NY Boy - Absolutely, I will buy again when opportunity comes. I doubt the share price will go down too much as long as takeover stories is in the air.K C

Just buy decent dips, hold long term, enjoy the divis and any takeover would be a bonus, a bit of a boring one but not as boring as holding cash down at el banco.

Of course, the shorters could push the share price lower before making their exodus.K C

Surprisingly the shorters show no action. With the share price of Carillion this low, I don't believe the shorters will increase their bet at this level. The shorters could close their positions and get their profit now. However, that is unlikely in my opinion. They could start their engines to push up the share price instead and then increase the positions.I am interested to see what will happen next.K C

Oggy, thanks for that, can you see my red cheeks over the internet? I must admit that my CLLN isn't one of my holdings that I keep a close eye on and I'd missed the earlier reporting. Not to worry, I'll keep taking the decent return and wait for one of those Middle Eastern firms to stick their head into the public domain.

Work in infrastructure and heard a similar rumour starting last week about a takeover here. A distinct possibility in this market of consolidation. Remember there are some huge infra projects to deliver in both UK and middle east, combined with a shortage of suitable staff to deliver these. Buying a Carillion, or similar, with a background in delivery of these may be a needs-must for certain organisations who have some very large projects under considerable scrutiny to deliver.

Same story was in the broadsheets a few days earlier. Price rose 12p a couple of days ago.Evening standard news always has been a few days behind. Still - would be good if it happens.

Err hello, Evening Standard story and we're off 11p after the div of 12.65 (so effectively only up 1.65p), am I missing something?

Reported in last night's Evening Standard of "rumours that middle Eastern firms may be looking to buy Carillion".
Was expecting a real kick to the share price this morning even though it's ex div??????

A takeover candidate with deep pockets who could calm the Pension Trustees could squeeze a few hundred million of value out of that negotiation alone.

the rise may have been on the back of the Waterman takeover, as foreign companies seem to see a lot of value in UK infrastructure groups

I just sold my Berkeley, £25 to £34, which was a very heavily shorted stock.

From yesterday's FT...
"Construction group Carillion was squeezed higher by 4.9 per cent to 226.1p on a revival of merger speculation. The gossip has helped Carillion lose its status as the UK’s most crowded short, with shares on loan to short sellers reduced to 25 per cent of its free float from more than 30 per cent two months ago, Markit data show..."

Can't see this being a takeover target. If it was then surely it would be asset stripped and split up and sold as different business. Actually that makes sense. Maybe it could be a takeover target.

Almost back to break even. Ok stock. I just bought at wrong price. Once downward trend finally broken, this will be a real winner. Its just judging the right time as always.

Telegraph puts yesterday's rise down to City takeover rumours! I would not want to be short if that happened so with some nervous shorters around this could move quite quickly.

I am glad that I have not got to pay over £11 million in dividends. Most of these shorters were in at a lot higher price. You would have thought they would have bought them back and taken the profit.
