The only thing I have to say about the recent posts is that I don't recognize the company you are talking about.

There may be isolated cases of what is being described but that is definitely NOT the norm.

Like so many other things where the Government has a hand holding over it, it can't breathe. It needs to be cut completely free from any government interference at all, so that it can operate as an actual business. Stop giving the plum work to foreign competitors leaving RM with the costly 'last mile', drop the 'universal service' criteria. (if you choose to live in the back of beyond then twice a week deliveries will do fine. Only move trailers when they are at least half full, and find return loads for the trailers returning to home depots. It really is a very simple business which could make very good profits if not choked by Government interference.

Perhaps the way forward is to simply let it go bust, and re-start with a clean sheet.

But then this will have been obvious for the past 25 years, so what game is being played, and why?

Nigh on everything is done this way. How does this Guy arrange an appointment? Does he send a letter to his Surgery and wait for them to write back?
Farcical!

The Letters are merely confirmations these days.

Perhaps they should have appointments face to face. Do people not have emails, Phones and Texts??

A cancer sufferer who underwent surgery last month said it was "shocking" that letters from his doctor had arrived after he was expected to attend appointments.A source close to the company said the next three months were "make or break" for Royal Mail after it lost a tenth of its business to rivals in a year of strikes, and delivered a £750 million loss.

It's like everything atm. If one person complains about something and another 99 don't they will take the 1 persons view and make us all pay for it!
My own Step Dad complains if the Mail is late which the only thing he gets is a Bank Statement or confirmation of paying a Bill which is always exactly the same as the previous months anyway and all can be done online or at a Cash Machine!

I now find that my deliveries from abroad go to Princess Royal Hub before central london sorting centre instead of direct to from the midlands to central london.

The potential of Royal Mail is because it is so inefficient with so much dead wood and poor working practices.
It has an infrastructure to be envied, what Amazon, UPS or FEDEX could do to it if they were free to manage properly.

Can't say I even get much of that, except the hand delivered non Postal Stuff that doesn't bother me.
Takeaway Menu's and the like are quite handy. :)
