JW - indeed. You could almost convince yourself that IQE do not care about their investors or their share price

In todays day and age good PR is paramount, sadly the IQE board are clueless on this front.
Superb front running products but no PR !!

Galate They know from the average price of iPhones sold that the X is selling in a higher proportion of overall sales than analysts expected. I think the average price of iPhone sale was something like $30 higher than expected. So it is likely that X is selling as expected, and other models are sharply down on expectations. Which indicates that X is the future.

amt - "bias" would be relevant as a consideration if he - Cook - were expressing an opinion. But he was not. He stated that the X was currently the company's best performing phone in the current range. This is a fact, hence his happiness to go on record with such a comment.

IQE is a volume producer, dependent on volumes increasing strongly in order to justify both its ambitions and the expectations of investors. It has a number of product areas but the market is focusing on the one nearest to being or to becoming a volume line and that is presently perceived to be dependent on volume sales of the iphone X. Whatever Apples's overall results may have been, one factor that did stand out was that overall volumes of iphone sales for the present quarter, Jan-Mar, are stated to now be likely to be several million short of previous expectations. Alhough Tim Cook gave out nice warm words, the actual volume sales of each model of iphone were not given. N0-one knows, still, how the X is really doing. So there is still considerable uncertainty around IQE in the near term. The muted market reaction does not surprise me, given the very high volume of short positions still in place and the apparent large volume of shares already borrowed and held as ammunition by the shorters to push the price still lower. Sorry if this opinion clashes with the wishes of all of us to see a fast rebound in the share price but, imo, this is going to be a bit of a grind from here.

I had previously posted doubts about margins but looking back at past announcements see that I was mistaken. The margins are good and improving. I can't see the sense in being short here.

So, IQE has the quality product in a booming market. The firms that it sells to are doing well. And there are other quality products in the pipeline. Broker forecasts suggest the share price should be nearly double what it is. What, therefore, is the shorters' argument? It can only be that they think the management has made major mistakes and got its strategy and marketing very wrong. What evidence do any of us have that this is the case? I see none.

Significantly more buys than sells. Not sure MMS will be able to keep the share price down much longer!

I think it’s only “time” that will heal the IQE share price now, I have a worry about March results in that IQE are often prone to underhype everything they do, as we can see over the past months and via their website, they don’t “get” PR or marketing.

I still think £1 will hold but it will take results (bottom line and new news) to get us back up to the £1.50 level.

Yes Bocase I agree it is Murphys law chaoter 3 unfortunatley.

Need someone big or a few big pockets to buy a large chunk of shares to shake off the shorters. Or we just wait till March now waiting for positive forward looking statements. Although to what depths the shorters will have driven the price down then I don't know.

Lets see what happens now until march 14 which is quite a whike away

Maybe rather than focusing on March qrt iPhone sales, this board should be focusing on the burgeoning market for compound semiconductor wafers. At which we are just at the beginning.

amt - rather surprised by your comment. Last night Tim Cook was volubly bullish about the X’s performance to date.

Crunk:

To answer your question, IQE is all about Apple when it comes to bad new but not when it comes to good news. You should know that.

The key thing for me is that it is another confirmation that things are going very well for everyone using IQE wafers in their chips and products. The evidence is all stacking up. The only question over IQE is, in my view, over the ability of management to grow the EPS significantly, but ultimately, they cannot speed up time. I had the feeling that a lot was being underplayed in the last update: beating 150m by an unspecified amount (but presumably not much) and the tax liability were both uninspiring. But as viability grows on the 2018 numbers and current trading, the share price will react positively.

Can anyone who knows a lot more than me explain why share price so muted I don't get it. Surely apple news was not bad for IQE

That would be nice (125p close) but have suspicion the shorts won’t view anything they heard last night as good enough.

Topped up this morning. Not sure what the shorts will do from here but with a 2-5 year horizon on the majority of my investments, this is "cheap as chips" at these prices ;-)
