This is the exact response from the water authorities regarding the permit decision: "The Hearing Examiner has left the record open until March 6, 2015 for the parties to file closing briefs. The record will be considered officially closed after that date and the Hearing Examiner has 90 days from then to issue a decision." | ![]() bogg1e

09/3/2015 11:24 | As SG has pointed out this must be a fairly simple case so you expect them to want to rubber stamp it sooner rather than later just to get the papers off their desk. Also it is unlikely to really hold things up for Iofina as they stated in January that they were continuing to "move forward with execution plans for this water depot project" as they felt it was so "low risk". | ![]() woodpeckers

08/3/2015 20:07 | I've no idea re the ppm of the leachate but the figures for the caliche are available which is often around the 400 to 500 ppm mark. For the heap leach process yield is about 60% | ![]() superg1
08/3/2015 19:07 | In an earlier post 30379 I offered to examine two papers published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology on iodine, bromine and ammonia contamination of water supplies in Pennsylvania arising from produced and flowback water. Unfortunately when I visited my local university library today I was told as a visitor I could not have access to the online versions of these papers, so cannot comment further on the content. I would say however, that I can see no reason why iodine and bromine could not be removed from these waters using Iofina's Iosorb process with suitable adjustments to the chemistry. Since bromine and iodine have been extracted commercially by air-stripping from mineral rich waters after chlorine oxidation in Turkmenistan for decades. See below. In principle ammonia can also be extracted by air-stripping, but only at elevated pH which is incompatible with iodine/bromine extraction which must be carried out below pH 7. | ![]() gadolinium
08/3/2015 18:14 | My figures for water cost are just based on a guesses really, but I thought I would add them to the mix for discussion. Looking down the other end of the telescope and thinking about water coming out rather than water input. Does anybody know the concentration of iodine in the leachate from the heap leach process? I cannot find any data after searching a number of times. Consider: if the leachate contains 500ppm (500 mg/L) then it would take 2000L to produce 1 kg of iodine at a cost of $1.9/m3 that's $3.8/kg. I don't know if 500 ppm is a realistic figure or not for the leachate, it seems a bit high to me. Obviously the cost rises significantly for lower concentrations. I make no allowance for evaporation losses during leaching which I imagine may be significant. On the other hand there will be cost savings from not having to extract water from boreholes or such like. | ![]() gadolinium
08/3/2015 10:45 | 4 days ago pre the judge locking up the Penta group bosses. One of the most important edges that have emerged from the case Penta is to SQM, where delivery of money from the firm investigates various politicians through ideologically false ballots. This has impacted on the bonds of the company, particularly in foreign markets. For example, the SQM paper issued by the firm in October 2014 has traded very little this year. Between late January and yesterday only five transactions, where no exceeded US $ 1 million, with a spread between 230 and 241 basis points were made. While the experts said that the debt of the firm, is punished from the Cascades case where the driver was involved, Julio Ponce Lerou, the edge of Penta case came to confirm this. In fact, they noted that foreign institutional investors have reduced their exposure to these roles as they are concerned the possible implications that could have the court case. For actions, but have rented 7.07% in 2015, analysts see a possible risk. If the inquest comes to involve executives or board members SQM, this will cause reputational impact on the company. If so, investors would lower their exposure to securities, dropping action. Even stockbrokers reduce their projections if this scenario materializes. | ![]() superg1
08/3/2015 10:36 | Re "Bosses being dealt with for fraud, bribery and various issues." Yesterday The Chile judge has just sent the Penta group bosses and connected offenders (6 of them) to jail while they investigate the case. That included Pablo Wagner who was the deputy mining minister who resigned. He resigned when corruption was identified when SQM were awarded the lithium tender a couple of years ago (since rescinded). Re that lithium case 'Posco, said SQM should have been barred from the tender because it is currently being sued by several government agencies.' CORFO is one of them as we know (ongoing). 10 days ago SQM had an EGM over the recent Penta case, as it affects some of their bosses like Julio Ponce Lerou. at the request of the Chairman of the Board of SQM S.A., an extraordinary Board meeting was held today to analyze the matters that have been divulged by the press in recent weeks and are the subject of ongoing public cases. In such meeting, the Board resolved to establish a special committee comprising of Board members Wolf Von Appen, José María Eyzaguirre Baeza, and Juan Antonio Guzmán Molinari, to investigate such matters. | ![]() superg1

07/3/2015 23:52 | If they were using seawater. They use freshwater but had future plans to spend $50 mill on a pipeline. That's all dead now and 20 days to go until bid deadline day for them. The list Algorta seawater pipeline (supreme court ruling to come which may see that taken away) Bullmine seawater by truck but they want a pipeline. Cosayach just stole water but they now have a pipeline in play. ($300m owed in court orders and pending tax evasion case) ACF Minera Fresh water and limited to about 2000mt (linked to Algorta) SQM 5000 to 6000 mt relies on the pampa aquifer fresh that Cosayach were stealing water from. Their only other current mine (PV) relies on the Loa and one other river. SQM have no pipeline planned as they had meant to move in 2014. Hence with the drought if the gov suspend water rights in SQM areas they are stuffed. As are ACF minera (NV area) SQM lithium (38% of their revenue) hangs on a court case with CORFO. Bosses being dealt with for fraud, bribery and various issues. Other than that the weather nice and sunny in Chile. SQM continued cost savings all based on a weak peso that seems to have bottomed out. SQM need a run of good luck this year, their future prospects are not in their hands. They need to acquire Cosayach. SQM have a problem, they quoted how good Q1 2013 was, but on the like for like Q1 2015 will look terrible for them re iodine, as they had been playing an inventory sales game. Analysts must surely click when Q1 15 results appear. | ![]() superg1
