Agreed our 23 year old talked about it yesterday saying she can't justify the new one as it as you said looked the same and didn't give her anything she's missing with her current 7 - perhaps she's too "grown up" for her age though ! As she put it there's better things to spend her money on.

Radio 4 business section roasted Apple for lower sales as their phones are more expensive than similar phones. Oy vey !

imo Apple have just reached the stage of diminishing returns from technology advances; its not unusual.

Its not representative, but our student daughter commented that there's 'not much difference' when looking at the latest iPhone.

It all depends what advances are considered worthwhile by consumers in the end, regardless of how many of these Apple do:

All fake news media is saying now apple sold fewer i phones but profits all time high thanks to I phone X and higher asp.

Tim cook says I phone X everything they hoped for and they only started selling in November (hence sales not comparable to historic new releases).

Media is still negative but no one admits they were wrong. Sales were not 50% less. I phone X is not being discontinued. All those rumours were false.

Tim cook confirms the tech is a hit and here to stay. So that disproves all the recent media.

Fake journalists then say. Profit all time high thanks to I phone X, but i Phone X sales bad.

No mention that they only sokd for 2 months in the quater so not actually bad sales. WTF

AmtNumber of iPhones sold was down, average price of those sold was up. It looks like people are holding onto existing phones until they can trade up to an X, rather than buying 7s or 8s. Basically, people want to make the leap to the next generation of technology. All good for IQE.

Kazoom a thought came to me, after my last post yesterday. Its possible that some of the Iqe reators are not capable of producing 6" wafers, so could not be used for Vcsel production. They have been doing this for over 20 years so I expect there are some older reactors still in production. That might explain a near capacity for 6" wafers? Just a thought though.

My interpretation was that Apple results were good due to higher margins and sales price but number of iphones sold was lower than expected so not so sure this news is going to help IQE share price as much as people hope. Probably up a bit but falling away again.

Apart from the excellent Apple results Qorvo front end win IIVI and Viavi
strong growth there is also the Nokia forward statement for the recovery of the
infrastructure build out for 5G starting late this year and into 2019.This in China which is also Macom's target area.

IIVI reported strong quarter sales for 3D sensing and ramp up in production Viavi also announced strong 3D sensing sales. They expect next quarter to also be strong, followed by a weak quarter and another ramp up in 6 months time. Excellent results all round

I would be surprised if IQE does not open around 120 tmrw after Excellent I phone x news from Apple....Shorts will start closing and push the share price even higher. What ever goes down always come up....

Apple up over $5 after results (after hours). This should move IQE back up, providing the short positions were all about iPhone X.

CFO - march quater guidance. 7-9 Billion dollars above last year. 17-19 billion of growth forecast. Additional colour - I phone revenue will grow double digits. I phone sell through growth will accelerate in March quater.

I phone shipped in November rather than september. Entirity of channel feel in Q1

Oh dear, so the iphone X is a huge success. Facts getting in the way for the gamblers... Lot's of shares to buy back. Betting against a good company; not such a good idea.
