22/5/2018 08:02 | One can see where ownership of Immarsat is headed. Into the hand of a consortium of debt holders imo. | my retirement fund
22/5/2018 07:58 | I dont know much about the technology but suspect Iridium new generation of satellites will be able to offer global safety for planes rather than the limited cover granted by the aviation bodies at present.Presumably that will be another service on offer at far keener prices? | my retirement fund
22/5/2018 07:56 | wskill - they do not need to get isat kit users to dent profit here. If they offer a service at a serious undercut - then the obvious and arguably more likely scenario is the ship owner goes back to ISAT and asks for a discount , and gets it or ISAT risk losing business. That is why monopolies are so valuable - you can charge what you like - until the competition comes along. I had asked back through this thread what about the competition - now we see evidence of some coming and the share price has reacted. | fenners66
22/5/2018 07:53 | Hi all, The Iridium threat doesn't appear to have featured in any analyst research I've seen....yet this has apparently been a potential threat to business for a number of years.... Sheesh ! ATB | extrader
22/5/2018 07:51 | The new upgraded iridium satellites are already being launched en-mass. Space X delivered a clutch end of 2017. Perhaps to roll out will be completed sooner than imagined. | my retirement fund
22/5/2018 07:38 | Have had the iridium phone onboard for years just been removed as never used not ever been a great link first they will have to provide decent equipment and not the older generation stuff they have provided in the past. All the Inmarsat equipment onboard is on long term lease same for most vessels so unlikely they can take present ships from Inmarsat we are talking about the new build market iridium is after starting from 2020. They will have to undercut by very large margin to get shipowners to use their kit make more sense to buy isat. | wskill
22/5/2018 07:31 | Just when it seemed the share price was recovering.... Maritime was 40% of Q1 earnings. | wad collector

09/5/2018 22:08 | From the FT: Farewell to the blissful solitude of the long-haul flight. "..... And now, it may be over for good. This year, Deloitte forecasts, about a quarter of the world’s aircraft will be equipped with “ in-flight connectivity ”. WiFi is coming to the skies. In much of the US, it is already there. In Europe, International Airlines Group, made up of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling, is rolling out in-flight internet. So is Qantas, and many others. Deloitte says it has so far been mostly business travellers who use onboard WiFi, passing on the expense to their companies. But ordinary flyers want it too. “Demand for connectivity is now so strong that consumers would prioritise it over most other amenities,” Deloitte says. One survey found that, offered a range of in-flight services, 54 per cent of flyers would opt for WiFi — nearly three times as many as would choose a meal." Short snippet for news access. You can read the full article as it's not paywalled. I'm hoping that by accumulating a modest amount in ISAT now, everyone else will later wake up to the potential for future earnings and push the price back up slowly. | lomcovaks

03/5/2018 13:20 | I don't think inmarsat has "renumerated" enough... Fairly solid numbers, but nothing special? Two steps forward... Etc. | zcaprd7
03/5/2018 07:33 | Talking of numbers , yesterday's gains seem to have evaporated already today. One for the patient, ISAT. | wad collector
03/5/2018 07:33 | RBC reiterated outperform | kamitora |
