Another little mention from me here regarding VRS and IQE. They are closely related in that they are both extremely volatile AIM shares as we well know.

VRS stole the limelight this week by soaring around 30p? to a new intra-day high and all-time high of 158p.

I think it has even surprised richardc77 who just 3-months ago after it had risen quite sharply said, "Looks like 86p was a bridge too far for today."

Due to attention being diverted from IQE to VRS, many would not have noticed that the former also had a good week by posting just ONE 'down' day out of 5 which enabled it to close on Friday, 0.2p up on the week at 103.2p.

"Not a lot", as Paul Daniels used to say [before he died that is], but it does appear to be becoming a bit more stable as it hasn't deviated much from that 103p over the past 9 weeks.

I still think IQE could become 'The New VRS', but I'm only talking share price-wise of course. All we need is a few heavy rampers [including P-D-D of course - 'the main man'?] accompanied by an army of 'gamblers' to return here.

Maybe those on VRS who have made a small fortune, will get out while the going is good and bung their gains in this 'little gem' that is 'cheap as chips under 185p'?

You know it makes sense [or is it cents?] - don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

I'm almost believing what I'm writing. I wish I had some spare money. Not to buy more here [I have gambled enough at present], but to see me through the weekend.

Must sign-off as the food bank closes at 5-PM and I need a can of beans to go with this caviar. GLA - LOL!

And it cost us 9.5%. If continued during Brexit it may negate all or most of the gains that one would expect from this innovative venture. Being prudent is as important as being clever.

placing a currency hedge also costs money - it is not cheap. What happens if Fx goes in the other direction? You incur the costs, with no benefit. Phil's team certainly looked at the currency risk, and decided against it.

Agreed. All I want is constant currency strategy so that the output and sales benefit the company and us. It could be done for us as this is a tough world of second guessing.

EG The dollar is strong with rising FED rates but Trump seeing China`s currency weak and helping its competitiveness/exports, really wants a weak dollar hence his criticism of The Fed.

From CNBC

After a few weeks of rally, the dollar is headed for its biggest weekly decline since March.
Analysts have warned that the dollar strength may come to an end soon.
IMF data suggests dollar's share of currency reserves fell in the first quarter of this year to a four-year low.

Arcadian:

Surely though, if they had hedged this year then they would have negated the positive effect of the weaker pound on the bottom line. It is a judgement call and this year, I would say they have called it right.

If we sell in foreign currencies that`s fine and a weak pound will help but they said this last month. I wrote some time ago to the then FD urging hedging but it fell on deaf ears. Such a shame when all the innovation and effort to expand output and sales is negated by the small matter of exchange rates.

Arcadian:

No need to hedge this year. The pound is considerably weaker so they will be talking about currency tailwinds.

They probably did discuss hedging but with the Brexit nonsense going on it is a safe bet for a weaker pound

Can`t see why they don`t hedge.

The Group announces that it expects to deliver revenues of approximately
GBP73m for the first half of 2018 (H1 2017: GBP70m), which was achieved
against a currency headwind of 9.5%, reflecting strong double-digit
sales growth on a constant currency basis in each of its three primary
markets.

"Desperate stuff from the DUMP SQUAD. 140 nailed on, they cannae get stock at ANY price and are HOPPING mad!!! Pass the LUBE we are going in!!!" -End-

GO BABY GO!! That's what I want to hear mad foetus! With 'Pumper-Dumper-Dave' still on the missing list, we must all sing from the same hymn sheet. It could be 'Happy Daze Are Hear Again' next Wednesday.

Not sure about '140 nailed on' - P-D-D [see above] saw 225p by LAST AGM, just a pity it turned out to be 115p.

Still, we must look forward rather than backwards and hope that it's 225p by NEXT year's AGM.

Like the Scottish accent by the way mf. Are you a canny Scot? or planning a holiday there?

Isn't 888 a gambling site? Gamblers always lose in the long run....

Funny how when we get near any sort of results publication there is an influx of short loonies on this BB shouting that the sky is about to fall in. I think that I detect sounds of desperation....

Do I think that the share price is going to rocket straight upwards from here? Probably not! But I do think that even if it drops a little in the short to medium term it will zig zag its way upwards to end up much higher in the future than it is today. I might be wrong and it might take off after the trading update next week but, in my view, there would need to be some genuine new news for that to happen. Hey did I just invent the concept of "new news"? A bit like "known knowns, known unknowns & unknown unknowns"! :-)

Just check out the Lumentum share price in recent weeks. I reckon so...

FY orders will be in the works now, all eyes to 2019 and beyond. Shorts are about to realise just how difficult it is jumping from a moving train and not losing a limb!

Just do some effing research and make your mind up. It is a world leading company in the foothills of exponential growth that has a large percentage of short positions. There are no rampers, though there are plenty of scaremongers of the "shorters are really clever" type. But FFS take responsibility for your decision

Blimey they’ve let the spazzes out on day release! 🙈

This bb has stagnated like the SP, hopefully next week there will be something worth reading/debating. Whatever way you chop it, seems more to be made long than short, but each to their own (many of these shorts are sheep, following the crowd and have no idea what IQE do, or what business is coming their way ;). That’s great as it has given many of us time to build substantial holdings at this level ;))
