12/6/2007 17:48 | What is this new legislation in October? | smiler_13
12/6/2007 17:25 | I think shortermism is what is prevailing in this investment environment. Absolutely ludicrous. Why can't they see this pricing strategy as an investment for the long term. As I said, after october, the new legislation, which require rubbish to have undergone treatment before going to land-film, favour big and integrated service players like Biffa. I would see this strategy as building a good customer relationship and hence expected to hold good for long term. So this is indeed a goood opportunity to add. Good luck all, | ![]() watwungyi
12/6/2007 16:55 | Don't think its shorters, suspect lots of stop losses triggered, heavyweight buys late on makes me think it will bounce sooner rather than later. | rogerl
12/6/2007 16:12 | The great thing about shoreters is they have to close tehir position they may have won a little battle but its goign to go woosh the other way cos the results were infact rather fine...............8 | ![]() seagreen
12/6/2007 16:11 | Well I added as people in long trousers say it will bounce large when the shorting hedge funds have finished their little game ...........could go to £4 or £5 | ![]() seagreen
12/6/2007 15:24 | Written on the back of a Biffa van this morning... We bodge it and we leg it...made me laugh.. Great buying opportunity today share price could double in the next 2 years. | ![]() mitzis
12/6/2007 14:44 | It looks IMHO like golden opportunity to top up | clusium
12/6/2007 13:57 | retroz3 - likewise. pmorrell - good summary. The rubbish will prevail. | ![]() johne1
12/6/2007 13:49 | I have got these shares in both a SIPP and an ISA and intend to keep them long term. The takeover possibilities are the icing on the cake but the fundamentals are excellent. Good management, operating in a high profile growing sector and with a size and capability that can win the big contracts. These results, which are not bad by any means, have been an excuse to shake out the weaker holders but quality will win out at the end of the day. | ![]() pmorrell
12/6/2007 12:44 | I am hanging on to my shares as I fully expect BIFF to be a takeover target in this consolidating sector. | retroz3
12/6/2007 12:30 | LUDERITZ - Thanks for your words. Our Internet access is through the BT land line, as we do not have facilities in place, where I live, for cable connection. Formerly Wannado, the broadband is now provided by Orange, I believe. But, the service has flaws, because the old land line system is not really capable of maintaining the volume at peak times. The speed is always lower than cable systems, I have been led to believe. Sometimes, it works fine but, unfortunately, at other times we have to keep switching it off and back on again, until a connection can be made. It is at times like this, that the poor service is difficult to tolerate. I don't know of an alternative, due to the limited facilities in our area. If anyone knows of one, I would appreciate them letting me know. Anyway, regarding the share price, you called it right and I congratulate you. I am not, at all, happy with the level at the moment and it has dropped further than I thought. So, what to do? - sell the shares cheap to the market, or hang on and hope for better days - for now, I have chosen the latter - wish me luck? Cheers and all the best | ![]() johne1
12/6/2007 11:37 | Johne1, "We have had trouble with our internet access" Interesting so have I. Don't suppose it's on your 2nd line is it? Thats where my problem lies (i'm on dial up), I'm with the dreaded BT and wonder if you are having the same problem, then It will be a BT cost and not ours. My other line is working fine. On BIFF's share price I had a feeling about It so sold out a couple of weeks back. | ![]() luderitz
12/6/2007 09:30 | Hello watwungyi - if you hold the shares, the dividend is good and, (as I have decided to hold on), will soften the blow, somewhat, of the retreat this morning. You are right about the big boys buying cheap - so, my answer is "I'm not selling!". In my opinion, a large amount of stop losses will have been triggered, maybe, unnecessarily. The announcement was, actually, quite better than I expected. So, I think now, what on earth is all the fuss about? The company is good. Plus, as with many mid-caps, we are looking for forward statements and, after a cursory viewing, the management seem fairly confident that they can meet demands going forward. | ![]() johne1
12/6/2007 09:30 | guess modest growth is not enough for the market today, but an ok if unexciting play i suppose | ![]() its the oxman
12/6/2007 09:30 | Have done the same, I don't think there is anything in the results to change the sector consolidation story imo. | ![]() ashtongray
12/6/2007 09:24 | bought some at 303.4p in ISA for slighly long term/bid target etc. Bridgewell remains overweight on the stock after results, which it says were in line with expectations.Broker adds: 'In terms of the outlook, Biffa offers a well-balanced business in a changing market underpinned by the significant environmental non-discretionary spend in the, the key growth market globally.' Sum-of-the-parts price target remains 385p. | nirag patel
12/6/2007 09:10 | Well ladies and Gents, is this a buying opportunity or not?? Any thoughts? P | patricktrfc
12/6/2007 09:05 | Market wants flawless statement, Johne. They would take phrase like 'competitive market conditions', 'take time' as opportunity to dump shares dragging along faint-hearted who sold them for the big boys to be able to buy cheap. | ![]() watwungyi
12/6/2007 08:55 | Sorry for not being here, earlier. We have had trouble with our internet access and sods law states that it would happen now. Well, I quickly read the headlines, "Biffa stiffens profits", an increase of 11.1% on the previous year and felt a sigh of relief. How many times have I done that and then viewed the share price, which instantly told me something is up ? There is, currently, a 5.5% drop in the value of my shares and folk are still selling. Do I panick? - I already have but, I have not sold any shares. As I am writing, there are some buyers coming in and, therefore, I am not planning on selling any shares right now. Believe it, or not, I have not yet read the full RNS statement but the summary, which I found, did not paint a bad picture. Perhaps the market expected better - as usual. | ![]() johne1
12/6/2007 08:13 | why hit so hard? forward looking staement? | ![]() dov
12/6/2007 07:22 | But interesting news is Biff's rival Veolia is issuing new shares for possible acquisitions. Considering waste industry has yet to be consolidated, we might see consolidation activities support Biff's share price. | ![]() watwungyi
12/6/2007 07:18 | I think the result is a good one. But I don't know how the market will react to ceo comment that it will take time to reap benefits from its new pricing strategies. Apart from that, i think it's a very good result. Any opinion? | ![]() watwungyi
12/6/2007 00:04 | ideal420 - we'll take that blokes word for it - for now:-) ---------- watwungyi - How ya doin' ? - 'tis always good to read your words. I have to confess to not knowing the meaning of ambivalent: I must have been off school that day. Anyway, 5 seconds later, after a googly search and I get your drift that the markets are uncertain, or unable to decide, (off topic: amazing is this Internet world). I have to admit, that I am always nervous, if I am holding onto shares the night before news. In the morning, when I boot up the beast and load up my portfolio, I will have my hand over my eyes and will be looking through the gaps in my fingers, until I know it is safe to come out. Hopefully, it will be. I won't suffer lack of sleep though. After I have trawled the news etc. and relevant posts, my head will hit the pillow like a lead weight and the next thing, I will smell kippers for breakfast. I hope everyone will be reading the news tomorrow, instead of the nonsense in my post. Cheers all and good luck | ![]() johne1
11/6/2007 23:24 | I know a bloke..... doesn't everyone. He worked reasonably closely with sita and biffa over some tendering recently. Reckons that biffa have the best longterm outlook but their business plan needs time to bare fruit. ie all the gov legislation and their early adoption of various practices means in 6-10mths it could easily see 390+. Trouble is, its some blokes opinion, and who knows what the future holds. Especially also on short term price. | ![]() ideal420 |
