07/11/2017 18:31 | I can't remember for the life of me who on here said, around the 6-Sept. when the share price hit 160p for the first time: "I have sold 10% of my holding above 155p - it would have been daft not to." Well, when it hit 155p once more on Thurs. 2-Nov., I was 'daft enough not to' and when it climbed further to 160.5p, I was even dafter not to. Is there anyone else on here who is as daft as I am? I suspect there is. I topped-up late this afternoon at 136.19p in the hope that the falling knife has hit the deck, but won't be surprised if it hasn't. It could be time for this holder to turn trader. | regasclockwork
07/11/2017 17:28 | So Shavian. Maybe you need investigating. I don't mind people making money as long as they accept their responsibilities. | pshevlin

07/11/2017 17:07 | In the beginning the market is a voting machine - at the end it is a weighing machine. Patience. | malreid

07/11/2017 16:31 | Shorting is only more of a problem recently since no one ever seems to stop f’ing banging on about it all the time. | hammerd2
07/11/2017 15:56 | Shorting has become much more of a problem since bot trading started. | pshevlin
07/11/2017 15:32 | pfc shorters are breaking open the poo. i've been up and down the hill with them so many times i feel inverted. and they have not finished yet. | adejuk
07/11/2017 15:00 | Now we're really beginning to expose the ins and outs of shorts! All we need is a semiconductor-based product that cloaks one's crown jewels without having to wear real shorts. | turbocharge
07/11/2017 14:48 | What about places where people do not need shorts or even wear anything ? | fuji99
07/11/2017 14:37 | Except in summer, when you need shorts! | turbocharge
07/11/2017 14:35 | IQE is the least shorted stock compared to others. Then regardless, I wonder how those who shorted for example PFC and TLW are feeling for the last week or so ... One opened a short in PFC of over 4% just the last few days. So short or no short does not make a iota of difference. | fuji99
07/11/2017 14:18 | Originally, shorting may have had some economic value like encouraging efficiency but, these days, it has nothing to do with technical or financial performance of a particular company. Usually, it only requires that the share price increased high enough (50%, 100%) for them to make an appearance. And if there is plenty of PI in the register is simply irresistible. These days there is enough capital around without useful purpose that its only role is to bring down a share with or without reason. They know that fear, is such a powerful force than can make private investors to abandon an otherwise good investment. Remember, the answer to fear is knowledge and there is plenty here. “We are more often frightened than hurt; and we suffer more from imagination than from reality” (Seneca). | juluman
07/11/2017 13:29 | Opposing shorting with a name like aimingupward is surely the very definition of logical. COYI ! | hammerd2
07/11/2017 13:16 | It's no more 'illogical' than borrowing someones possession and selling it in the hope of being able to buy it back more cheaply before returning it. People don't do that because it's impracticable, socially unacceptable and unlikely to return a profit. It happens on the financial markets as an artificial ruse to generate turnover and profit for mms. It is somewhere between unhelpful to companies and destructive. I'm not 'opposing' shorting, btw, just expressing my view about it. | aimingupward2
07/11/2017 12:36 | aiminugpward oposition to shorting is illogical - simplz | toffeeman
07/11/2017 12:20 | and some people want to whinge about peeps who whinge about shorters. | adejuk
07/11/2017 11:17 | Generally this stock powers ahead before Results are due & then falls back after, Apart from the September tu.suprised Not many are saying they are adding at these Levels, don't think it will drop much lower. Imho. Got plenty but looking to add , As sweenoid says f@ck the shorters. Done it another 11348 | grity
07/11/2017 10:42 | I noticed IQE share price in particular responds positively when nobody expects a rise. This is when most of the shorters often get hurt. I am surprised that some "funds" short this stock while screaming shorts are all over the place. But people need the excitement to lose money sometimes. I would call them the "money-losers masochists". | fuji99
07/11/2017 10:22 | Toffeeman, shorting IS a 'lot worse than investing'. It's destructive. Investing is positive. Things stood on their heads ('the inverse' as you put it) are very very rarely as good as they are the right way up. | aimingupward2
07/11/2017 10:17 | blackbear told us he was shorting IQE a few weeks ago on the (DOWN) thread: | grabster
07/11/2017 10:15 | Frustrating that the excellent performance by Skyworks in the fourth quarter and full year has had such a poor impact this morning for IQE. The CC talked about the coming 5G growth that Sweenoid has been banging on about for ages. Skyworks are extremely confident that they can capitalise on the exponential growth that is coming. On a similar 5G theme, Broadcom's eyewatering $105 BILLION proposed acquisition of QUALCOMM shows how the big boys are desperate not to get left behind on this mobile data revolution. It's all leads me to believe that IQE is STILL in a great position to capitalise on that growth. | blueflame
07/11/2017 10:08 | Shorting is no worse than investing it's just the inverse. I use it regularly when a stock hits resistance and I want to hold it long term. In economic terms it is important as it makes management more efficient 'encouraging' them to maximise shareholder returns. If shorting did not exist there would be many more moribund companies with complacent BoDs | toffeeman |
