I have figured it out. The shorter are taking a long term bet fingerprint ID comes back in fashion with iphone. I read 2019 finger print ID will be back on I phone (under screen tech). But it will still have face ID

IQE one of 'best placed' superconductor supply chain - Barclays

Barclays analysts consider IQE one of the "best-placed names" in the superconductor supply chain, but trimmed its target price on the Cardiff based company on Wednesday.

Barclays sees IQE as well placed for near-term growth in 3D sensing and long-term adoption of compound semiconductors, with a "leading position in epiwafers for wireless and photonics".

Despite this, analysts said they hear consistent investor concerns about IQE's competitiveness.

The AIM-listed company's late-July trading update addressed both near- and long-term fears and the Barclays analysts were "encouraged" that first-half sales are in-line with targets, full year expectations were endorsed, and that contract wins were strong in wireless and photonics.

"As for the near term, fears rose across the 3D sensing chain over the past months given worries about Apple demand," which led the analysts to reduce their price target to 170p from 210p, "not due to a fundamental change in our model, but rather to the expectation of the above concerns leading to compressed multiples for the near future".

Barclays retained confidence in its above-consensus forecasts for 2019 and 2020 and reiterated its 'overweight' rating.

Marshall's short down another 0.7% whilst Wellington up by the same amount. I can't see why Wellington would want to increase as the price isn't moving down much unless they are hoping for a small gain!

For your information:

Just closed my latest shorts as I will be away on holiday for the next 3 weeks. I will review the situation when I come back from hols.

In the meantime I wish all the longs well and hope the share price goes as high as possible in the interim.

Your sincerely,

One would presume those 'currency headwinds' from GBP strength in late 2H17 and 1H18 have now eased...

Jimboyce and Picobird:
Years ago I was involved in the lathing of contact lenses. Then it was common practice for patent holders to sit quietly, waiting and watching newbies enter the market with patent-infringing manufacturing processes until the legally-enforceable royalties due were such that the patent holder simply acquired the culprits' businesses. How happy would we be if IQE could make such a move against Apple - lol !!

Don't worry, you can be certain that if IQE are involved there will be a watertight NDA in place.

H2 guidance is known - check the trading update again. Revenue for 2018 - 40/60 was the mix I believe. The question is whether they clearly mention / confirm what the expectations are for 2019. Normally, they are pretty vague / conservative ("double digit growth") does this mean 20% or 90% in 2019...? CFO announcement could very well happen.

Old information from RNS on 24th July. Dr Drew did hint very clearly

"We are now engaged with over 20 VCSEL chip manufacturers in Asia, North America and Europe on qualifications for mobile, sensing, automotive and datacom applications. We are already fully qualified and in mass production with six of these companies and in final qualification stages with an additional six more"

H2 guidance will be massive I am sure. The icing on the cake will be a CFO in place.

Thanks for further confirmation of increasing Apple consumption of IQE tech. What I'm looking forward to reading about is detail of the applications that IQE's TEN new clients' will be using their VCSELs for.

stifel were Very bullish on IQE, just find it strange they haven’t said anything after quoting.

“Our thesis is that lurking in the Cardiff suburbs is U.K. tech’s next large-cap tech company,” Stifel analyst Lee Simpson wrote in a recent report as he started coverage of the billion-pound chip company with a buy rating. Despite the year-to-date rally, he still expects more gains as “the full extent of the future growth opportunities has yet to wholly emerge to the market.”

ams to ship VCSEL arrays for Xiaomi's face recognition feature

August 14, 2018 // By Julien Happich

ams made public that Xiaomi’s new Mi8 smartphone uses miniature infrared VCSEL arrays from the Austrian company to enable the world’s first implementation of user face recognition in a smartphone based on the Android platform.
Delivered in a 3x3x1mm package, the PMSIL VCSEL array comes as a complete flood illuminator system with integrated eye-safety interlock, offering very high optical efficiency and minimizing the drain on the phone’s battery when emitting. The device incorporates the emitter die, and a diffuser, featuring high spectral stability over temperature, and a narrow spectral width of <1nm. Its engineered beam profile can be precisely configured to the needs of specific smartphone applications..................

If I recall correctly, one of the AGM attendees posted that a move to a more senior market had been planned for 2019 prior to PR’s tragic passing, leaving the announcement of such a move now on hold. Clearly we need some form of silver bullet to alter the current trading practices we see. As a LTH myself I try to remain stoic....and patient ! GLA

maybe this is wishful thinking, but being that the earnings release was pulled forward a bit, in part due to a scheduling "conflict", which includes an investor roadshow; If the PR / IR team are going on the road to promote investment in the company, they surely must be prepared to answer / comment on questions related to the "funny" movements of the share price Maybe a move to the main market is part of their "plan"? (I am not familiar with the particulars, but various posters here have claimed there is much more transparency and "higher hurdles" re. share price manipulation compared to AIM listed companys.)

The MM's, more than anyone, will know what games are being played with the share price.

The fact that we have not seen them try to "shake the old tree" and take the price down to 90p means someone is sitting on the buy side around the £1 level.

As we have seen twice, the share price has been taken up to the 114p level and then dumped.

Great games if you have the time to play them.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Board has a strategy in place which when they unroll and reveal it, it will cause extreme pain to the shorters.

Very light volume at this time of the year. The price can easily be manipulated and little should be read into the price movement. The real test will come post results in a couple of weeks time and when volumes return to normal in Septmember.
