as a core research and manufacturing competence in the emerging CSconnected compound semiconductor cluster in South Wales."

SPTS are a capital equipment supplier to the semiconductor industry not a semiconductor device manufacturer. Therefore they may supply equipment to aid in the manufacture of vcsel modules but not manufacture vcsel modules themselves

CSC, SPTS, Cardiff and Swansea conclude high-efficiency VCSEL manufacturing project
The Compound Semiconductor Centre Ltd (CSC) of Cardiff, Wales, UK and its partners (Orbotech company SPTS Technologies Ltd, Cardiff University and Swansea University) have successfully concluded the project ‘High Efficiency Manufacturing of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs)’, which was funded by UK Government agency InnovateUK.

The project has delivered key process modules required to transition small-diameter manufacturing processes currently used for VCSELs to a high-uniformity 150mm epitaxial platform. The need for scale-up is driven by significant benefits in terms of productivity (4x more die sites in transitioning from 75mm to 150mm) and yield (a smaller ratio of edge sites to total area for larger wafer diameters) to facilitate a step change in cost reduction for VCSELs, and thus accelerate adoption in mass-market applications such as 3D imaging, proximity sensing, range-finding and light detection and ranging (LiDAR)....................

Thank you Sheep herder. You can do your own research on the companies I have mentioned. 10 years a long time but 10 months will be enough for is to hit 170p+ if not taken over and I suggest you read the article again and pay attention to words such as Design, manufacture and tools.

mhassanriaz, the journal you linked to was talking about semiconductor foundries, i.e. the ones building chips. Nothing to do with IQE. You're other points were too muddled for me to understand. But yes, the CSC news is very pertinent for the research projects and development work that will take place there. Hopefully some of those projects will result in revenue boosts to IQE within 10 years.

@Rivaldo- This is a massive news for Wales and IQE especially. Thank you for sharing.

Lets us not fear a few drops here and there everything is intact. We all get worried because of Apple lets us not forget and I will repeat again. Recent II-VI acquisitionof finisar, Lumentum and Oclaro, Fujifilm investment is Vcsels, Phillips Photonics acquistion, Sony's massive ramp in 3d, Micron inveating over $3billion in singapore is all good enough proof that there a lot more to come and its not limited to smartphones we are looking at as small and hidden as broadband to cars and aircrafts and everything in between focus is 5g, Lidar and Data centres. I shared a journal a few months back and the bottom line was that foundries will lead and control and companies will acquire and consolidate. I could go wrong as nothing is permanent and guaranteed. How will Brexit impact us I dont know what I know is we have presence in US, Taiwan and the UK that covers all. Dyor and be wise

It is only a small increase. The trend in total shorts is most definitely down. Today's action looked like shorts closing. I would expect to see a reduction next week.

Lot of jobs gone down the pan in Wales over the cancellation of the Nuclear plant on Anglesey. The UK government will be throwing a lot of money at this
Tech cluster to generate jobs / revitalize Wales.
Any idea how much IQE will qualify for out of this £1.65 bill ?
