"Ninth sovereign default?

Argentina is looking to restructure its debt with the IMF and bondholders in an effort to stem a confidence crisis that has upended the country’s financial markets. The nation will now delay $7B of payments on short-term local debt due this year and will seek a "voluntary reprofiling" of $50B of longer-term debt, as well as postponement on the repayment of $44B of loans from the IMF. The move will probably be judged as another sovereign default, although Argentina is at the moment only seeking a voluntary extension of repayment times, rather than "haircutting" interest payments or the size of its debt."

From "Seeking Alpha" Wall Street Breakfast.

Yep - but CDS moves a few weeks ago priced for itThe collapse in peso given mainly dollar interest to pay made it inevitable that their would be a debt restructure It's all very relevant to Bur but it's already well known

It is - and if the case - MW will be furious with TW I'd kept an open mind about TW - especially as was v bored by the multiple sock puppets boring on and on - but that tweet was seriously dodgy

Market manipulation is a wider issue than a parochial matter for stock traders' choices: the stockmarket exists primarily as a means to raise capital, so if confidence in such is impaired then it reduces efficiency/legitimacy of capitalism.

Why market manipulation needs rules/action:

- Libel/slander issue of damage to a company's reputation which can affect underlying business.

- 'Once bitten twice shy' can then apply to stock traders/investors that impairs the rating a good while, e.g. potentially also raising the cost of capital via share issues.

Whether an investor or corporate, it should be reasonable to expect the market operates on established truths and standards, than rigging operations however short-term.

E.g. smaller private investors are not allowed even to submit multiple small trades so why should sophisticated big boys be able to muck about, at all?

Why do people keep on about market manipulation? If the price is low and you think it's a bargain and will appreciate, buy more.
