07/11/2023 11:17 | Evri and all the others are only interested in parcels - no one wants the Mail but RM are forced to deliver to every address 6 days a week. That is not sustainable or even sensible in a digital World without huge costs involved. They've just had a strike for a year or so and still the Government pretend it is a must have service. then they should take it and all the costs involved. It's an anachronism that most can do without. People stopped sending Cards 20 or more years ago. | isis
07/11/2023 11:09 | Having a good local driver is a plus, but a driver can only deliver what he his given. The delays of post and then all arriving at once, will in my experience be due to lack of staff at the final sorting point. There will be a district with no one allocated to it. The mail will then build up in that sorting bay until finally a manager will direct people to do a clear out on it. No doubt it will an 'overtime' job. It's the civil service culture of Royal Mail that costs it dear. The muppets are still in the 1960's, they don't seem to grasp that they are now in a competitive world, and need to provide an efficient service, in order to earn money. The latest move by the Post Office might sharpen things up a bit? | lefrene
07/11/2023 11:07 | The only thing I get of any importance now in the Mail is a Magazine Subscription and have only had one missing in four years which probably went in the wrong door. Everything else Mail wise can be done online and usually is - even all the Magazines are online now too. The Government are stupid and are probably trying to catch some votes with their dismissal of not allowing the service to shrink, it's a Dinosaur that none of the others have to deal with. | isis
07/11/2023 10:59 | This is all because EVRI threw in the Doorway with no warning! The RM redelivery the next day is another new and worthwhile feature, the Tracking is pretty good too. I think they are making headway and of course there is plenty of competition but personally give me RM anyday. | isis
07/11/2023 10:49 | ISIS Threaten to sue them. If that doesn't persuade them, go round to their offices and sort it out personally. | geckotheglorious
07/11/2023 10:34 | Seconded lord loads. It is indeed down to a local driver issue. Don't have an issue with ours. Bloke is superb. | geckotheglorious
07/11/2023 10:19 | isis - I suspect yours is a localised issue. Any delivery service is only as good as the drivers in that area. My experience is the complete opposite. Where we live, Royal Mail's letter delivery "service" has gone from reliable to uselessly sporadic. Days on end go by with nothing delivered. Then suddenly - presumably when they feel like it & are running out of space - a whole heap lands on the mat. In the past, we almost always got post every day. And it hasn't all suddenly migrated to email. We've complained more than once and they just tell us they're having trouble recruiting staff in the area. Which may be true, but isn't really an acceptable answer, now is it. Royal Mail's solution to this appalling lack of service is just to raise prices every year. No wonder letters are in terminal decline. I wonder how many will ditch Christmas cards altogether this year. Or at least severely prune their list. This latest Post Office announcement sounds the death knell for Royal Mail longer term IMHO. They arrogantly relied on parcels to keep themselves afloat, taking their eye off the ball when it comes to letters. Their price & service on parcels isn't a patch on their competitors. A few years back, our business switched out of RM completely for its parcel deliveries. And despite moving to Evri (who haven't always had the best reputation), we've experienced far fewer problems. Last Christmas wasn't great, as Evri picked up a lot of Royal Mail's parcel business (due to RM's regular strike action) & they didn't have the capacity to handle it all properly. But it's since settled down again, has better tracking than RM & is way cheaper. Evri also pays out relatively quickly (within 30 days) on the rare occasions when something does go wrong. Without having to complete a long form, answer umpteen daft questions, produce cost price evidence then wait months for any response - (often culminating in a "computer says no") - which is Royal Mail's pathetic approach. | lord loads of lolly
07/11/2023 09:34 | I still find them the most reliable 100percent and dread a parcel coming from Evri! | isis
07/11/2023 09:29 | Post Office ends exclusive relationship with Royal Mail by allowing people to send parcels with cheaper foreign-owned rivals including Evri and DPD in hammerblow to British postal service since last years strikes at christmas I have not posted one piece of 1st or 2nd class letter, cards arrived in january and i thought rm were not worthy of my business | nakedmolerat
07/11/2023 08:47 | I note a trading update October last year. Are we due one then? | encarter
02/11/2023 21:07 | Hi NMRN, Thanks for that insider update and let's hope the breakeven then profitable over the next two years plays out. The £3.25 fair value price sounds about right too over the next 6 to 12 months but I would then expect a run towards £4 if indeed profits are looking more likely. That's great news on your new runs now working well and good luck with the other two next April 👍🏻 | tuftymatt
02/11/2023 19:10 | Hi tuftymatt, The general feeling around the business amongst the senior managers is that Royal Mail has indeed turned the corner and is now rapidly accelerating towards break even next year and profit the following year. The reason for todays' rise is, however, probably more to do with this reiterated BUY recommendation from Citigroup. Good luck to all holders! NMRN PS. Runs 3 & 4 now up and running with all teething problems sorted. Looking forward to April when 5 & 6 come on board. -------------------- Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C) Analysts have reiterated their buy recommendation for shares in Royal Mail, which officially changed its trading name and ticker to International Distributions Services PLC (LSE:IDS) last month. Citigroup analysts have lowered their target price, where they believe the company’s share price would create ‘fair value’ for shareholders, to £3.25 per share. The current listed share price for International Distributions Services PLC (LSE:IDS) is 261.8p per share, as of Thursday mid-afternoon. Analysts said they believe that pay increases will be offset by improvements in productivity, operations and network optimisation. They analysed cost savings from seasonable contracts, reduced sorting hours and sickness rates. Citigroup analysts estimate that the potential disposal value of the company’s real estate is worth about £240 million, given the network optimisation at Parcelforce and Royal Mail depots. “We believe that c.10% of pay rises between 2022 and 2025 amounting to £400m will be more than offset by the proposed productivity, operational improvements, and network optimization,” Citigroup analysts said in a research note on Thursday. | not my real name
02/11/2023 13:02 | Nov and Dec should be a very strong couple of months for the whole industry so maybe with no IA to come this peak the market is expecting IDS to do ok?? Good luck all 👍🏻 | tuftymatt

10/10/2023 08:20 | I don't do much ebaying these days but when I did I would buy my stamps discount on eBay then drop my items off at the post office. Saved a fortune on postage. I still have over 1000 stamps in the safe, probably cost me about £400 and worth £1250 today. One. Of my better Investments. | encarter
09/10/2023 16:17 | One of my revenue streams is ebay and they no longer allow me to buy postage for large letters upto 250g. It's either got to be up to 100g or upto 750g. It's easier to use Evri through ebay for £2.70 instead of using the RM app to try for £2.30 which ebay doesn't make available. *most of my ebay business is up to 250g large letter | casholaa
09/10/2023 12:59 | I suppose if they're losing money on every parcel than the less they handle the less money they lose. | encarter
05/10/2023 11:27 | I had to switch my business over to Hermes/Evri this week as RM have priced themselves out of the market. It's actually a good way of killing demand to kill the service. | casholaa
