15/3/2015 09:47 | More on the issues facing SQM and all miners in Chile...it is only a matter of time before SQM will have to open the door to the facts that surround them and are impacting their business...this won't put them out of business and might be good for their Iodine revenue....if we have reduced output from Chile the market price will jump...good for those left...h If it's starting to impact copper I bet it's impacting iodine and eventually the sleepy noodle headed analysts will wake up. Sqm share price is skittling down. Antofagasta (ANTO) will publish full-year results after a bad couple weeks for the Chile-focused miner. A civil court in the country ordered the miner to demolish part or all of a dam at its flagship Los Pelambres mine after locals (who blocked access to the mine) complained that the the dam altered the course of the area's river, causing water shortages. The miner will appeal the court's decision, which could take up to two years, and is entitled to continue operating the dam in the meantime. An RNS on Thursday said the company expects that the final impact of the protesters' action would "reduce production at the mine by approximately 8,000 tonnes of copper for 2015". However, analysts at Barclays weren't too worried in a recent note, but did adjust their forecasts. "The company has a reasonable track record in dealing with these sorts of issues so we would expect it to come out relatively unscathed. Both are actually a result of the extended drought in Chile which is getting worse and is already starting to threaten total country copper production," said Barclays. "We are downgrading EPS [earnings per share] forecasts for 2015 and 2016 by 11% and 7% respectively (we increase our PT to 735p based on 12x 2016 earnings)". | ![]() awolagain

14/3/2015 08:37 | My previous TPL idea, it hasn't gone well....so far. I've been very vocal on condemning management, both publicly and behind the scenes. Shareholders (private shareholders) a few months ago managed to oust the previous Executive Chairman and reorganise the board. Oil prices haven't helped, but note, this is all about gas, I think this one could do well. I have held for a number of years, so please recognise my bias and it isn't without risk :-) Anyway, I spoke to the CEO for nearly an hour yesterday with a frank discussion on the issues and frustrations shareholders have had. I am more sanguine. I think this one has potential to move fast and soon. Sinohan deal is still progressing and I expect a resolution over the next month which will be a game changer. An easy 1 bagger minimum if that happens IMHO. Taj and Georgia will be farmed down which makes sense to me. Please DYOR. | ![]() che7win
14/3/2015 08:25 | On ideas, I'm going to throw one out here, it may or may not work... SCS recently listed on the stock market and has been rerating ever since. Part of the attraction is the high yield which they intend to pay. It's been tipped in a couples of places, I nearly bought first thing last Monday morning at 216p, but didn't take the risk as I need the capital elsewhere. I like consumer related stocks in this environment, high cost items like kitchens, carpets, furniture should do well. I have a very few HDWN because if this. SCS results out on 23rd March which might further help its rerate. Here is the thing, DFS listed just over a week ago too (Same sector), it's had a slow start but risen slightly from the bottom. I'm thinking it might bounce on SCS results in reaction to good results? Please note this is a trade idea, not a long term investment for me, DFS has more debt than SCS too. Just an idea for a trade I'm throwing out here...DFS for a short term trade? | ![]() che7win

13/3/2015 15:17 | Bocker, If you look at the bar graph in odvod's link to the average price/unit, the price of 99.5% iodine in February (the last full month available) dropped to $30.7/kg from $31.96/kg in January, edit: a two year low I think.. | ![]() gadolinium

13/3/2015 11:34 | Odvod, doesn't that show a considerable recent increase in prices combined with a reduction in levels more recently imported - or am I missing something? Is it implying that the recent dumping in the USD mid 30s has stopped and prices are now a tad under the mid 40s? | ![]() bocker01
