One of my increasing concerns with this share was the increasing shorts by ii. What are they to make of an ii only placing at this level? Perhaps their escape route? Buy into IQE at 140. Close their shorts and let the price rise?

If this opens anywhere near 140 tomorrow I’ll be buying more. Fantastic news and love the fact there is a globally relevant company bringing growth to Newport. Class.

It could be that a big client has made it a condition of the deal. The next 6 week's will be mental.

Must admit my stomach turned when I read the headline!

Reading the detail: A major placing for ALL the right reasons.

II's have obviously snapped them up AT MARKET PRICE, with a whole big slice of due diligence being required.

DE-GEARING a really important step for a high quality balance sheet (which was already in good shape), to be readily and fully accepted by the top echelons of customers.

Above all, I just love to read the GLOBAL TIER 1 OEM's reference:

"This placing will allow the company to de-gear and should enhance IQE's financial strength and ability to supply global Tier 1 OEMs; both existing and new customers."

Any thoughts on the wording in the rns that "IQE is enjoying material demand for it's VCSEL wafers from a leading global consumer electronics company for use in one of IT'S (my capitals) mass market consumer products.

If, as seems very likely, the company referred to is Apple, then it is apparently saying, or inferring, that IQE supply Apple directly and not via one or more of their various suppliers who we understand to be IQE's direct customers. Is this just incorrect wording, I wonder, or might Apple be buying directly from IQE and then supplying their chip manufacturers with the wafers?

It's not what we've understood so far, but if true, it would enable Apple to ensure that all VCSEL wafers are for them and their chips and not for other potential customers or uses. They will also have, and might use, their greater muscle to try and prevent price rises - more so than intermediary chip makers perhaps could.

I recall 100 Sheepherder with 5 new ones recently announced.

EDIT: Oh and additional capacity was somewhere in around 100.

Can anyone remember without me having to search back....how many reactors do they currently have and what was the capacity of Newport. Was it 100 and 100? So that 60 new reactors would be 60% on top of what they already have which is in the region of $480m in revenue within 5 years. Not quite the ramp I was hoping for but not too shabby. Perhaps the GaN markets are quite a way behind.

I wasn't aware of a huge rate of gearing at the company that would led to a need for the company to "degear", but very happy to have the placing out there at market rather than below market price as is the norm.

40-60 new reactors over the next 3-5 years is quite the ramp and sounds very much like it is being done, as is normal with IQE, only once the deals are all signed sealed and delivered (which makes me think that even more deals have been signed since the last announcement of multiple, multi-year deals).

The announcement continues the run of under promising on forecasts, but if all the shares go at 140p then I'm pretty sure that the mood music in the investment house rooms must have been pretty upbeat.

Cannacord, Stifel and Peel Hunt have all been knocking out very positive forecasts of late, let's see if they can follow through.

Following completion of the Placing the Company has agreed to a lock-up of 90 days.

Does this mean those shares cannot be sold for 90 days? I suspect so.

To be fair, that's a hell of a lot of good news and expansion, considering placings are not my favourite RNS:

This placing will allow IQE to expand its capital expenditure programme in its new foundry, with the purchase of up to 40-60 new MOCVD machines over the next three to five years.

IQE is enjoying material demand for its VCSEL wafers from a leading global consumer electronics company for use in one of its mass market consumer products. In conjunction with multiple other customer engagements IQE expects this demand to increase as its technology is applied across multiple consumer applications and platforms.
