Given that there's 6.6p per share in cash sat in the bank with £0 borrowings that sounds, if you will excuse my bluntness, like a right old crock of sh!t.

Gentlemen,

I am paying 5% p.a. to borrow IQE for the short. The capitalisation at 107p is of the order of £850m as against tangible nav of the order of 15p per share.

I suppose the auditors are brushing up their responses for the inevitable enquiry into IQE's accounting practices.

This is a good company, without doubt, but still likely overbought. Shorters are like jackals but they are also smart and most often correct. Bide your time and wait for them to slink off.

Love to see Apple buy the company with some of their repatriated $250bln cash.
Who knows? .. comments from Tim Cook in the last 24 hours confirms they are always looking out for good businesses. IQE might not be the best at communication but you cant argue with their clever people and products.

Chessmaster:

I don't think for a moment that the hedge funds know something we don't. They are just being logical. IQE share price spiked last year like no other and 90% of the time the price that has spiked will regress to the norm (200 day moving average or whatever) so the hedge funds were just playing the odds. The are no different from bookies and many if not all are already in profit so they were right. So are we, however. It is just a matter of time.

Faith and Patience!!

Don't get this at all.

Apart from poor Apple results, what other catalyst could there be for the share price to drop much lower than it is now?

Results are due in March, but we pretty much already know how they will shape up and the forward looking statements are surely more likely to be bullish than bearish.

Its feeling like a coiled spring at the moment. One positive RNS could see this pop 30% from where it is now, IMHO.

There's always the feeling that 'the shorters know something I don't', but I can't see what that could be.

Time will tell, I'm staying in.

VCSELS have huge potential regardelss of Apple, IQE deserved a rerating back then, iphone X just made it obvious to those who wait to be spoon fed

poombear - back to the capacity thing. I think you're probably right that not all of their tools are capable of producing VCSEL wafers - there are certainly not all configured that way.

Can't recall having seen the "full capacity = $300m pa" comment, although I think I saw some sums pointing to a similar value. Depending on how steep the ramp up was in Q4 imho they may not have been too far away from that figure as a run rate by the end of the year. 2018 revenue forecasts of £178m are substantially light imho.

5G is coming much faster than people realise, work on the infrastructure in the US is being implemented right now. IQE will benefit hugely as Sweenoid has explained many times.

A couple of years back with the share price around 20p I was banging on about the photonics division growth rate and that this was not reflected in the share price based on a sum of the parts valuation where this division should be rated on a much higher PE.

Similarly 5G will transformational for current tiddler FTC ,I would advise all to find out a bit more about what they are doing

Here's a clue:

As for Sprint, it's eyeing an early 2019 rollout on millimeter wave spectrum, though that carrier is currently building out its network capacity and boosting LTE speeds with Massive MIMO, or the use of multiple transmit and receive antennas at a base station to increase capacity. That will lay the groundwork for 5G deployment in 2019.

Dare I say 5G will be MASSIVE for FTC?!!
