Last post fro me today , got a book to read



Just skip to the last paragraph, sums it up nicely, and with IQE having multiple other revenue streams coming on line in 2018 including the other applications for VCSELS and our GAN business, Apples 🍎 COOKING in the background will do us no harm at all.

Just noticed Coltrane increased their short on 31 October by 0.15% that pushed the share price down about 7p on the day, below the 150 level. Looks like they are now losing their grip on 150!

If you study the Oclaro report , you will see that they have issues with the 'pricing' being demanded by the hyperscale guys, and it sounds very much like at the 100gig level ( the speeds are migrating to 200 and then 400) they are being beaten by competitors. AAOI had a similar issue when their 40% customer , Amazon switched supplier

Is that bad for IQE, most definitely NOT , because as the leading vendor by a country Mile in the Indium phosphide wafer market, I guess we supply ALL the networking companies :-) :-) , if one loses out , another always wins.

Is that good enough for you?

Appreciate the post, Sweenoid. The Apple results beat analyst estimates by a healthy margin. The implications for IQE are - dare I say it - awesome.

As to your 'aside', 2000 words would be unnecessary. Whenever powerful and dominant institutions reign supreme it will always be a case of "Do as I say, not as I do".

Extract from FT today "Apple beat iPhone sales forecasts in the September quarter and pointed to a stronger than expected end to the year, on the eve of Friday’s iPhone X launch, sending its shares to a new all-time high in after-hours trading. The bullish outlook from the world’s most valuable company points to what is likely to be another all-time record for a US company’s profits in the current December quarter. Apple, whose stock jumped by 3.5 per cent after-hours to $174, briefly surpassed a market cap of more than $900bn for the first time. Earnings per share rose 24 per cent to $2.08"

So can we draw conclusion that VCSELS are still a super growth area ? Yes (imo)

Thecrunk (or anyone else). What was in the Oclaro CC that would make lumentum drop 7% ? Is it the drop in the older telecom equipment that Oclaro and Lumentum both reported. The Oclaro CC said the drop was more than expected as customer inventory (esp. in china) was higher than expected.

Is IQE impacted by that ?

Lumentum just dropped 7% as a recult of Oclara cc.

Finisar and a few others too.

It will impact IQE tomorrow I think. Will positive Apple earnings forecast overshadow....

Appleinsider published a very comprehensive hands-on review of the X. They were impressed with how FR functioned. Its performance was remarkably consistent. Don't do links but you'll find it easily.

Stuff mag. Review thought the x was actually worth the money but the FR bit was a bit hit and miss. Apparently works better indoors than outside and suggests Apple have more work to do?

This short video on cnbc talks about rampant demand for the iPhone and specifically the implications for suppliers. IQE, not surprisingly, do not get a mention, but it is interesting to see the thinking.

I would bet my entire holding of IQE ( that's a lot) that within a few days, one of the major headlines will be, that in a 'very few' cases face ID is not working.
A bit like the recent non-news, but extensively reported issue with the iPhone8 batteries swelling -now where has that story gone 😉

The bottom line is that in any product , especially using revolutionary technology, failure DO actually happen-well what a surprise, so get ready.

My point-we all now live in a networked world, inhabited by trolls and miscreants who delight in fake news, hyperbole, general mischievous making and a delight in negative thinking, it's because they lack even an iota of creativity, knowledge, rational thought or reasoning of their own. Yep, the conspiracy theorists have it.........

We don't have any of that type of person🤡 on THIS board, DO we?

I think we might actually, who was the muppet who said no- one would buy a $/£ ( how is that ever fair) smartphone, perhaps he might like to ask someone who has pre- ordered, or better, send him to any Apple Store in the world tonight to stand in a queue and hole he gets one. HUGE volumes of shares sold/ bought still being shown, final day volume is going to be huge and on an UP day that's great news indeed :-)
