nwrees has nailed it. There are billions of pounds waiting to be spent as people haven't been spending their disposable income whilst in lockdown. It's only a matter of time before those billions start getting spent. It's unknown how long that will be.

Loganair is spot on.
It’s not just a case of getting a successful vaccine - it’s got to be:
1. Scalable to billions of doses - most experts think that could take a further 12 months past the point when it’s approved
2. Enough people have got to agree to be vaccinated - early indications are that only about 60% of people would take it (which isn’t enough)
3. It has to provide long lasting immunity (which it may well not - 3 months immunity is consensus)
4. The virus must have NOT mutated in the meantime
The chance of all 4 happening is low in my view.
That’s one of the reasons I think airlines are screwed.

Moderna's vaccine at a dose that works has many side effects and that is in fit and healthy people.

I can see a vaccine that works and has no side effects is going to be rather like returning the B737Max into service.

When first grounded Boeing said the aircraft will be back in the air with in 2 or 3 months, then they said September, then December/January, then Spring, then July, now the talk is of this coming December.

France reporting that their number of Covid cases are continuing to rise and are now at a 2 1/2 month high and their R rate has now risen from below 1 to 1.3.

The State of Victoria in Australia has just reported their single highest day rise in Covid cases.

Between Easyjet, IAG and TUI, I would say Easyjet are by far in the best position.

I've been hearing that Ryanair have been the worst and slowest at giving passengers refunds - that's what passengers get for flying 'Cheap' and why I wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole.

Many passengers have been complaining how dirty Ryanair passenger cabins are at the moment and how they are not being cleaned.

As one lady put her experience of flying on Ryanair in the past few days "The tables and seats were so stained from the previous flight as they had no been cleaned, I had to sit for 5 hours with my two children in a covid ridden aircraft."

So heavily underpinned with cash that they are still refusing to pay out to people who had flights cancelled in March and April, and are now being threatened with the loss of their operating licence! Go and read their twitter stream. Some people are really delusional.
