The worst part of the statement to me is
"However, with our customers now being even more price focussed post Brexit"

What tosh. I have yet to meet anyone who has said they have pulled back there spending because of Brexit. What a lame excuse. Apart from which we have not even had Brexit at all yet, and to Joe public he or she wouldnt care anyway.

BTW:

LONDON—U.K. retail sales remained resilient in August after a strong July, in a further sign that consumers have largely shrugged off the country's surprise decision to exit the European Union

some clarification from the company is in order surely after such a price collapse. v. poor PR from a supposedly solid outfit imo.

Interesting that Cantos are on 42.25p offer and the next nearest broker is 46p.

To my mind this was always an accident waiting to happen but perhaps I was just jealous of those that bought in at far lower prices?

Anyhow, taken small punt at 42.25p with a tight stop as I think these could halve again if the results on the 29th present a worse picture than people are already guessing based on the trading update.

Update, Peel just dropped 3p on the offer! Not sure daviddosh is going to be proven right about the institutional buying!

The problem as i see it is thus. For every % they increase margin by reducing promotions and increasing prices ect ect they lose a corresponding amount of sales.

Like we have already said, they will surely struggle to find enough short dated meat to go around all the new stores, so they then have to source meat elsewhere ,probably more expensive stock?
They are then stuck betwixt a rock and a hard place trying to keep prices low enough to increase sales whilst probably having to pay more themselves for the meat!
So far the solution has remained faithful to passing that rise onto customers or downsizing offerings,(reducing promotions) it now seems that this will not work??

The solution is being patched up partly by adding new lines not dependent on meat, the growth via the Food to go and the frozen offering being examples of such.. However lines need to be found that can generate enough sales to offset the loss due to the increase in meat prices otherwise shoppers will vote with there feet and go elsewhere, to some extent this is what is happening!

It may be time for a fresh look from new eyes at the top? The strategy at the momentum seems lackluster, responsive rather than preemptive and is looking off the rails.

Considering they are saying people ate less meat due to the European Championships mentioning price rises post Brexit in the statement would be a lot more believable but they didn't hence we must assume price increases post Brexit were not a factor.
I am a holder but I don't have rosetinted specs. If there is a problem I want the company to tell me what it is not make up unprovable general statements, if football caused a drop in sales where is the research to prove this, did they survey customers? It lowers my trust in them.

At the AGM they did say meat would cost more post Brexit.

Meat cost post Brexit is not what they said, they said...

'However, with our customers now being even more price focussed post Brexit'

To be fair, when they mention Brexit they are probably referring to the resulting impact on the exchange rate as they buy most of their shipments within the EU.

My problem with the statement is it throws up many excuses and warns on profits but without quantifying anything. How severe LFL decline are we talking?

Looks like we'll all have to keep guessing until the release of the results. Expect the share price to be very volatile in the interim period.

Certainly feel my losses here are my fault rather than anything to do with E_d_f, although it certainly looks like CRAW have a problem with information leaking out. This needs to be addressed.

I was perfectly aware of the general price pressure on meat and poultry, particularly the recent significant price reductions at MRW, and should have reduced my position on the basis of this.

Blaming Brexit and football for trading problems and not giving us any LFLs today is less than ideal.

I wonder just how bad the LFLs may be on 29-Sep. I hope all the existing outlets are still profitable.

Ominously the Co have not given the % drop in LFL sales in the update, they surely must know this information?
All will be more clear at the end of the month!

Results in a couple of weeks anyway, thats the time to weigh up the company.
I expect holders are very nervous of them or is all the bad news out now.

The point about them reviewing their roll out strategy is key. Hopefully there will be more details of this in the results later this month.

Moving forward. like i said yesterday i believe this is a great business , but the shares had got ahead of the game. This to some extent has been corrected today .
One poster today talked about the short dated supermarket meat. This worked well with a small business model but when you have a larger number of outlets there is only so much of that type of meat available at any one time.

I like the business but the bod do themselves no favors at all blaming people not buying meat on brexit and football, usually this is huge red flag. Morriosns said they had a increase in sales today, why did brexit and football not effect them?
However in the case of CRAW i would give it a second chance.

Usually shares drift down after these warnings and 35-38 looks possible on the charts.

Good luck to all

Evil, you were right about the trading of that I have no qualms about saying so. I have flagged my concerns already, I would be far more concerned about the company's corporate governance than any other points if someone had talked about company wide trading. However you are confirming that you had no inside information so I will have to assume you just spoke to shoppers etcI don't understand the wife point sorry

You need to understand very carefully any further libel against me alluding that i committed a criminal offense will be be taken very seriously.
I have already told you on at least four occasions i had no inside information.

You are just continuing insinuating this rather than just be a man and say Evil you called it right. This is because you are the sort that would rather pull your back teeth out than admit someone else called your share correct when you expected the opposite to what i said to occur!

One last point, For example. Would you call your wife a Random person?

edit just seen above post hydrus , thank you. line drawn under it now.

It is easy to do a bit of your own research in these shops but one shop isn't always a sign its the same in others. Has no-one ever asked how trade is going, even easier if you know someone who works in said store.

If the Doctor has spoken to customers and got a feel for trading then great fair play to him. The postings yesterday did not read like that, which is why I was perturbed. Either way the company has some work to do to sort the trading out.

Evil - you said it was not just from a random person yesterday, which indicated it was someone in the know. If you could please re-read my post - it says the company should look into this matter and determine if and how information was leaked. That would be a corporate governance matter for the company to address and to make sure it never happens again.Any points about whether anyone benefited personally from information are completely separate and would be for authorities to look into. However I don't believe for a second that would happen.Understand?

Can you even open up your mind to the possibility that everything in life is not as per your own personal maladjusted slant?
Well what if i live in Hellaby and talk to people who shop there, who say its empty when they go in?

You really really are crossing the line now... please refrain from any more unfounded libel.
You have displayed adequately that you can not acknowledge that i was correct , now you try and mask this by simply committing libel against me!

'I am hearing from Hellaby that sales are sluggish.I expect LFL sales to be down circa 5%'Like I said, the company should be investigating how information about trading was leaked out before it was released to stock market. It's a very simple point to understand Evil so not sure what you are confused about.
