07/3/2007 12:35 | Biffa had a favourable mention in the Guardian today: Where there's muck Jeremy Paxman, a man exercised by the rubbish-covered state of the country, would surely approve of Biffa, the waste disposal group spun off from Severn Trent in October. The company collects and processes nearly 10m tonnes of waste a year and has 100MW of landfill gas generation capacity. Yesterday it pleased its investors as its share price rose 7p to 320p. According to reports, its smaller rival Cory Environmental could soon be sold for about £570m to a private equity buyer, and this has prompted some number crunching by analyst Kevin Lapwood at Seymour Pierce. He says the putative take-out price for Cory is much higher than expected and, using a similar valuation, Biffa could be worth between 456p and 541p a share. | lilythepink

05/3/2007 21:02 | You could be right powerbook. But this stock has already dropped 14% from its peak already. So even if it is to drop, it shouldn't drop too low. I think I take into account the possibility of further drop when I bought. | ![]() watwungyi
05/3/2007 17:21 | Very brave. I think FTSE will hit 5500-5700 this month as we capitulate before moving higher again. | powerbook
05/3/2007 16:31 | Topped up with some more @315, as safe as any I think at the moment. | ![]() luderitz

05/3/2007 16:02 | Nice to see you the band. I must say I have shed quite a bit these days. But you know, until I close my position, i can't be said to have realized the loss. Add some more here at 311 this morning. Time will tell. Dow is up. So perhaps more buyers coming and help this push up. I thought I was careful enough. But you can never underestimat Mr market. Good luck to you all pals. The band, nothing has changed abouth this stock since the last interim report came out. They are chasing for two lucrative PFI contracts in Southwark, London and one in the north. I haven't heard anything about who got the contract. Veolia is the main competitor. I called Southwark council to find out who they give out or shortlist, but don't get answer. But waste industry is expanding for sure. You see, the stock was trading at >350, then suddenly dropped to the level, which I thought would never be witnessed again. I think, we have to wait a bit for the annual result. Then we'll see more clearly about future direction. Again good luck to you all guys. | ![]() watwungyi
05/3/2007 15:09 | Topped up too today. this is a defensive stock. Unaffected by anything as waste has to be cleared ! | beaudelaire
05/3/2007 12:36 | I also think it's a buying opportunity, bought some more below 310, if the markets stabilize or bounce back up, this should fly back up in my opinion. | prankster2
05/3/2007 12:32 | glad to see you two top executives here this morning, any opinion why Biffa is marked down far mor than ftse, I thought you both said this was a safe stock to be in, especially i would have thought at times like this, I mean its almost a utility. | ![]() theband

04/3/2007 17:22 | I wouldn't touch interlink (ITF) with yours. Talk about turning money into waste. I would invest in FIF or ZTR if you want exposure to the food industry but BIFF will clean up anyway | ![]() silverfern
01/3/2007 17:37 | Cheers wat - The resilience of this stock is amazing. Good luck. | beaudelaire
01/3/2007 14:28 | Hay Beau, There are also two stocks in Aim worth watching. BLH and ITF, both are food producer. The first one is expected to break even this year. And ITF shares drop from 700 to 160 and directors picked up hundred of thousand pound each. | ![]() watwungyi
01/3/2007 14:24 | Thanks, beau. I'll have a look. I think it would be good to have some cash reserve. | ![]() watwungyi
01/3/2007 13:53 | London afternoon: Footsie plunges again LONDON (ShareCast) - London's early rally has given way to more hefty losses as US futures have turned down sharply and sellers are targeting the miners again. Higher metal prices gave Xstrata , Anglo American and BHP Billiton a boost early on, but now all are showing losses on concerns about the situation in China. | powerbook
